Evra accuses Suarez of racist remarks | Suarez guilty of racial abuse

Yep. Guess it's similar legalese to stuff like: 'I welcome the enquiry into these allegations of kangaroo sex which I'm accused of....etc'

Not that I've ever been accused of having sex with kangaroos, you understand.
I think you're going all scouse on us, and claiming it's a kangeroo court where you were gaoled for having sex.

Glad he's been banned. The reaction from Liverpool as a club is incredible. I cannot believe they and Kenny are still backing him. As for the 40k fine, it's a bit random. Like sending someone to jail for 2 months but also tapping them slightly on the wrist.

I want Evra to sue Liverpool FC for libel

The reaction would be insane

In my culture, having sex with kangaroos means that I'm not a racist.

Good bunch of lads over there by the looks of things.

Also I noticed a member called Boss - is that our very own Boss from the Caf?

That Sunderland forum is terrific.

We have suffered a lot of hardship as a city and as a club, and we come together when times are tough. That is not self pity, that is togetherness - community. You'll Never Walk Alone is more than a phrase to us.

You do realise you're on a Sunderland board?

Where the lies come from:

In the 2006 case of claimed racial abuse by Steve Finnan, the accusation was levelled at Finnan by a deaf fan who claimed he lip-read the racial slur. Evra declined to complain. A rather odd thing to do for a man with a supposed inclination to play the race card, I’m sure you’ll agree.
In the case with involving Chelsea groundsman, Tony Bethell, it was Mike Phelan and Richard Hartis of Manchester United’s coaching staff who claimed they heard the abuse. As the FA report says “The two witnesses who say they heard those words directed by Mr Bethell at Mr Evra are the Manchester United first team coach Mr Mike Phelan and the goalkeeping coach Mr Richard Hartis.” It later goes on to say “Even if we disregard the fact that Mr Evra has never claimed to have heard such a remark on that day, it is notable that there were several other people far nearer to Mr Bethell at the critical point in time than were either Mr Phelan or Mr Hartis.”
So in reality, Evra accused neither Finnan nor Bethell of a racist remark. The claims were made by others. These are the cold, hard facts.

This. I would think Evra would have a case to sue for defamation of character for those claming he's made previous claims of racism abuse that were unfounded. This is being used as the main reason Evra's words should never be trusted. Though really we're just taking Suarez's word for what he said, he admitted it, so it's really being used as character assassination.

Someone in England needs to report this to the police, that's all that happened in the Terry case, some supporter called the cops.

Suarez cleared of all charges!! - RTG Sunderland Message Boards

Then around page 14 for a follow up.

Good to see Sunderland fan's seeing logic too.
Good stuff.

I liked this response to a 'pool fan citing corruption as the reason for the decision:

This response is why you are quickly becoming one of the most detested sets of people in this country. Everything is always against you and its just you lot who suffer.

How come Evertonians never whinge or cry on like you bunch of fairies ?

The fckin lot of you want to grow a set of balls and man up. When our players act like wankers, we're embarrased and question whether they should play for us again AS THEY"VE LET US ALL DOWN; CLUB; FANS; CITY. When your players let you down, it's someone else's fault, always.

Your club has the collective age of a spoilt eight year old.

Forgot he also has that Fulham gesture hearing coming up. Could well be 10 games by the time his sentence starts. :smirk:

I look forward to Liverpool's official statement after that one.

"Sniff Sniff. We're really really angry. Sniff. feck off FA."

A few days ago I questioned Liverpool's stance in this saga. Along the way we have seen Dalglish make rookie mistake's time after time. I was under the impression that sooner or later the club must use their PR department to do some damage control, or contact some professional media consult to help them with a public strategy.

This is what they do.

Liverpool Football Club is very surprised and disappointed with the decision of the Football Association Commission to find Luis Suarez guilty of the charges against him.

We look forward to the publication of the Commission's Judgment. We will study the detailed reasons of the Commission once they become available, but reserve our right to appeal or take any other course of action we feel appropriate with regards to this situation.

We find it extraordinary that Luis can be found guilty on the word of Patrice Evra alone when no-one else on the field of play - including Evra's own Manchester United teammates and all the match officials - heard the alleged conversation between the two players in a crowded Kop goalmouth while a corner kick was about to be taken.

The Club takes extremely seriously the fight against all forms of discrimination and has a long and successful track record in work relating to anti-racist activity and social inclusion. We remain committed to this ideal and equality for all, irrespective of a person's background.

LFC considers racism in any form to be unacceptable - without compromise. It is our strong held belief, having gone over the facts of the case, that Luis Suarez did not commit any racist act. It is also our opinion that the accusation by this particular player was not credible - certainly no more credible than his prior unfounded accusations.

It is key to note that Patrice Evra himself in his written statement in this case said 'I don't think that Luis Suarez is racist'. The FA in their opening remarks accepted that Luis Suarez was not racist.

Luis himself is of a mixed race family background as his grandfather was black. He has been personally involved since the 2010 World Cup in a charitable project which uses sport to encourage solidarity amongst people of different backgrounds with the central theme that the colour of a person's skin does not matter; they can all play together as a team.

