He won the Denzel Haroun award but wasn't really deserving of it, in my opinion.
Ekangamene, James, Wilson all definitely had better years than him, and Rothwell and Pearson are better players than him (albeit completely different positions.)
In terms of the right back spot, personally I think Varela is clearly better. Janko lacks positional sense, and isn't as good technically, it's just his immense stature that dominates at this age but I don't think it will in the senior team.
Varela seems to be the carbon copy of Rafael; technically very sound, makes pacy runs overlappping the winger, is extremely good in he build up play and plays with immense passion and flair. If he hadn't have had such a disturbed season I think he may have been knocking on the first team door in Giggsy's games in charge.
