Evra accuses Suarez of racist remarks | Suarez guilty of racial abuse

This

Anybody who has watched the footage will know conclusively that Suarez was not displaying any signs in his body language whatsoever of 'frendliness', 'endearment' or anything else where his comments could be construed as part of an amiable encounter

I guess the closest variant we have is the americanism 'nigga'.

Obviously used predominantly amongst young black people when referring to eachother, but I remember at school white people using it too - 'what up my nigga' type of thing. Just being daft and jeuvenile (and wanting to be black).

But in a highly charged situation, arguing with a black person, you're not going to be saying 'my nigga'.

I'm guessing that two black mates who jokingly/ironically call each other nigga would be a tad offended at being called nigger repeatedly by some angry non-black, non-friend opponent on the football field. Basically Suarez's defence is that they shouldn't be.

I actually thought Poyet spoke quite well, perceptions of what we regard as racism are not necessarily regarded as racism in other countries , hence the only furure over Blatters' comments have been in the UK.

Of course, having been in the UK since Jan, and previously at Ajax who reside in a very cosmopolitan, mult-racial City, you'd expect Suarez to know what is and what is not acceptable over here.

It's good point and apart from France( I can't think of any other) we in the UK are probably the only nation that has such a huge population of ethnic minorities...hence the institutionalised racism in so many other European countries

Fergie on Suarez/Evra row. "FA asked us not to say anything & we've abided by that. Liverpool have been drip-feeding stuff out."

The problem is that Evra won't receive much support from France because of the fact he is really hated (world cup events).Actually I've been on several forums and some of the views are shocking, they see Evra a shit stirrer as usual in this situation.

Liverpool have been disgraceful on this. It's a damning indictment on the status of institutional racism in football. They should have gagged Dalglish right from the start

The thing is with the French sporting public is that they're OK when you're doing well but feck do they give you stick if you don't, and I'm talking about national teams.Epitome of the fairweather fans. They totally disregard the fact that Domenech should never have been re-appointed yet Evra's an easy scapegoat becuse he spoke up...they don't like it. See thread on Cantona

He already speaks as if he has a gag in his mouth

Exactly right. People have been saying we have no evidence...the reason being we're doing our business behind closed doors. Liverpool have resorted to a pathetic pr campaign because Suarez - foolishly - let the cat out of the bag.

The governing body in this country might look foolish sometimes, but there's no way he would have been charged - especially after such a deliberately and detailed investigation - had there not been a sufficient case.

Now Poyet pulls this. Suarez is as guilty as sin. Not even a language nuance can disguise the fact he used a term that is offensive to a coloured person. It doesn't mean he's a racist per se, but he was trying to provoke a reaction and obviously skin colour was the easiest option in the heat of the moment.

Not according to what I have read, he claims that part of the 'discussion' took place in Spanish and 'even they were surprised by his reaction'.

That's right, i forgot he said it was all in Spanish.

Really hard to believe that Evra would get upset if he was being called 'negrito' by his teammates. Have to seriously doubt that one, and something easy enough to disprove.

Really wish this had never happened in the 1st place, if he gets let off Evra will be the one who looks bad

No he won't. Suarez has more or less admitted that he used the word "Negrito" and I think watching the match it could be clear that Suarez used that in the wrong sense, however that can't be proved obviously so I expect Suarez will be let off. However Evra will go with reputation intact.

That goes without saying. No united fan would want our players to be on the receiving end of racist abuse just because they want a player suspended. Its not like Liverpool are competing with us for medals ATM.

Not sure why. This isn't a case of the FA charging Suarez and then commencing an investigation into the events; rather their enquiries have concluded he at least has a case to answer. Doesn't that in itself justify Evra's position here?

Just to clarify, this is what Poyet said/says;

"Me, I'm not racist. I've lived with people of different colours in different countries and I adapted to every single situation. Suarez needs to adapt to England, and England needs to adapt to the players that come here.

"England needs to understand how the rest of the world lives. If we have that understanding, easy."

Is he having a fecking laugh or what?

Love to know how any Black players in his Brighton squad feel about this.

Is there any definite evidence that the FA can nail him on? Or is it still his word against Evra's?

I saw quotes from him in the past week where he says he called Evra 'Negrito'. I believe it is an alternative to the other 'N' word. He claimed he used it because it was a term widely used in Uruguay.

Whatever way he meant it, it was a reference to the colour of Evra's skin, and therefore FA charged him.

The irony is that if Suarez had not said this, I don't think the FA had any evidence to charge him with anything other than Evra's statement.

Poyet missed an important bit (bolded):

"Me, I'm not racist. I've lived with people of different colours in different countries and I adapted to every single situation. Suarez needs to adapt to England, and England needs to adapt to the players that come here.

"England needs to understand how the rest of the world lives. If we have that understanding, easy."

"Suárez needs to understand how people in England live. If we have that understanding, easy."

On the other hand, England should just adapt to the rest of the world and get on with it. If the Premier League imports a new Iranian player and he wants to execute homosexuals on the pitch, we simply have to abide by that.

Now the Liverpool fans are all over Twitter retweeting a link to an article with Hernandez saying it in his days at Chivas.

They don't really get this do they?

I haven't seen any of this, I'm going to assume (Being a United fan) that he used the word (Negrito?) to his team mates? As in the context was "my little black friend" or something which might be acceptable there, rather than just calling an opponent you are trying to wind up "little black man".

Could someone bring me up to speed?

From what I've read you're exactly right. The thing that gets me is the people asking why there is no investigation into him saying it, while at the same time the culture difference is their main defence of Suarez.

Maybe Valencia can shag a 14iyear-old in Salford and cite cultural differences.

This is the part where an American says England is a collapsing society run by Muslims already.

:D

I'm pretty sure our lads dont call him negrito. It doesn't make sense. There's absolutely no reason to do it. A lame excuse and the FA better not buy it

Suarez is gonna get fecked for this. Liverpool fans should be ashamed of themselves. I don't know a single one who didnt trot out the "Evra's done this twice before" bullshit. I understand defending your player, but they went beyond defending and focused on attacking Evra. Pathetic behaviour all round from them.

Can you imagine the "Justice for..." campaign if the tables were turned here...
