Angel Di Maria | Performances | Wife: "He only joined United for money. The food was disgusting. The women look like porcelain"

Mata could but di María does. That's quite a big difference. Di María's occasionally a mindnumbingly stupid player and often a bit of a wimp, but he always looked for the killer ball and often pulled it off.

To be fair he plays the percentages a lot more than Mata does, which is why I don't think LVG liked him. He gambled too much.

Which makes you wonder why was ADM bought in the first place. I mean a player changing his game completely was always going to be tough.

It was probably Woody. I think LVG probably thought he could change him, however. Perhaps turn him into a Robben type winger. I don't think Di Maria is that smart though. Like you say, you just have to let him play his game.

Let's not rewrite history, guys. Di Maria is no longer at United because he never wanted to be at United in the first place.

Yeah. He's brilliant, but we'd never have got form out of him because he never wanted to be in Manchester

Not sure if you're taking the piss or? You do have a point somewhere but Depay is a laughable/poor example for that.

Joke obviously. That's what people were saying in the summer anyway while the ADM saga was ongoing and Depay had signed. Depay's pathetic work ethics, lack of determination and his shitty attitude is a sackable offence imo.

ADM isn't that great, y'all. Good player on his day but he's playing in an easy league. Like I said in the matchday thread, he's been living off his last season in Madrid ever since. Even then he wasn't that good.

I didn't think he was that good today(the pass to Cavani was great tbf).

That said, we need a player like him. Selling him wasn't a mistake. He didn't want to be here.

He's class, even in an average performance like today he can make the difference with one action.

I think he's overrated, he's unplayable in about 1 in every 20 games he's not anywhere near Sanchez's level who was half the price.

His vision and (risky)passing is fantastic. He can be frustrating with the simple Things though and he is not that good a dribbler.

I think he's a very good player with world class attributes. I don't think he was the player United needed at that moment in time. if you had signed him at the level he is now say in the last season you won the league I think his time at OT would have been a lot different. For him to come in and be the star player with very hardly anyone else on top of their game was just too much for him. Think he was out of his depth in the role he was asked to play in all honestly.

Yeah... The Champions League. We could be in that easy league too if.we kept players like him over our incompetent manager.

The level of fawning over him here is nauseating given how open he's been about his contempt for the club. He admitted he had no intention of joining United in the first place and was practically forced into the move and his performances reflected that so this idea that Van Gaal hounded him out is ridiculous.

It is really incredible that many here were completely fine that we insisted on playing the likes of Young ahead of him because he was in poor form only to complain every time when creative players fail at Manchester United. Always the same shit with players with flair who played for us in recent years. Our fans would rather watch Young putting 15 average crosses than di Maria creating two or three clear goalscoring chances because he will misplace few more passes than Young.

When you think about it, it's completely understandable from their perspective when those kind of player turn us down for some other club.

So are Zenit.

ADM playing for us didn't look like a player who would keep us in the CL. And I don't think PSG had issues qualifying for the group stage/knockout rounds before he arrived.

Didn't look anything special tonight, nice assist though.

People act like getting rid of him was a mistake. He wanted to leave. There was no decision to make. Also, he was shit for us and acted liked a child.

Flair doesn't excuse a lackadaisal, half-arsed approach to the game. I'm glad players like him and Hazard aren't here at the club.

 at some of the comments in a poor game for him where he still had an assist for the winner

Thats what top players do

I genuinely thought he had a good game. Am I the only one? Poor is really harsh.

Poor is harsh definitely but his performance today is far removed from a stick that can be used to beat us over the head with.

No arguments there.

I think you were right to sell him, his head wasn't in Manchester. His form after that is irrelevant because, as I see it, he'd have never regained form if he stayed.

He was hit and miss today, as so often. He's the sort of player that can make a difference even when he's not playing well, but how consistent is he over a season? Genuine question. I recall reading a while back that PSG fans were frustrated with him so it doesn't seem all that different from his time with us. Never really followed him at Madrid, except for the occasional big game. Good player to have but at his transfer fee you'd expect a bit more consistency.

Yep. Comments like 'sold Di Maria, bought Depay' aren't really fair because as you said not only did he not want to play for us, there's no guarantee he would have improved with us anyway and a second bad year would have dropped his valuation significantly. We did the only thing we could and still got £45M in the process.

He took a bit of time to adapt to our system but since November he's probably our best performer in attack. He's been voted L1 player of the month in december and almost again in january (deserved it).

It wasn't just his poor form it was more his visibly poor attitude on the pitch that made me want him gone.

He was shite here and didn't want to play for us. We were right to feck him off. Was pretty good yesterday, though. Had quite a lot of freedom, along with Moura on the wings.

He was shite because of van Gaal though. And it was fine at first until van Gaal started restricting him too much

He was alright I thought - started well but became a bit wasteful

I was speaking more relatively anyway as he's been in blistering form recently according to reports

He'd obviously walk into our team on the right though God knows what Van Gaal would do with him - probably RB

We restricted him because he was playing in midfield. In the games he played in wing, he had no restrictions. I don't see how restrictions were the reason he was overhitting crosses and diving around. He has himself to blame for that.

He was okay yesterday, but he showed nothing that would make you think United made a mistake by selling him.

He could be better than Robben, if only he'd use his brain a bit more. He didn't need to change, he needs to develop into an adult player. Decision making on the pitch and consistency it was makes great talents into great players. He's an exceptionally great talent, but at 28 still far away from beeing a great player. He's annoying me because I love what he could have been.

According to some reports he was in blistering form yesterday. A few flashes of brilliance tend to make it into reports more than 90 minutes of poor decision making and failed dribbles.

He wasn't great yesterday but he has actually been in brilliant form over the past few months.

Thats an easy excuse. Van Gaal obviously didnt help, but Di Maria got dropped because Mata and Young were doing very well on the wings. When he did get his chance, he failed to take it.
