I liked the final season a lot. Preferred it to season 7 (which I enjoyed anyway) but not to any other season. That was enough for me. Reached all the conclusions a little quicker than I expected, and a little too quickly for their full emotional weight to be felt, but heck I was thoroughly entertained and I still got emotional. I'm not sure it ever could have ended in a way that satisfied everybody, or even in a way that ticked all the boxes I wanted it to. I think it simply grew so large in both scale and popularity that it almost broke the people involved, so fair play to them for pulling off such an unexpected last stretch that still made sense in relation to the rest of the story.
The last two seasons were a step down from the first six, but not by much. The first six seasons batted at a 9.5/10 average, the last two seasons were more of an 8/10. That's still great overall. It's a shame the sixth book wasn't published by the time the show caught up - that way we could have had an ending without all the questions about what's going to happen, what is and isn't in GRRM's plans, etc. In the end I think it affected how I felt about the fan community, which I used to love being part of. In the end I just grew tired of talking about the show, of listening to people talk about it, because for years now it's just been increasing negativity from people who kept saying they'd "given up" on the show but carried on hate-watching.
If the books ever finish (which I honestly doubt they will) I imagine we'll get an animated adaptation that'll stick closer to the books, and with the spin-off show coming I have a feeling this is more of a beginning for the franchise than an end. This is such a massive universe that any stories could conceivably be written into it. Hell, they could make an entire show based on events in Ulthos that we've never seen. Can't imagine future shows in this world will command quite the same size of audience, but they'll have a cult following - I love this world and I can't wait for new content from it, even if the characters aren't the same.

Huh. All I said was that I liked the last season even though it wasn't quite as good as the first six and that we might get another adaptation in the future if the books ever get completed. I don't really know what's borrowed about any of that. Judging by the general reaction to the final season I'd my thoughts on it were the opposite of borrowed.

I can't be the only one that loved Jaqen the horse and figured the end of Arya's arc would involve the god that made her!
I'm most likely forgetting something as I wasn't particularly obsessive with details in this show but it felt like the whole faceless thing was massively under utilised in the end.
Having Jaqen feature in some way or Arya wearing another face to kill Cersei (and have someone else kill the NK) would have been more impactful imo.

Really feel as if the title of this thread should be “Our watch has ended” it’s bugged me for a few weeks now and I thought I could live with it but every time I see it I just want to rip out my eyes.
