He was on the bench?! feck me never noticed.

Have we established when exactly the contract extension needs to be activated?
Any time before the contract deadline, for a club trying to buy him it's as if he has 18 months left, because effectively he does. Any time after that moment, if its not activated, then he only has 6 months left on his contract and can be purchased for pittance.
So when is the deadline, if its after January then we are laughing and it makes no difference. They either trump up money as if he had 18 months left on his contract or they wait and see if we let him go for a free. If its in January then at some point he will, for definite, have 18 or 6 months after his contract and so they may as well wait until then.
Essentially I don't think I agree with either of you, its probably 50/50. If they wait 6 months they could have him on a free, or he will have another year left and be older and not theirs. If they pay now they will never know.
They couldn't. That's the thing as long as we activate the clause and there's no reason why we shouldn't. It's not a two way street i.e. only the club has to decide whether to activate it or not.
Oh yeah, but I mean the clubs thinking of buying him.
From Bayer Leverkusen point of view. They know we have 3 strikers ahead of him, they know he is on big wages, will we activate his clause? Will we really, when we have Welbeck, Hernandez, Macheda and Owen?
If they wait, they could get their man for free (what is the chance 10% of us letting him go to save wages and space), or they could have wasted 6 months where they could have him (90%) chance except they have to pay.
Sounds like a game of bluff to me.

Am I right in thinking that De Gea and the two Da Silva's will need to be registered in the 25 man squad next season but not this season.
Including Berbatov, Scholes and Fletcher that is 24 players. Not including Macheda, or Jones who I think has another year or Kuszczak.
So when you put it like that, is it worth keeping him? Game of Bluff I tell ya.
Ahh but I would say there's a fair chance Scholes won't play on through next season, or have there been murmurings to the contrary? Fletcher still must be a bit of a doubt too, and wouldn't Gibson have freed up a place too?

Fergie stated that it will be activated. So it will be activated. It isn't half a year.
Fergie is not always correct. Recently, he stated that Lindegaard is more experienced than de Gea. This is simply an incorrect assertion, and frankly it is embarrassing that Fergie does not know such a basic thing about his own players.

Na I doubt he is off. Fergie likes having 4 first team strikers, so at the moment it is Berba/Chico/Rooney/Welbz. Diouf is to be loaned out in this window, Owen is no where near ready, and all that is left then is Will Keane who is stil learning his trade.
Berbatov out for £10m(ish)?
Demba Ba in for £10m(ish)?
He's explosive, clearly quality and would fit nicely into our attack while shaving nearly 5 years off Berbatov and offering fantastic resale value.
Just a thought.
Would at least keep Owen company in the treatment room when his knee inevitably explodes 30 minutes into his debut

I'm not completely ignoring it but still at the moment the option that we are going to exercise doesn't count for much if we're going to sell him tomorrow as it has not been activated.
Well if he's being sold this transfer window none of the interested clubs have to worry about it. They see his contract as it currently stands: expiring at the end of this season. So what they're going to pay affects that. Just because there's a clause that can be activated in March doesn't mean that they must pay more. The clause is of no concern to interested clubs at the moment.
Now United on the other hand, it gives us a choice (if we do decide to sell him) of whether to sell now with half a year left on his contract, or wait till the summer after his contract clause has been activated and he has a year left. There's also wages etc to take into account in the remaining months till the end of the season too and we might get more money for him at the end of the season with a year left on his contract but how much more is hard to say.

Am I the only one that think that SAF may add a new player to the team now?
