Zinedine Zidane | Resigns

Do you expect him to be doing that the whole season with Modric and Kroos next to him? He clearly showed he's capable of it. So yes, he has a good range of passing.

There's nothing in that video that Fernando doesn't show over a season, an he's crap on the ball. Even Real Madrid fans won't argue that Casemiro is good on the ball.

If they lose today, be rest assured Perez will do the daft thing and sack him. Let the guy build a team.

According to the Spanish press, Unai Emery has already been lined up to replace Zidane. Perez's first choice was Mourinho, however Mourinho decided to hold out for United.

Even if Zidane does win the European Cup tonight it will be Ancelotti all over again: A sacking staved off by a European Cup final win. As soon as Perez has an excuse he will pull the trigger. That's just how he is.

Well, I think Casemiro is a more clever defender than Fernando so we'll have to agree to disagree about that. And once again, that video clearly shows Casemiro has a good range of passing and whether Fernando also does that is irrelevant to Casemiro's passing range which you claimed is pretty much nonexistent.

He's done better than i expected. He is naturally very respected because of his name, seems to have a calming influence on the team and is non-confrontational. Early days still.

His subs in this game have been Van Gaal-esq. it's a big risk if it goes to extra time.

Champions League 15/16 winner
Leave now Zizou. It doesn't get better than this. Nobody will remember your Kroos sub if you do.

Kroos sub was weird.

That said, interesting decision to have Real play off the counter more. Recall Enrique doing similar in Barca's 2nd leg vs Atletico in the Copa Del Rey last season.

Bought himself another six months or so. You never know with Real.

Very pleased for Zidane! It's just sad that, statistically, he'll be gone in two years or so.

Zidane's both clever and charismatic. He's quite like Guardiola in this respect. Combined with his legendary status as a player, that helps a lot. Can see him having a great career as a manager.

Next season if RM lose 2 games in a row,he is gone, thats how they roll

To be fair most people here laugh when he was appointed manager. Now he has won the CL and just loss out by small margin in the league, giving a good fight all the way to the end, so fair play to him.

Am I hallucinating the long-range passes in this video?

He's also clearly better than Fernando who's just a donkey IMO.

You're not. Casemiro has a sweet long pass. That's the first thing that you notice watching him play, because it's not something you would expect from a DM destroyer.

Bob the expert over here calls him donkey, we call him secret ingredient on our board.

Had no more substitutions left until the 75th minute and it's not as if Real played convincing football either. The CL win really changes the perception in his favor.

How many men can take a team halfway through a season and do what he did? Not many. Yes, he had plenty of luck on his side, an absolutely loaded squad and an easy draw, but you still have to go out and win the games and outscore your opposition. Kudos to him. He'll be gone within 2 years because Florentino Perez is an imbecile, but then he'll be a very decent manager for someone else (PSG, Juve, French national team). I think he's the kind of manager who will do very well provided he has a very good squad (like del Bosque in that regard).

His record is pretty spectacular. Like 23 wins, 1 draw and 3 losses right?

I think he only lost the one game against Atletico in La Liga and away to Wolfsburg. I might be wrong though.

What i like about him is that he had the stones you tell Florentino "your buys are not working". He benched James, put in Casemiro and brought a hard worker like Lucas into the fold. He also benched Varane when it was clear that Pepe was playing better than him (Pepe horrible person and sportsman, great defender though).

I hope he retains authority to do his deals and purchases. Word in Spain is that he doesn't want the club to buy de Gea.

Yep. The jury is still out.

No, Di Matteo wasn't even remotely as successful in the league as Zidane. Actually, since Zidane has taken over Madrid, they've had the best results overall, both domestically and in Europe. He won more points in the league than Barca (beating them at their ground) and Atleti and won the CL. By contrast, Di Mateo was shit in the league and incredibly lucky in the CL, the jammiest CL win ever.

Did I say Di Matteo was as successful as Zidane? I just said the jury was still out and Zidane was lucky. Easy route to the final and a jammy win last night (offside goal allowed, penalty missed by Atletico and a penalty shoot-out win).

I agree. He deserves credit for some things he's done this season but last night I think he made a few wrong decisions and was lucky not to pay for them.

It's a near perfect first half season for him, but that doesn't make him a great manager yet. Next year he won't get away with playing so cautiously with this Madrid side, surely?

It's actually the first time a French manager wins the European Cup/CL.
First time in CL but second after Helenio Herrera.

6 months of coaching and already CL champion is very impressive!

Winning the European Cup/CL once have been done by average managers before, so it's hard to tell what Zidane is, only time will tell.