He has played with black players and mixed with their families whilst with the Uruguay national side and was Captain at Ajax Amsterdam of a team with a proud multi-cultural profile, many of whom became good friends.

It seems incredible to us that a player of mixed heritage should be accused and found guilty in the way he has based on the evidence presented. We do not recognise the way in which Luis Suarez has been characterised.

It appears to us that the FA were determined to bring charges against Luis Suarez, even before interviewing him at the beginning of November. Nothing we have heard in the course of the hearing has changed our view that Luis Suarez is innocent of the charges brought against him and we will provide Luis with whatever support he now needs to clear his name.

We would also like to know when the FA intend to charge Patrice Evra with making abusive remarks to an opponent after he admitted himself in his evidence to insulting Luis Suarez in Spanish in the most objectionable of terms. Luis, to his credit, actually told the FA he had not heard the insult.

I don't know where to start but my first reaction is that this masterpiece most be written by a first class amateur. There is no way a company or organization with millions of customer/followers would deliver such a statement. In every part of it there is zero self reflection, not one single word of regrets but a massive wall of defending words. And the worst part of it is that they continue to smear the victim.

I wrote that Liverpool have cornered themselves in a lose and lose situation. Their sponsors and partners will take notice of their actions and I guess many of them will not directly like the negative publicity associated with one of their star players and the clubs official statement. The wisdom to learn is never write or talk about important subjects when you are upset or emotional.

I look forward to see where this end, as a United supporter it's always entertaining when a rival feck up. But to be honest this is to much even for me. Btw. My Liverpool friends are furious. Hate Evra. Hate the FA. Hate United and off course I can feck off for thinking this verdict was expected. Nice words so close to Christmas.

Ho ho ho ho. Here is Santa with some presents. Do we have a little Luis here or a Kenny boy. Please come forward. I have a hard packet for you.

I find it unfathomable that it's not just some petty, bitter fans on a forum, but the club itself came out and basically reiterated their points of view more articulately and slightly more democratically, but it's now basically everyone who isn't a United fan.

'Corruption' keeps cropping up, despite it being an independent panel that apparently Liverpool were happy with. Obviously Fergie's numerous fines and bans have left everybody's memories now that something's gone out way.

He admitted to using a racist term, to let him off would just be farcical. Yet now that he's got a ban, Evra and United are being victimised again.

Next time we play we have to be aware that there may be an active campaign to smear one of our players. Their behavoiur will have to be shit hot. I'd go as far as saying don't say a word to the cnuts so they don't have an opportunity.

Far fetched? Read their statement, would you put it past those children?

Other fans for once seem to be fully behind us on this.

I wonder what I'd think if I was a Liverpool fan, because I don't normally mind RAWK at all, but I find the outrage at this baffling.

The LFC statement is just weird. I genuinely don't get it, and it seems it's caused quite a stir on twitter as well, with journalists from the DM and Guardian mocking it.

I just can't comprehend it, I am interested in the findings of the enquiry to see if they have any justification.

Pah, you can't afford a lawyer (nor I) - you'll have to engage me in hand-to-hand combat (no wombat).

Alas, in my culture, we run like f*ck at the first sign of impending violence.

Why is everyone looking at Sunderland forums, is there some connection I'm missing?

Was just looking to gauge opinion from other fans and then I came across that thread title from a giddy scouser, and then a meltdown, then a lot of piss taking.

Light hearted Tuesday evening reading.

Arsenal, Sunderland, city, Stoke fans all backing the ban and fine, some even reckon he should get a harsher punishment.

Surprised they haven't banned you yet on RAWK.

I recommend an 8-post ban for Pete & Mr Dreams. :D

Anyway, it seems there's little to no press support for Liverpool's stance, let alone the opinions of some LFC supporters:

The adjudicating panel was led by QC Paul Goulding but it is hard not to believe that he received powerful underpinning from his colleague Denis Smith.

A magnificent centre-half for Stoke, and a manager who knew both success and failure, Smith went into the hearing under the bizarre suggestion that an old professional connection with Sir Alex Ferguson's son, Darren, might make him a less than impartial arbiter. For anyone who knew him, the theory might have been etched crudely in crayon rather than tweeted. Indeed, Smith's long, injury-strewn but superbly indefatigable involvement in the hard end of professional football made him eminently qualified to note the difference between nuances of language, and intention, and the realities of serious provocation and insult.

Even so the long days of deliberation suggest a near forensic examination of the claims and counter-claims.

An emphatic stand against racism in English football - The Independent

I've just read the Liverpool statement.
I can't believe they're still trying to take pot shots at Evra, and they're using the Sepp Blatter defence by trying to associate him with black friends/players etc.

What on earth were they thinking? I'm almost embarrassed for them!

Very impressed by the almost universal opinion of Pool Fc and their fans by Sunderland fans --- spot on

I'm genuinely interested to know what the sensible 'pool fans think of this. You'd imagine at least some Liverpool fans are aware everyone is mocking their crackpot libellous statement. The ones who proclaimed it the greatest thing written since John Lennon died have been left with little choice but to champion it like fecking loons, but I'm sure there are some that see it as the RAWKish paranoid rant it is?

I'm interested if any of our resident scousers will come and say anything classy as compared to the idiocy of LFC.
