Eden Hazard | "I am signing for Chelsea"

Why would he feel the need to write history ?
He could want to start another beautiful legacy with another number. He might want to avoid the added pressure of the number 7.Well there are many reasons to say he'd want the number 7 just as many reasons to say he wouldn't want the number.

I'm not saying you're wrong because it's a valid point. I'm just saying that is is unlikely, most footballers in the world who aren't dictated by money would give their right arm to be United's Number 7.

Look at Giggs, everything he has done in the shirt and yet he's known as Ryan Giggs, rarely do people think of him as Ryan Giggs 11. There was talk about his number when he won his 11th title because it was fitting but in reality the Number 11 shirt despite making it his own and wearing it for near on 20 years isn't iconic or considered much of a brand.

Maybe if the next two number 11's take it on and become icons themselves then the shirt will start to carry weight but at the moment it's just a shirt number Giggs wears.

The fact the number 7 itself is so iconic in western society as well also adds weight to it.

Aye, I was thinking more of the Glamour of the shirt and sell-ability though to be honest.

He was a fantastic player for us but he wasn't a "product".

What? He was the first real no 7, and it was his performances for over a decade that iconized the number.

Best may have been the first to bring acclaim to the number, but not definitively, im sure he also wore 11. Shirt numbers were usually defined back then by the position you played in the team. I am fairly sure Robson was the first to wear that number and no other, and considering the length of time and the manner in which he wore it, surely he should be credited for establishing the legend, for the other 'products' to continue.

A strange view on Robbo that Pexbo. He was the only shining light for Utd, during a time of Liverpool domination. He epitomised everything a footballer should be imo, and for England he was also an inspirational Captain, poster boy and national hero. Utd's greatest ever midfielder and Captain imo, not a successful as Keane granted. But for me during my childhood, he was a hero in ever sense of the word, and the only man ever to take up wallspace in my bedroom. A feat i am certain will never again be repeated! :D

The number 7 shirt to me basically means that no matter how good you think your players are we have one that can stick his fingers up to you all. hazard basically wants to play in Cantona's position. Bring it on I say. Nike will be chomping at the bit for us to get a new number 7.

Number 7 at United sends shivers down my spine, to be honest. Even Owen didn't ruin the aura.

You've missed my point though, I'm thinking of the modern game and off the field. The "Product"

Cantona was an icon away from the field, he was a real celebrity.
Beckham was a real media icon away from the field.
Ronaldo followed Beckhams suit.
Best was ahead of them all, the original playboy footballer.

Robson was more of a man's footballer, on the back pages and talked about between mates at the pub rather than in the glossy magazines. That's the "product" I was referring.

Former ballon d'or winner, its no begrudging the shirt at all.

Yes ok he played for the scouse, but thats besides the point.

Honestly, I didn't give a flying .... that he was given nr. 7, although it was surprising I’ll admit.

I know you are not supposed the Twitter stuff here, but John Chapman, ‏who's a very reliable source on Belgian football, said Eden Hazard told DH's Michel Dubois(?) that he'll choose next club based on playing position & planned new recruits.

Now I've already heard about the role in a team but now he wants clubs to convince him by telling what other players they'll bring along? Who the hell does he think he is?

I do wonder how much Nike play a part in our finances.

When signing a player like Kagawa for example, if City or Chelsea were in for them we obviously can't offer as much per week in a contract but the endorsement options that would open up to him in Asia would be beyond lucrative. That's something that can only be matched by either City or Chelsea by paying him the big money.

Nike would market the player so well out there it has to be a real incentive.

I realise that Nike now have City as well but it's the United name that is the selling point, Nike are the middlemen.

This could be the Kagawa link for us, Kagawa being a central player and playing in the position he wants to play could make him wonder what our intentions are.

It does make sense though and ties in with him wanting playing time. The last thing you'd want to do when you have options is sign for the club that is going to play you the least and in your least favourite position.

Who does he think he is? How about a player with choices?

I agree with them. We weren't signing anyone that was going to be considered as special as the previous tenant. Owen was a gamble, and by giving him the shirt it removed all the pressure from the next participant. When we sign Hazard we won't be expecting immediate returns. If we signed him after Ronaldo we would have.

If that's true, which I doubt it is, I reckon he may ask that question more with regards to any other competition to his position that they may be bringing in, to help him decide where he will get more playing time.

Hazard is an arrogant player in the good way, he'll believe he's good enough to earn his spot for any of the english teams interested. If he's asking about other potential recruits I don't think the reason of him being worried about playing time and him having a direct opponent.
It's more to do with the club's will to reinforce itself for the next season, he knows wherever he'll go he'll have competition, he cannot start to worry about something so automatic

So all 3 clubs then.

I mentioned this yesterday in a post. It's reported on 5live news:

.....

It's reported that his choice will be based on which position he will be playing (like he's the mighty O'Shea or something!)

Great - he hasn't even signed for a club yet, and he's already wanting to be convinced of their ambition.

I can't believe the spastic conversation all of you had on the previous page about the # 10 shirt number! Ridiculous..

What if City turn around and say, 'oh yeah, we're looking at Robben, Hulk, Belhanda, Gotze' etc etc. Of course this will have an effect on his decision. I just wish Macheda had asked this question before signing for QPR.

You better fecking start believing it big balls, we're only in May and we haven't yet been linked to a central midfielder, things are going to get a lot worse around here. :D

Let's guess what will be the Saturday update on Hazard....

"Hazard narrowed down his options to two clubs!"

He wouldn't have to worry about half the players you mentioned but I get your point :D

I am not convinced he is worth the drama, no doubt if he fulfills his potential wherever he goes Real Madrid will come calling in a couple of years, as they are currently threatening to do with Aguero.

Hes not south american /portuguese/spanish, only they really have the burning desire to play for that club.

The rest of Europe will happily play for another European giant, the french speakers usually prefer the PL

This is what happens when an actual transfer muppet happens to be the worlds greatest footballing talent.

I bet he's sat at home with his phone in one hand so he can check an automated feed with the search "Eden Hazard", and jacking furiously off with the other hand, while cursing himself for not making the choice.

This sort of reminds me of the fanfare you seem to get during the draft system in the NFL etc

:lol::lol:

We need Olly for this.

Eden Hazard : "I have always dreamed of playing the number 10 role, and wearing that number on my back." #CFC #MUFC #MCFC

Ok, this may worry some people but it is quite possible that he means for Belgium, not a prospective club.

If he means clubs then our of Mata, Dzeko and Rooney. Rooney is the least likely to give up his shirt.

I wonder if these quotes are some shitty little hints towards us

Are you retarded?
