Funny, I'd have thought the "dizzying heights" of 5th on two occasions for a team like Everton is an absolutely fantastic achievement. Obviously it isn't and it's worthy of mockery so carry on.

He actually moved to Everton a season earlier than you say and saved them from relegation. To go from that to the "dizzying heights" of 5th on numerous occasions is some turnaround.

No he didn't - he moved there towards the end of the 2001/02 season, when they were 15th/16th and lingering dangerously close to the drop. He then managed to show significant improvement the following season and mostly kept that up. I think his spell there is a tad overrated, but the idea that he came into a 7th placed club right off the bat and never improved them is nonsensical.

He moved there in March 2002... granted, they stayed up.
So are we saying that's an achievement? Big Sam-esque that.

Why does 5th have to be Everton's mecca? Leicester won the whole thing last season.... I'd say relegation battle to champions in a season is "some turnaround"... but Everton dare not dream of silverware after a decade of planning, developing and investment?!

You sound like a moron. So just because liecester won the league every team of similar calibre that didn't "failed" ?

If you are going to downplay Moyes' achievement at Everton you obviously have no understand of football or your hate for him during his time here has left you deluded.

For me his big failure was that, despite everyone seemingly having everything good to say about him and little bad, during his time at Everton, several 'bigger' jobs came along and he was never considered for any of them. When you think how many time Spurs came up and not once was he in the frame for it, just goes to show that either he has no ambition or he is not considered someone who is capable of stepping up a level.

Goodness only knows how he ended up at United, but his inability to step up was amply demonstrated and turns out Spurs dodged a bullet.
 
We should offer Fellaini to him for £20m now. We should be able to get about £30m for him on transfer deadline day that way.

I wouldn't mind both staying, but fleecing moyes would make up for it.

And I am not even annoyed at the job he did when he was with us, he was promoted way beyond his ability, that is down to our lot who gave him the job. Its the utter shite he has come out with afterwards and the sheer inability to take any responsibility for the poor performances that have annoyed me enough that i want to see the fecker fail, and fail hard.

Moyes owes us a monster bid for Fellaini since we had to overpay severely due to his dithering.

Why would you hate him for that? Has LVG said it was all his fault? Has any manager said it's their fault? Have the United players said it's their fault? I mean has the board admitted that they were wrong for appointing him?

This is football. You can't just say "yeah I ballsed it up" all the time. Moyes wanted to maintain a good image after the United debacle and to be honest some of it was the players fault even though Manchester United is not his level and the 7th place finish was just unnacceptable.

I just don't understand why people hate on Moyes so much. He came, he tried, he failed and he's left. Move on.
 
In five of six seasons before he took over at Everton they got 43 points or less, relegation candidates every time. That's the equivalent of somebody like Sunderland now.coincidentally. If he took this Sunderland team to consistent top 7-8 including 4th and 5th amongst it it would be seen as an incredible job. In fact if some up and coming manager did he'd likely be lauded. That's what he did at Everton. I can't stand the guy, but many of you are letting feelings towards him post United blur an unarguable success at Everton.
 
Really don't understand the Moyes hate here. Yes, he did a terrible job with us but come on , it as 3 years ago - move on guys . Bit small time on our Side to still carry that hate.
 
Moyes did take Sunderland to a league cup final in 2014, so he's got history with the club.
 
I think Mou is going to want to keep Fellaini, But bid in excess of 20m will be hard to turn down. Januzaj needs games, and should be loaned, and have no doubt he will get them under Moyes.

Shame he not gone back to Everton, as he could have tempted Mata as well.

And aye, keeping them up and then going on to 5th place finishes is a fantastic achievement. Not quite Leicester, though, correct.

He was unbelievably shite and completely out of his depth but shit happens. I don't really give a feck about him and downplaying his previous achievements seems quite petty.
 
Moyes will have Sunderland aspiring to be like Newcastle in no time, and they'll be relegated.

It's because people grew up knowing only success throughout the Ferguson era. First wee bit of failure and the toys are out of the pram. Happens at every club tbf.

He could have said nothing. He could have given the players some of the credit for our good performances during the season and sometimes taken a little blame himself when things went poorly. I think he was out of his depth very clearly and it showed to the players so he never had their respect. He got back at them by having a public go at them and snuggling up to the press. He continued in the same way after he was let go, criticizing the board, saying he didn't get enough time, etc etc.

I would have been willing to move on and forget Moyes if he had been willing to do the same after the season finished. Instead he tried to smear the image of the club to save his own career.

Give me a few examples of where he blamed the players in a way no other manager does? And don't give me the ridiculous "he said 'I got us so far' and not we!"

Give me an example of him clearly saying that he wasn't at fault and it was the players (and again, in a way no other manager does).

Yes he was absolute shite but his shiteness is not commensurate to the level of hatred that some fans have for him. That irrational hatred does not or will not allow them to cut him any slack or give him any credit...even though LVG was a bigger fraud and has got away with it because we won the FA Cup and he occasionally entertained in his pressers and post match interviews.

Will be interesting to see how his season pans out though.

Van Gaal was past his best and ultimately failed to live up to expectations, but he wasn't a fraud far from it. A fraud wouldn't have won Leagues, Cups and European trophies in 4 different countries with 5 different clubs.

But more importantly this is a thread about Moyes so maybe we should keep the discussion about him.
