Berbatov | Fulham player

Milan are skint. Compared to them we're like Shitty on steroids.

Maybe but after the sales of Thiago and Ibramovich they should have money to spend , and i wonder if that's the kind of forward they will be looking at right now.

One for Erica, World's coolest texter?

They have money to spend but the whole point of selling those 2 was reducing the wage bill. It's too high a percentage of turnover. I think Juventus is the only club in Serie A with a wage as percentage of turnover near 50%.

He's still far from Ibra's wages though. They can afford to pay whoever they want now considering that they just got rid off at least 7 very big earners.

I could see Berba playing, and being very effective, as the attacking player in a midfield 3. Would need two pacy, work horse type, players besides him mind.

Just play him alongside Carrick in a two. He'd just keep the ball for fun.

Berba has been terrific today. I've said it before, but Berbatov is not slow, he's actually deceptively fast, he just looks slow - never seen him outpaced on a longer stretch; hell, he even outpaced Distin and not many people do that!

I still don't want him to go, but that depends on the Moura saga.

He's technique is still the best from any of our strikers. Such a talented player it's insane at times. Every non-United friend of mine asks me why the feck doesn't he feature more often for us, I can understand why it is so - our fast guns approach. Barring that, though, Dimitar Berbatov getting virtually no playing time at all is and would be insanity at any club in the world.

After that performance, we should ask for £10m. £15m if Erica wants him.

45 mins of a friendly.

And if he was shit, those 45 mins would be everything to go by, right?

Apart from that, from what I know all Man United players are playing against the very same opponents in the very same game. Still, it's him who stand out, so those praising him have every right to do so.

It must be hard for you, isn't it. Watching Berba still enjoying his football, even if it's a friendly:)

I enjoyed some of his moments, so no not hard for me at all.

I just choose not to gush over him every time he does something impressive...In a friendly

Typical Berbatov performance. Flashes of skill and brilliance, but wants the ball to him to be perfect. If it isn't right for him he puts zero effort into making something of it. I know its pre-season but thats how he is, and thats why he's not really wanted at United anymore.

As much as he showed he has fantastic touch and technique, I saw lots of other things that reminded me why we wont miss him if he leaves.

Why? Because he doesn't run around like a headless chicken after losing the ball or having the vision to see he won't be able to catch it?

When he misplaced the pass to Hernandez, he was mad at himself, not anyone else; do you want him to be smiling if he is annoyed with his own performance?
I don't get it...

Guaranteed if he didn't play well, Randall would have came up with some crap about Berba not determined to prove himself.

Its not about running around like a headless chicken. If the ball is being passed to you and its slightly inaccurate, follow the fecking ball and try to make something of it. The pressure could force a mistake or you can slow their play down by forcing the ball backwards. Don't shrug your shoulders and give the passer a look.

Thats different from the opposing team having secure possession and running after the ball like a dog chasing after a tennisball.

I thought he played well and was comfortably the stand out player on the pitch. It's only a friendly of course but with them defending in big numbers his touch and awareness was still class where some of our other first teamers weren't so good. Said it before but if you get people running ahead of him then be has a lot to offer.

Actually it happened when the ball was so shit he had no chance to get to it whatsoever. I like it, it can increase the level of focus throughout the team. The amount of misplaced, simple passes was/is staggering if you consider these players are professionals. Always wondered how could you not make 6 yard pass to your unmarked teammate and I know what I'm talking about, it's easy-peasy, even moreso for such skilled guys.

Throwing thumbs after diabolical pass is all nice and friendly but it won't get you further. Sometimes you need a good bollocking for such stupid mistakes. He applauded one of our youngsters' pass close to the end of the game, even though it didn't reach him. Why? because it was a good try, not one of those poor 'get myself out of the ball's possesion asap' efforts.

It's funny. At the moment, we live in an age whereby it's players like Berbatov the most successful clubs are building their starting line ups around. Players that have fantastic ball control, vision, ball retention and all round technique. It is such a crazy situation whereby we cannot afford Berbatov an important first team place, or even just more minutes on the pitch in general.

That's not a criticism of Fergie, and that's not to say that Berbatov is perfect either, but it just seems so bizarre that a player of Berbatov's style and attributes hasn't completely fit in here. He should've been a midfielder, and a really good one at that.

Edit:

Consider this, for example:

---------------------De Gea--------------------
Rafael---------Ferdinand-----Vidic-----------Evra

------------------Carrick------Scholes-----------
----------------------Berbatov------------------
Nani----------------Rooney--------------Kagawa

At this point, it's become very clear that Berbatov is not a 30 a season goalscorer, and that sometimes his play slows our build up in the final third. By the same token, it's also become apparent that Rooney perhaps does not offer as much as other players do in other aspect behind the forward, and is perhaps more suited to the foward role based on last year. Playing Berbatov behind Rooney would bring Berbatov deeper, whereby his composed style of play might be more appropriate, and it would also allow Rooney to focus predominantly on scoring.

Whether people deem this defensively sound enough is another thing, and I'm sure someone will disagree with Kagawa's position (or Valencia/Welbeck's omission), but I can't help thinking there should've been a role here for Berbatov as a more advanced midfielder, particularly if there was another similar player to Carrick in that midfield.

feck me, one of the more original excuses in the thread that is. Good job Keano wasn't like that. He'd put in even more effort to get the ball back and then give you a bollocking.
