You're not listening very well as Sky's two correspondents in Cairo have said emphatically who the people on the streets are.
 
I just flipped to Fox News because CNN/MSNBC are talking about the blizzard and saw the lady talking about the camel/horse-riding pro-Mubarak guys riding through the streets. I was waiting for her to drop "camel jockies" but she didn't. Fox News weren't as racist as I expected them to be.

A lot of the people interviewed on US news seem to be American educated, in terms of their accents in English.
 
Most Egyptians speak English, and only older generations have a very thick accent.

If only Americans bothered to learn a new language... aside from Klingon.
 
I don't mean their Egyptian accent on their English. You can almost always tell where someone learned their English by whether they speak with a slight English, Australian, or American accent. All the ones I've heard have an American accent rather than the others.

Also, a good portion of Americans know Spanish to some extent, even if it's limited. It's the only really useful language other than English for most Americans.

The problem here is, in your mind, you have this incorrect caricature of Arabs speaking English. Most Arabs in the Middle East have American TV and watch sitcoms and movies. It is quite possible for them to have an accented speech similar to American accents. I speak with what people incorrectly call an American accent even though I learned english abroad and spent most of my life in North Africa and the Middle East.

Also, in this globalist economy and market, there really is no such thing as a useless language.

I'm not even talking about Arabs. I'm talking about all non-native speakers. Spanish people often speak with a bit of an English accent because their english teachers are often...English. It's all based on how you learn the language and what pronunciations you pick up from your teacher/tv/whatnot. I have no idea where you got that I was caricaturing Arabs.
 
I learned English from an English speaking teacher. I've watched a lot of American movies and probably been influenced by this, more then my English teachings, in my English "accent"
 
Iceland was fun for this as well. Every man jack of them speaking English, but the accents were all over the place. A few had the ghetto thing down nicely and one sounded like a proper hillbilly. Great bunch.


I like Obama's congratulating (in a ringing American accent) the millitary for keeping their nose out.

:lol: SO they have an American accent in the Middle East now when speaking English, I can understand Iraq but I dont anywhere else, British people speak English without an American accent despite watching American television and film

As I said, in most places these days they teach English with an American accent. Most speakers will have some degree of influence from their native language as well but the phonemes they learn are the American ones.
 
Victory God's willing..at least for today. Thugs retreated completely.. Tahrir still ours. Reinforcements have poured in from many areas....costly though. a few deaths reported and around 1000 injuries :(

P.S: hear that like 15 Americans with a banner have joined the protesters at Tahrir. Thank you Yanks..be proud of these 15

Ever since Beijing I admit to getting scared come nightfall for these things. Still, with all the vastly better coverage it seems clear enough that if the military was going to follow through on something like that, that it would be too hard to hide.

Tomorrow will be a landmark day in Egyptian history.

They showed that "report" here too. So now the two sides blame each other for serving Israel's interests, don't they? Do they refer to us as Israel, or are you back to the good old days of Zionist plots?

The funny thing is that Mubarak is the most pro-Israeli leader in the ME, just a bit amusing when his camp accuses the protesters of having Zionist sympathies.
