Defending is harder when you don't have Barzagli/Bonucci and Chiellini, who would have thought.
I thought he was excellent in the 14/15 season, but maybe it was just strong defenses in front of him that made him look so good there and at Atletico. Hasn't played well without an underperforming defence in front of him unlike De Gea.Agreed.

Sure they are shit but Jesus, somebody implied that Conte sucks and that Moyes got better reputation because Conte got the titles only in Serie A.

They are very lucky to have 10 points. Not much of a threat for top 4. That will be between City, Spurs, Liverpool, Arsenal and United.

Pogba is incredibly talented and can do stuff Kante can only dream of, but I think you're on to something here.

I'm sure Kostur is referring just to this season. I do genuinely think some of the criticism Kante is getting now is at least in some part due to the (stupid) accusations that United should have bought Kante and not Pogba.

Hazard isn't as good as he was in 2014-2015. Matic/Fabregas have declined a lot. Both passengers. Costa is very good, but he's hit and miss with his temperament and yellow cards. They lack creative players. Oscar hasn't even improved since he joined. Pedro is pretty poor. Declined a lot recently. Willian doesn't contribute much with goals. And their transfer dealings have been poor the past 2 seasons. They have to rebuild. And they're very rigid in attack. No clear system in place. Rely on individual magic vs team play.
Their defense is also very bad. Cahill/Ivanovic need to replaced ASAP. And Azpilicueta, though he's good defensively isn't great bombing forward to link up with Hazard. They need a new LB/RB depending on where Azpi will play. Courtois has been poor for his standard too. Conte's got a lot of work to do.
I picked them to finish 3rd, but I overestimated them greatly. I don't think they'll finish top 4 again.
Even based on this Season i think Pogba has been better. What exactly has Kante done? He runs around, wins balls then does nothing. Remember Cleverly
Sounds like a lot of problems. They started brightly but it seems it was short lived.
They play different roles so it's hard to compare, and I think Pogba has been better, but discounting today's game I don't think it's been by a large margin or anything.
They have problems in midfield imo. Their only creative midfielder is an abomination defensively but he's at his best in deep positions. What kind of conundrum is that?

How annoying must it be to see De Bruyne tearing it up for City. Doubt Mata could do worse than what Oscar is serving up either.
Quite a concern, they've spent almost 90 million on three 'defensive' players and they appear to be equally as bad at defending this year as last. Not sure a back three will work either, it's quite a difference going from Barzagli, Chiellini, Bonucci to Luiz, Cahill and Ivanovic (who i think has some sort of Rooney stranglehold at the Bridge) only explanation for him always playing.
It would however allow them to play Batshauyi and Costa who could be a nightmare pair to defend against and give Hazard a more free role without having to worry about his total lack of defensive effort.

Would like to hear from resident Chelsea fans on here about Luiz and Matic interchanging positions. Could it possibly bring a bit more stability ? Matic being reasonably good on the ball and not as reckless as Luiz.
Also, it allows Luiz the freedom to roam around like he does, and he could be a bit more forward thinking and creative than Matic in the CM , won't it ?

There have been times where Blind has been really exposed for not being a natural CB, I'm sure probably Carrick as well.
I don't think Matic is the answer to their CB problems and David Luiz was just an awful and desperate buy. I do agree that if they are going to play Luiz that it needs to be in front of the CB's as he does have ability on the ball.
I wasn't talking up Matic as a solution to all their defensive woes, just making an observation that Matic would be less prone to brain farts or foiling offside traps like Luiz does, and maybe it would solidify both the positions.
Didn't want to sidetrack from the discussion ( hence didnt start with this), but since you mentioned I don't think there has been too many cases of Blind fecking it up or being exposed like you said. He makes up for his physicality with an intelligent footballing brain, reads the game so well and positions himself correctly thus averting danger. Although his set piece defending could be a bit of worry at times. But overall he's been surprisingly good at the back.
