Player Awards 2019 | Luke Shaw wins

It's nothing to do with Woodward. It's the players' choice. The Reserve and Youth team player awards are given by the coaches.

Chong has been good while Greenwood has been a standout. Don't know how you can argue with those choices.

It's getting stupid on here to put the blame on Woody for everything

It's stupid to moan about awards. if teams that achieved something only celebrate the awards then usually 18 clubs in PL will cancel their awards. This is also event to raise funds for charity.

It's hilarious to see people losing their senses and start moan about everything.

So you forget the period from 2015 to 2017 when he was considered one of the best right backs in the league?
No because he really wasn’t. That was some rubbish that was made up and everyone latched on to it because he never was such a thing. Jose claiming he was the best RB in the world is the biggest lie to probably ever come out of his mouth.

fecking unbelievable! or maybe not for this place right now. It's become a cess pit of moans about every little thing. It'll be the office secretaries next;not good enough, their computing skills are way behind City and Liverpool's

This just shows the state of this club. He has been average at best. He looked half fit all season and wouldnt pass the main fullback at any of our rival teams. This should have been Lindelöf or even Pogba.

Gary Neville had this 'lie' to tell:

“He’s been absolutely outstanding for the last 18 months, two years. I had doubts as to whether it could last in the long term with him, I thought it was more of a stop-gap until they signed a right-back. But he’s the real thing.”

“United don’t need to sign a right-back,” Neville said on Sunday after Valencia had opened the scoring in United’s 4-0 win over Everton.

“To think they signed Matteo Darmian as the right-back, Valencia is head and shoulders above him. He is a top right-back now. He’s strong, quick, supports the attack, and doesn’t make any mistakes.”

I already know you'll discredit Herrera's praise since he's a teammate, but that was a year before Mourinho said the same thing. You obviously don't rate him but big names in the game thought otherwise at the time

Cancel it, none of them have consistently performed like Manchester United players. Send them a message how can they be get an award for much of the dross they have served up this season?
Keep the women's, youth and perhaps goal of the season award but the main one shouldn't be awarded this season. Might actually send out a message that standards are too low. Obviously if the performance when Ole first came in had continued, fine go ahead with it but not when we've just drawn to Huddersfield to round off a poor run of results. I expect sponsorship etc is one of the reasons it hasn't been cancelled and of course who has the guts to cancel it.
But we wont we will carry on as normal!

The womens team did. Not sure if anyone else pointed this out to you.

To sound all precious and pompous: I think it’s a pretty unnecessary sign of disrespect to use the thread of Luke Shaw’s recognition by players and fans alike, to piss on him in the least apt way possible.

The fact that the players voted for him, leaves it in no doubt that he has worked very hard this season, so to drag up the old ‘lazy’ story at this occasion is to me more lazy than vintage Luke Shaw.

The fact that everyone’s disappointed with everyone and everything at the moment is evident enough, but for one of the least expected to to well this season to be voted the best of a disappointing bunch, really shows that he has done on the whole good work out of improving for this season. No one is comparing him to previous winners, least of all himself, so to make a joke on his expense because fifteen other players and Woodward should have done better is not deserved IMO. Neither is it his fault if Woody/Mourinho didn’t buy a new LB or if poster X, Y and Z overrated him on a forum previously.

The fact that the two last games were his two worst games all season really has no bearing on it either (as someone else stated). It’s a view across the whole of the season, and players and fans have found Luke the most worthy of some positive regard despite our current situation.

He was not my choice for player of the season, but he’s taken criticism on board and obviously worked hard with both
on both his fitness and his game. I think he deserves credit for that, not standing ovation, but not piss-taking either. Lifting the bar is up to others.

Sorry for the rant, which is triggered as much by other posts here and the tendency these days to indulge depression and darkmindedness into every occasion, as it is by the OP.

Honestly i would have cancelled it for this year as its a hell of a race to the bottom at this point. As mata said fans deserves better

Yes, that’s certainly a possible opinion. Still makes it unnecessary to take out on Luke Shaw on this occasion.

