Rothwell’s a former United lad right?
Yes that’s correct. He’s a Manchester lad, spent his entire youth career at United going on loan a couple of times, then left for Oxford and spent a couple of seasons there before we signed him last summer.
He is an exciting talent, with excellent speed and dribbling ability, and he ran the show yesterday. He has been in and out of our team this season, but hopefully will start regularly until the end of the season. We just need to link up with him better, as often he has spent a lot of time running from side to side chasing the ball.
You have had a good season overall, imo. Thought you would have fought not to get relegated at the start of the season. If you had a good summer you could fight for the playoffs next season.
I agree overall it has been a positive season, and I’m happy with the job Mowbray has done. Under his watch many disillusioned fans have reconnected with the club and players. And we do have a pretty strong youth academy, especially given how many clubs there are in the North West competing for the same players.
The gulf between the Championship and League One has increased in recent years, highlighted by Wigan, ourselves and Rotherham all winning instant promotion last season, and the financial power of many of the teams in the division including Middlesbrough and Derby who are both outside the top 6. It’s a very tough and manic division.
I guess when a team has an excellent first half and a bit of the season, and then falls away and struggles during the rest of the season, fans get more frustrated and think about what could have been achieved, than if it happened the other way around.
