James Wilson | On Loan to Brighton and Hove Albion

Brighton fans will miss him next season. Although premier league football will soften the blow.
Not sure about them missing him. Due to his recurring injuries throughout his spell with them, my Brighton supporting mate said he was ready to send him back to United:D The fans like him, but are a bit wary about his propensity to succomb to niggling injuries..

one of the biggest reasons why he will not make it here, hopefully I'm wrong but if he was as big talent as we all think about him and stayed injury free he would have already made name for himself. By the time he comes back and is ready he will face extreme competition. There is also a chance that we don't hire that clown but I still cant see us not buying another big name striker next summer, let alone Rashford who looks much fitter than Wilson whenever I saw him play for A team. Wilson looked always terrible in terms of stamina for us but we of course haven't seen him being given decent run of games as he was recovering from injuries all the time or simply wasn't convincing.

Don't think he's really been right since he was ill around Christmas. Brighton up to second and he could yet have a big say in their getting automatic promotion as, on his game, he's as good as anything in the Championship.

Talisman for Brighton seems to be Beram Kayal. They've not won this season when he hasn't played.

Don't understand why he went on load in the first place. We had 2 strikers and I thought welbeck was sold to make way for him to have more playing time, what happened?

He played 19 times under Van Gaal and looked off the pace of the Premier League, a Championship loan was the right move for him. I think Van Gaal was told he was this wonderkid who could replace Welbeck but it turned out he isn't ready.

Willo subbed on after 43 minute, game is on tv.

Nice cross that Knckaert should have scored from but was mostly quiet. Was he supposed to be on the wing?

starting today if anybody wants to watch.

edit: it looks like there isnt stream for this one, fecking stream side they had the game on the list with 2 links

won the penalty which Hemed scored, 1:0 currently.

Cmon Brighton, cmon Willo.
A Brighton promotion and another year at the club would do really well for next year I think - I assume a new striker, Rooney and then Rashford will be our options going into it, so there'd be no point at all in having Wilson playing in the U21s when it's clear he's above that level.

Pretty concerning that he couldn't score in a 5-0 win. At least he started and contributed though.

Could have had a goal and an assist and won the penalty. You can say the penalty was a bit soft but the defender has two hands on him and does a full out push, twat even tries to come back and push Wilson again after the penalty. Other twat even pushed the ref.

Saw some of this game. He looked very sharp on a personal level. I know it is the championship but I think he is a very talented player and will present a conundrum next season when he returns from loan. He'd be the one leading the line at the moment and not Rashford if he wasn't loaned out for absolutely zero reason.

He has a lot to prove.

Yep. Delighted that Rashford has taken the opportunity but, really, it should be Wilson on the big stage.

Rashford suits LVG's system better than Wilson though right now.

He is more suited to playing with someone upfront as of now compared to leading the line alone.

He was loaned out because he wasn't up to the PL level and needed the experience.

Im just not seeing it with him at the moment, he's looking like the Championship is his level. To be a striker in a 5-0 drubbing and not manage a goal or an open play assist is worrying.

At 1:00 in that video he was close to scoring, and at 1:38 in the video he should have got an assist, besides, he won the pen for the first goal.

Also he was the youngest brighton player out there, being at least 4 years younger than the second youngest today.

Also, he has not been fully fit for a big part of the loan period. He is still only 20 remember.

No, no, no. You are doing it all wrong. You have to write off players based on games that you don't watch.

Based on what? Rashford is playing right now because he has taken the chances that were given to him. Wilson wasn't able to, even if his playing time was limited with the first team. Rashford has earned his big stage, Wilson has yet to, so no, it shouldn't be Wilson out there.

I liked what I saw. I'd be perfectly happy with Rashford and Wilson sharing one position in the team next season. That way neither of them would be expected to play 40+ games or score 20 goals. Both could get plenty of playing time and hopefully contribute a lot. Both have extreme pace and fairly similar strengths and weaknesses, so their team-mates wouldn't have to adjust too much whenever we switched from one to the other.

You have to take your chances. He was poor in the 1st team and he's not really set the world alight at Brighton. He started well there but you look at what he's up against in players like Rashford if he wants to come back and get another chance here. He has a lot of work to do.

I never said he didn't.

He was loaned because Martial and Rooney were fit at that point and he wasn't going to get any game time because Van Gaal doesn't do rotation or man management. The loan was probably the right thing to do whoever pushed for it, but the point still stands.

Why? Rashford has shown for the United first team far more than Wilson ever did. He is playing better than Wilson did for us, and so, fair play to him.

Wilson has had plenty of opportunities at United (compared to Rashford) and has not taken them. He's now had a mediocre spell in the level below and, again, not done enough. Rashford is a class above him.

Wilson never showed anything when he played for us apart from his debut against a Hull. Rashford did what a young player is supposed to do when given the chance, and that's take it. Rashford is already streets ahead of Wilson, who I think at best will be a decent PL striker for a midtable club, and that might not even happen. After all guys like Sylvain Ebanks-Blake and Frazier Campbell did better in the Championship than Wilson have done, and neither had the level for the PL.

He's been injured and sick. If he can get a proper run in the team now at the end of the season, we'll have a basis to assess him. All hope is not lost, but he will have to make a solid impact at Championship level.

Didnt he score 2 in that game vs Hull? Did he then go on to start the next 10-15 games for us? Because thats what happened to Rashford. He haa started about a dozen games in a row simply cos we had nothing else. The Rooney injury has a lot more to do with Rashford success than him "taking his chances".

Rashford got more playing time, but Wilson could still have shown some more when he actually got to play which he didn't, he looked like the typical young lad who's out of his depth with a lack of physic. Compare Wilson to Martial or Rashford and it's clear, that he's probably not up for it.
