Tbf with every Dortmund player pressing like a madman our top players would only dare to pass back to DDG, most of the other passes wouldn't reach one of our players anyway. It's easy to blame Sanchez but Dortmund is a bloody great team, and the atmosphere for the visiting team could hardly be more terrifying!
Great player. Wish United had bought him over some of our other purchases this summer.
Such as?
I would have preferred him over Shaw considering they cost a similar sum.
We needed a left back significantly more than a winger. I assume you would have liked us to sign a cheaper option such as Rodriguez? Also, I think Di Maria offers a lot of similar qualities.
Depends on the system really. If we were to play a 3-4-1-2 I would use Di Maria-Blind-Herrera-Sanchez then Mata and RVP/Rooney/Falcao up front. If we wanted to play more defensively I would just play;
-------------Rooney
--------------Mata
Di Maria-Blind-Herrera-Sanchez
Rojo-Smalling-Jones-Rafael
Sanchez is incredibly good defensively, so him and Di Maria would be great defensively out wide in a more defensive counter-attacking team with great wing play.
What would happen if Rojo were to get a long term injuries. You can't go into a season without a specialized LB in the squad.
Was about to say that. We should have bought Alexis and be left without a LB. Madness.
We have Di Maria, and wouldnt have needed both him and Alexis.
I agree, what buyment he is already and he played what, 3 games..It was one of them and I'm glad it's Di Maria as I think he's a better player than Sanchez who I still rate very highly.
You'd hope he was better when he cost twice as much.
You'd hope he was better when he cost twice as much.
It's not that simple -
Di Maria still had 4 years left on his contract which was always going to increase the price and bargaining position of Madrid.
Sanchez was in the last year of his contract.
Piss off, it's not that simple. He wasn't in his last year, he had 2 years left.
With many players being overpriced in current football, the quality of a player and his transfer fee aren't always related. I personally don't care how much players cost.
Yeah, cesc, you simpleton.
I agree.
If you can afford it, and he's going to improve your side (which he clearly has/will) then price isn't an issue. So far Di Maria looks like he will take the league by storm.
His work ethic is immense. His shorts thing is ridiculous.
If it was up to you they'd all be in their pants. He can play with no shorts on for all I care - he's incredible. I haven't been this excited about watching an Arsenal player since Henry in his pomp.
Amazing how opinions change isn't it? Had a few poor games in the last couple of weeks and he was being written off massively. Now he's incredibly strong defensively, scores lots of goal, should have signed him instead of Shaw. Just a bit weird. That free kick yesterday was something else though.
People were saying that he had been poor on here.Couple of poor games?
He was lacking fitness/sharpness but has contributed in all of the game he's played so far. Only the idiotic media would write a player off after one or two games for a new club, in a new league/country.
Or am I missing something here and you're talking about a different player?
4 goals and an assist in 8 games (plus the Community Shield) is a great return for a new signing. Long may it continue.
No he wasn't. He was played as the lone striker against Everton and didn't perform very well in that role. I don't think that's his best position, but that game apart, Alexis has been really good for us. He got the goal that secured our place in the Champions League too. Works his socks off in every game, which reminds me of Ray Parlour. It's been a really long time since I saw an Arsenal player of this quality put in a massive work rate game after game.People were saying that he had been poor on here.
I didn't fecking say he was poor. I said people on the cafe had said that. Why are people jumping on me for this? Jesus. No he wasn't. I'd give Alexis a few more games to develop an understanding with his fellow attackers. I like the fact that he's a lot more direct than much of the Arsenal team.
According to Arsenal fans Ozil puts in that much work rate doesn't he? He did last game anyways. No he wasn't. Yes I did. And since I already referenced how the cafe was changing their opinion on him, I assumed people would be able to understand the second sentence was in the same manner.Sorry fella but you said 'he had a couple of poor games,' in the original post I had quoted - hence the replies you've received.
