I always thought it was silly of Fergie to admit something like that to the media. There is very little to be gained from telling the whole world he signed a player without seeing him play.

Not that it excuses the disgraceful behaviour of the Mail. I've never seen a newly signed young player come under such (unfair) scrutiny. I really hope Bebe proves them wrong.

Shocking, so shocking that the sports editor needs to get a sack for allowing such a cobbled up mixture of vile childish insults to appear on his section. Talk about having it in for the lad. The mail can feck right off, let us be the judge of our own folk.

Shocking to see an article like that. What hae they got against him

I'm reserving any judgment on him til I see him play. I did find it odd that Fergie signed him without ever watching him though. Very out of the ordinary.

I dont think he'd seen Ole play? Didn't he sign him on Jim Ryan's recommendation?

He should be able to trust the judgement of scouts etc.

The criticism directed towards Bebe is a disgrace and I hope that he will be able to prove these idiots wrong. On the other hand I do ask how many wingers can we develop? We have Bebe, Cleverley and Obertan as promising wingers, Diouf, Eirkem and Welbeck can play there not to forget that Park, Nani and Valencia are not exactly old. When you consider that our central midfield isn't exactly the strongest then I wonder whether it would be wiser to spend 7.5m elsewhere

If we played a suitable target man last night he may well have had some assists. Lighting fast and put in some decent crosses, bit eager but good enough. Poor team effort all in all.

Looks a good prospect overall, technical side of game could do with some work as well as his reading of the game. He's lucky enough that he has the physical side to his game already which will allow him to play a bit more than a youth prospect would.

That touch at 0:49 was very nice. He's got a hell of a cross on him, they just needed someone to get on the end of them.

Haven't watched the game but have just viewed that YouTube clip and it looked like he had some promising moments.

Some very good crosses there, better positioning from our forwards and we could have had a couple of goals.

Saw the game myself and although I feel like he's still pacing himself for fitness reasons and was probably instructed to keep thinks pretty simple which is possibly why he didn't often take on his full back, he still looked promising and had Macheda played we might have been talking about a hatrick of assists.

Looking forward to seeing play alongside more experianced players.

10m on Smalling, 4m on Diouf, 3m on Obertan, 7m on Hernandez, 7m on Bebe, 18m on Valencia, getting Owen.. I wonder maybe, just maybe SAF trust those that he has there right now and those that are coming through..?

Ando, Gibson, Fletcher, Carrick, Pogba, Eikrem..

He must play on the left. I don't think his crossing was good. He done well to get some crosses into the box but they were not aimed towards anyone. On the left he can come inside and shoot or dribble, or play short passes.

I have less doubt than ever that Bebe will be a top player eventually

Beckhams rule of crossing, you make the crosses into the area, its the strikers job to get on the end of it and anticipate it. No one had really played with him before competitively, so didn't have the experience to get into the areas he was crossing into. A few more games and it will be a good offensive weapon. Also why does playing on the left make any difference than him playing on the right?

49 million....we've got some value for that

I really don't know what to say apart from the fact that without Scholes our central midfield looks clueless in terms of creativity. I think that we are much stronger on the flanks and forward line then we are in central midfield.

We'll get at least our money back for Diouf, Obertan and Hernandez if we decide to sell, maybe even make a profit. Not sure about Smalling and Bebe yet, but we won't be making too much a loss.

It's calculated gambling from Fergie. I'm not particularly liking it too much but it won't hurts us financially at least.

You aim for the attacker or the space infront of them.

You do not aim just for a dangerous area when there is no one there. Or do you overhit them.

I would give Bebe a 5/10 for crossing.

You should work for the media :D

I think we really need to be patience with him. He is a raw talent. I do remember a certain portuguese who was really slated esp by the media for being only a one-trick showpony when he first arrived.

You're an idiot.

When you're on the wing you have no option but to put it in the area where strikers should be. If the striker isn't there it's the striker's fault. There's no point floating a cross to the edge of the box - nothing will come of it.

Absolute bullshit. You aim for the space between the defenders and the keeper. You put the ball there for the strikers to attack and to make it difficult for the defence to deal with. Bebe (mostly) judged his crosses well last night, hit them early and with pace - a slight touch by a forward or defender and you've got a goal.

I'm not suggesting he's the next Beckham, but I was very pleasantly surprised by his crossing last night

It's just that understanding that was required yesterday, usually strikers don't anticipate a ball in until the provider is either in room and has looked up or when he is running out of pitch space running down the flank.

With Bebe yesterday he was immediately marked by two guys with no support from the full back yet, almost unexpectedly, managed to fizz a wicked cross into the danger area. If there was more of an understanding, i.e. knew that an early ball was coming in, and more support from midfield (credit to Villa for keeping them out of the game) then there's a good chance we would be discussing an assist or two.

In general, great wingers should be efficient with their crosses. In that sense, I do agree with Scholesy. Ideally, the best wingers can always look up and cross to the right areas where there are teammates there and finding the perfect part of their head or feet. In reality, its a mixture of good crossing into the right area where attackers can attack and also looking up and finding the target.

Because of the unfortunate injury to Valencia Bebes push for the first team as been stepped up.Never saw the game but reports seem to suggest that he was anonymous.

Exactly, like said before it's the strikers job to get on the end of those crosses.

So basically you're saying that the winger can cross aimlessly and its the striker's job to perform miracles and reach them? I never thought that the striker is the on the pitch ball boy.

tbf everyone was anonymous last evening

They were aimed into dangerous areas. If he waits and waits for a striker to get into position every time then the opposition's defense can regroup. His crossing was fine. One or two wayward balls in, but generally his delivery was good. Plus, it was done with a minimum of fuss.

And I don't why you want him to move to the left- we've already got enough players who are predominantly right-footed and are used there, namely Nani, Park, and Obertan.
