The rumours comes from The Sun: is it a serious newspaper?

Read some months ago was Fellaini was about to join PSG so you know how I view this rumour.

So it’s all hearsay. All we actually know is that Ander Herrera does not have a contract to play football next season. From anyone.

Actually, you don't know that. It's not because something isn't publicly announced that it isn't done.

I honestly dont think hes that special at all.
Hes good but a club of our stature could and should aim higher.
Theres plenty of Hererras floating about in Europe.

Also about Herrera you can be sure that one club made him an offer or told him to call them if he wants to join, that club is Athletic Bilbao.

Okay, so name me one midfielder other than Ander who averages 2.8 or more interceptions, 3.4 or more tackles and has scored 2 or more goals and created 3 or more assists?

I know that he will play somewhere next year. I hope it will be for United but only at a reasonable number. If we put Ander Herrera on Verratti/Kroos/Modric wages then we’ve fecked ourselves.

Still, it’s odd that his future is not decided and we’ve only just heard the first rumor of someone else being in for him. Maybe he’s told the club he won’t sign until the manager is decided? Which I wouldn’t blame him for doing.

Im not one to judge footballers solely by stats so i cant tell you that but i can tell you there are plenty of midfielders better than him in the world and that hes overrated by a lot of United fans.
 
I dont think he would be interested in moving to PSG anyway.

He's box to box. Remember the pass he gives to Mata for the first goal against Liverpool with LVG, that's Herrera. Right now, he's asked to hold a bit more so he doesn't venture upfront, but when OGS tells him to do so, it gives a goal vs Chelsea. He is required in our midfield and if we need to upgrade someone, it's Matic to get more speed and energy. Herrera will be able to do that killer pass upfront when he is asked to do so. And in many games, OGS will ask him to do that.

He has no intention to leave for start, hence there are no offers.

I don't think its the wages too, Woodward is now following the policy of not handing out long contracts to players near 30 just as a policy and that might be more of a issue than the money I feel.
 
why would we want to get rid of one of the leaders in the squad? One who has never bad mouthed the club and always gives 100% on the pitch. We all know he isnt a world beater but he offers so much more. He loves the club, he wears the shirt with pride. Why on earth would we even think of lettting him go is beyond me.

But none of them are available and none of them are here. Forget the stat junkies, he's a very good player who does a specific job for us better than most and he has the right mentality. No stat can quantify that but he's a player who would have been right at home under Ferguson. Losing him would be a big problem for us.

Of course he's not the best midfielder in the world.

But he's incredibly important to us, because without him a midfield of Pogba and Matic doesnt work.

He does all the running and ball winning that those 2 lack. So the only way to replace him is with someone who would also do all the running and ball winning that they dont do.

A similarish player would be Alan at Napoli. He wins more tackles than Ander, but intercepts a lot less. And he hasnt scored a single goal this season where Ander has come up with a couple of important ones for us. So even probably the most similar player we could replace him with, doesnt actually replace what he brings to the team

So no, there arent better versions of him out there to buy. There are different versions. People who have different strengths and weaknesses that might not be able to make the Pogba and Matic combination actually work
 
Don't see this happenning. it's a weird one: when he plays well, we play well and I love his passion for the club but he's nowhere near world-class and hardly matches PSG's criteria of signing superstars

This is the proper fact about herrera. I think a lot of people still don't understand how to use him. He is actually better playing slightly ahead as he is very good with his short passing and one two's. He is not good at holding. Once we replace Matic with someone better, Herrera will be better too.

That’s only slightly contradictory. In 5 seasons you’ve picked out a pass from 4 years ago. And also he did win POTY as a deeper holding mid.

Ander’s supporters, just like Ander, should stick to the one thing he does well: win the ball back. Don’t give him qualities he doesn’t actually have.
 
I actually really like Herrera but I think we could get a higher quality of player that does what he does and more. The problem for me is his passing, he's not penetrative enough. When he's playing well and high in confidence he's great but in his base form he tends to pass it backwards and go missing. He's never had that consistency that would have taken him to that next level, for me.
 
Funny how a few weeks ago he was our "captain without the armband", seen as someone loyal to the cause, said all the right things, and he might be sneaking off to PSG on a free.

I suspect they will not give him the length of contract he wanted. I can't see him being there for long. Next season and then I can see him being sold to a club in Spain. It just seems an odd decision. People will say about the money, but PSG will always pay a high wage. If he was leaving I just wish it was somewhere else. He will not get my support going there.
 
Really would be a shame to see Herrera go. Very useful player to have in the squad, has the right mentality and seems to love the club. On the other hand he is 30 in August, and we should probably have higher quality midfielders in the starting 11 if we were to challenge for the title.

Would be disappointed, but not devastated if he leaves.
 
People can talk about him being fairly easy to replace, but I don’t have the faith in the club to actually do that. Seen it too many times, quality going out and not adequately replaced.

We’re looking at a mountain to climb this summer.
 
This has to be down to Ed.

Herrera would have rightly expected a decent contract with a club he has remained faithful to through the peak of his career. He's a natural leader, full of energy and more than talented enough to play for a top side.

How Woodward can let him walk on a free like this, I don't know - but it just highlights the need to move him (Woodward) sideways to make way for a knowledgable DoF, or we will forever be making stupid errors of a similar kind.

I am like you. It will cost a good amount of money to replace him, so it will either be Rabiot for nothing, but high wages or with Ole as manager he is convinced that Scott and Andreas can do the job. I am not as confident. They have caused themselves a problem. We already needed a player in there, but if Ander goes it will be two. That is why I think they will just buy one and make do with what we already have for the other.

Not many people are. I can't understand what united are not doing something about his contract. You can't have a guy from another league and under different manager to come and slot in straightaway. Even if we buy a guy from this league, I am not sure he would be better or even as good as ander

Why people assume that it's due to the club, it could easily be a choice of the player and his family.
 
PSG lost to Barca in the CL and signed Neymar. They lost to us in the CL and are now trying to sign Herrera.

This is sorta like revenge porn in football now.

Nope. If they wanted revenge they would have targeted Pogba surely ? Both are different cases.

They want him because he's a good player.
 
I'd be gutted if we lost him

But if this was the other way around we'd all be certain its a play to get a new contract - and I do expect him to sign with us in the end