That's because I think that among this tripe he wasn't even among the best players. His 'performances' at Huddersfield and Shitty costed us any chances of top 4

Also I find his physical shape as an embarrassment.

Good post

A decent defensive left back who can't attack, our player of the year, it sums up our season.

But it wasn't so get over it.

Luke deserved it. Least of our problems. Was good for major part of the season. Technically good, great touch, fast, strong and has room for further improvement. Needs work on his stamina and reduce body fat percentage, still looked chubby.

Would look much better in club with proper attacking system and clear philosophy. Playing with immovable Martial doesn't help either.

I think the award is more about 'the back story' and how he's come back from that horrendous injury to be playing regularly again than anything to do with his football ability. I think he's bang average and there are 5/6 left backs in lesser teams outside of the top 6 I'd take over him right now.....

Four English teams in European finals, City likely to win the League, won one cup and likely another and Ole thinks our lads have done brilliant.

It's always an easy fallback to give it to a steady fullback. He's been incredibly disappointing for me. The performances he was giving up to his leg break are what I was hoping he would get back to. But he's been incredibly average. Offers nothing in attack and is decent defensively but not outstanding and out of shape.

Lindelof for me with Pogba the only other mention. How poor has this season actually been.

I see many saying Lindeloff and Pogba, but according to match day rankings, Luke Shaw has been The Cafs overall winner this year.

6.3 Luke Shaw 39 matches
6.2 Ander Herrera 25 matches
6.1 David de Gea 45 matches
6.1 Victor Lindelof 38 matches
6.0 Sergio Romero 6 matches
5.9 Paul Pogba 45 matches
5.7 Chris Smalling 33 matches
5.6 Diogo Dalot 20 matches

Shaw has had some high highs and low lows, Lindelöf on the other hand had been far more consistent no matter the manager or time of the season. Both of them stayed fit this year, which is probably the best part of it.

We should sign a shittier player and replace our POTY with him next season. Just to show the team how shit they are.

Oh, wait, we already did that with Herrera.

This makes no sense. We have 1(ONE) world class player at the club, and instead of giving him some recognition (especially now that Real Madrid are desperate to sign him) we give awards to overweight and completely average fullback who isn't even top 3 LB in the league? What a joke! At this point, no one should blame Paul Pogba for considering his options.

Congrats to Shaw, he definitely deserved the awards. My own highest rated player this season and the highest rated on the redcafe ratings. Hopefully this recognition spurs him on to greater heights next season.

It has to be said though (and I know a lot of people have already said it) but the competition for our best player this year was the lowest in a long time.

Shaw's redcafe rating for the season is 6.3. This forum has been doing ratings since the 13/14 season and 6.3 would not even have made the top 3 in any previous year. Granted De Gea has had some had incredible seasons but for our current 'best player' to not even be top 3 in any previous year shows how dissatisfied the fans are with the players right now.

These awards also keep up the pattern that in every single post-Ferguson season the POTY and the PPOTY has gone to a defensive player. De Gea, Smalling, Herrera (the season he played as a DM) and now Shaw.

Nice one Shaw, I'd say he has had a good season personally and he seems to have come through his terrible injury. He's definitely one who will benefit from playing with the better players and new, positive coaching regime that we're hoping to see at United in the near future.

I see that guy is still at Mutv. Doesn't he have any career goals? Perhaps it's a nice job to have though.

Matic:

“It’s difficult to say because the season wasn’t great for us. I think David De Gea has again had some great games and great saves during the season and, if I had to choose one, it’s him. Every keeper can make mistakes during the season and the problem is people always remember the last game when that happened. We cannot forget how many points he has saved us this season. He’s an amazing goalkeeper, top class, one of the best in the world.”

Is he serious? He's been abysmal most of the season, had to chuckle at that .

We conceded 50+ goals in the league itself. Judging by that statistic, neither of the back 5 should have won the POTY. My choice would have been Pogba since he's our top scorer and more so from midfield.

So we absolve the midfield of any blame for our shitty defensive record?
