Arsenal are paying the price for accepting mediocrity for over a decade. For all the plaudits Wenger got for keeping them in the top 4 during the stadium payments, all it did was provide an excuse for falling behind the other top clubs, not just in England, but across Europe. It's a mindset and attitude that has been allowed to permeate the club and it's affecting everything that happens there from top to bottom.
From winning their first Premier League in 97/98, to finishing runners-up in 04/05, Arsenal didn't finish outside of the top two positions, winning the league three times, the last of which was the unbeaten season. In that time they also won four FA Cups, as well as reaching a fifth final. In 05/06 they reached the Champions League final, but also finished 4th, 24 points off top, and got turfed out of the FA Cup in the fourth round, and that basically set the tone for the next decade.
The recent flurry of FA Cups aside, they've underperformed across the board every season for 12 or 13 seasons, and look set to do so again. Without some sort of serious overhaul, I can only foresee things getting worse.

Does look that way. The commitment of their players is laughable. I dont blame Sanchez for wanting out but you cant sit on the bench laughing at those out there. I mean it was funny as hell but a team thats together wouldnt have seen that

Wenger is so poor tactically and it isn't scruitised enough. He continually plods forwards with the same worn out, failed ideologies that he's stood by for the last decade and it baffles him why his sides aren't competing any more.
Anyone who has watched 5 minutes of a Klopp side knows exactly how his side will set up and play. The last thing you do is leave acres of space behind the back four for Salah and Co to waltz into untrammelled.
I don't understand what Wenger's plan is. He has come out and said that transfer fees will become obsolete and players will all just move on a free when their contract is up. Trouble is he hasn't told any of the other top teams, who continue to improve their squads by spending actual money. And I'm not sure the smaller teams like Southampton are going to give up their main source of income.

Well, getting a hiding like they did is bad, but the worrying thing from their (Arsenals) point of view was the dire performance coupled with what looked like no effort or desire from the players, hell, most of them did not look to care at all

Well Sanchez maybe. Ozil's performance was about what I expect from him now. Not quite sure how he gets banded around as a world class player. He basically has a good touch and not much else.

They aren't our rivals though. They were once when it was us two fighting for the title, but those days are over.
But now we should genuinely pity them, well at least I do. Not just for the fact they should be better, not just for the fact those fans are paying ridiculous money to see what we all know is just pure shit, and not even for the fact Arsenal fan tv has now made them a laughing stock just so a few more cnuts can make money off that club and those genuine fans, but for the fact we could easily be them right now.
Thankfully we are not, we have our own problems that have brought new issues of their own, but thank feck we are not Arsenal right now.

It's horrible to watch, really. Wenger's as popular with the Arsenal fans as Thatcher was with the miners. Quite sad to see it ending like this but it seems impossible to turn it around. Half the squad want to leave, most of the fans want him to go and HMS Dignified Exit has sailed into the distance.

Calling Arsenal a shambles at the moment is actually quite complimentary, Wenger sent his team out today and they played right into Liverpool's hands, Arsenal barely laid a glove on that suspect back four, only time Arsenal looked close to scoring was when the Liverpool keeper started messing about. Sanchez is wasted in that team.
Growing up I loved watching Arsenal, they were so hard to play against, they seemed to be able to go to war and play great football. It's hard to imagine that Wenger would go from that side to the current Arsenal side.

I can't recall in world football the last time a once top tier manager, arguably 2nd/3rd best in the world in his pomp, fell off so quickly yet hung on for years due to his pedigree.
The only sports coach/manager I can compare in such fall would be Tom Landry, and he too let the game pass him by due to his stubbornness, lack of change, and drafting terrible players. Ownership finally made the change (well, new ownership did) and the new coach righted the ship within 24 months and by the fourth year they were top of the world (in their sport).

Those sides had leaders on the pitch, multiple leaders. The NBC Sports crew summed it best during post-match - there's no leaders on the pitch and the manager isn't a leader either.
