Aside from just basic humanity, that's the most important reason why I desperately want him to survive and quickly get back to work. His massively enhanced empathy about this illness and the required response will inspire him to make better informed decisions, which will benefit every country in the world.
I'm of the opinion that he has handled this OK so far in UK. All criticising 'herd immunity' are missing the point: at the beginning of any process, there are a myriad of proposed strategies. Nothing wrong in properly exploring each before you come to a definitive outcome. I've also know the medical community was deeply divided on which strategy to take, hence why the international team at Imperial College London was formed: to provide a neutral and internationally acceptable recommendation. As soon as they issued that report, Government acted with amazing speed and conviction. Ditto: financial package was also rolled out at high speed. Self employed was a tricky accounting issue so required 2 days extra thought, but was also promptly solved. Current state of NHS is the outcome of the Cameron government.
Only decisions I think he could have improved was to insist on quarantine for returning citizens from overseas, and install army at time of shut down, but that was culturally unacceptable. Even now, I wish police were empowered to be much tougher on people flouting Government orders on physical movement.
Am very hopeful that should Boris survive, he will lead UK better out of this crisis, and he will personally become NHS's staunchest supporter within Government.
