James Milner is top 4 material.

He's got more than enough variety for a big club just not sure there's enough depth there.

Definitely worth signing him at the right price imo. Can either play on the left of our 4-4-2 or in attacking central role in 4-3-3.

You don't need pace to be a good winger as long as you have good delivery and technique.

Well he has played more of a attacking midfielder this season than winger.. So he is clearly a player that can be used in more than one position. To be fair, we could enjoy having some dangerous attacking midfielders too, Scholes and Giggs are great playmakers but they are not the attacking threat that Scholes used to be.

However I disagree a bit on the wingers does not need pace as long as they have delivery and technique, because wingers has a big job when they don't have the ball too, positioning themselves and stretching the opponents defense and the faster they get there, the more chaos they will cause on counter-attacks. They might not need it, but it is a hell of a advantage, the most important thing is that they are "correctly footed", meaning a left winger should be left-footed, because then they get that curve into the box, so they can deliver better - and it makes pace less important. We need a left winger, Milner is right footed and that would be a problem as I see it.

A little bit better than decent player. Milner comes across as the sort of a player most managers would adore to have in their squads, he appears to always have the appetite for the game no matter what the opposition or playing surface is like. He works hard, is a bit versatile, can shoot, can get past a defender or two on occasions, can deliver a decent ball in etc. The list goes on and on of his positives and can't really find any negatives.

He is a sound player but at United we have become accustomed to "Wow" players so I don't think he will find many takers here. He could be a good replacement for Ji Sung Park. Personally I reckon Charles N'zogbia is better than him and could do well at United but that's just my opinion.

He's like the John O'Shea of attacking players. Not a huge fan but would be a useful asset to any big club on versatility alone. I don't see why we'd want as we have plenty non world class options as it is but certainly he'd be good for Liverpool.

as a winger he is unlikely to have any 'wow' factor but as an attacking mid, he has enough pace, skill, ability to strike off either foot, determination, tenacity and vision and accuracy to be a 'wow' enough player to make it for any big side in the premiership.

I would say that he and Ji Sung Park are of the same ilk. Milner has more of a goal threat though and i think he would be a good squad player at any of the top clubs.

Milner would solve a whole host of problems for us - he can fill in the voids that will be left by both Giggs and Scholes (I am not saying he is as good as either before anyone jumps on that) plus he also provides cover at left back.

It is still not entirely clear to me what his best position is but I am sure Fergie can work it out - he is just a good all round players in my opinion and would be a great addition to our squad.

So how much do we reckon he would cost us? I would be willing to pay upto £20m

I wouldn't say you would get him for any less than £20 and a couple of good performances at the world cup might send it higher. I would like to see him at Utd. Good skills no frills footballer.

Maybe. One thing is for sure, he wouldn't be out of place in a top 4 squad. Down the middle or out wide.

I'd be happy to sign Milner. Fergies best buys have always been unassuming players. We know they're good, but not usually sure they're United quality (Evra, Vidic, Carrick, VDS) but SAF is always the one to push them onto the next level. Milners a hardworking, versatile player. He won't be ready to start every game, but in a year or two he could be a great addition to our team.

He's impressed me a bit more recently but I still think he's like a "Liverpool type" signing. Someone who can do a job, maybe a good bench player but nothing more.

Anyone who wasn't sure VDS was 'United quality' is a bit of a tit though, to be fair.

Well "to be fair" VDS was with a mid table team for quite a few years, so how can you say that you knew he was bound to be a success with us?

By the way, does anyone remember O'Neill's habit last season of repeatedly talking up Ashley Young? He consistently said Young is one of the best players in the world.

I rate Milner but I do think O'Neill - in a perfectly laudable attempt to boost his players - is guilty of talking his players up in the press too much too soon.

He said Young was up there with Ronaldo and Messi yet he's just another average winger. If he really was up there with Ronaldo and Messi, England would be laughing.

The 'Young' comment was cringeworthy, average pile of shit.

eh?

Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill insists there was no bust-up with chairman-owner Randy Lerner over unfounded reports that England star James Milner was to be sold to Manchester United.

And, while there has been speculation over his own future, O'Neill is also adamant that Lerner is not set to quit the midlands club.

O'Neill said: "There was a story that I had fallen out with the chairman because of a supposedly imminent transfer of James Milner to Manchester United.

"James would be worthy of playing in a side like that. I wouldn't think for one minute that top clubs wouldn't be interested in James Milner.

"He has been splendid for us this season but there is not one ounce of truth in the story. It is ludicrous."

O'Neill has spent a net £80million on new players in his four years at Villa.

He believes those players have increased significantly in value should Lerner ever decide he wants to leave Villa.

But O'Neill is confident that is far from the case with Lerner who also owns NFL side Cleveland Browns.

He said: "Since I arrived here four years ago, I've invested £80 million of the chairman's money and if he wanted to sell some of those assets - which he has not intimated at all - he would get that money back, and with a bit of interest as well.

"If you wanted to let four or five of the top quality players leave this club, you would get your money back but that has not been Randy's notion and I think he is trying to think about improving Villa Park as well.

"I don't think he is ready to walk away or worry himself unduly about his investment at all because he knows it is there on the pitch. We have a number of top quality players at this club."

Bloody hell, if your dumb enough to believe the hype then we've practically ruined that club, star player to leave, manager resigns in protests, rich as feck owner 'walks away'
Its like pert destroying that interment forum all over again.

James Milner to Man City for €22 million plus Stephen Ireland....

Without doubt the most over-rated player in the history of the game.

Is this what we can expect from City every summer? It was Lescott last time around, and now Milner takes the champion's belt from Lescott.

milner is versatile , but they will have downing and young playing wide
ireland will replace milner directly.
a lot of money to improve the squad overall ..
city dont care about the money and had to ship out ireland

decent deal for both parties

What has happened to him? Excellent at Villa and interest from the bigger clubs, but he's been awful at city according to what I've read from their fans who seem to want him out after just 9 months..

Think he's been pretty decent actually, would still have him in my side over Silva every day of the week.

He's a decent player at what he does, but he's not getting games at City. Plays one, then bench or out of the squad for the next 5

Adam Johnson is another of a waste there

He hasn't been awful. He's done what was expected - good energy and gets about a lot, plus he can play in a lot of positions.

Decent player, very solid - nothing more, nothing less. Good player to have around when you've got a lot of tempremental foreigners.
