Is Pochettino's time at Spurs coming to an end?

He has played a blinder: get sacked by spurs and get tons of cash while still being seen as good enough to get the United and Madrid job.

I'd say Eddie Howe and Nuno Espirito Santo will be the two guys Spurs will be keeping tabs on as Pochettino's replacement. Both are capable of stepping up to a bigger job, and both would likely be happy to work with a modest budget.

People need to calm down. Pochettino isn't getting fired. He has one embarrassing cup exit a season. It just came a bit early this year.

More than likely Spurs will rally and have a competitive second half of the season and all of this will be forgotten.

I think he will be given time, and I do think he has a chance to steady it, it would have to be incredibly bad for Levy to pull the trigger.
I would agree with your view from my perspective, but I went with a light-hearted comment on the situation and used @balaks(?) view that he might get the sack as the basis for it.

I can't see him get sacked, but if he did get the sack then he would be in a good position personally as he has the name to get a great job and get a good amount of cash as well.

Don’t you think he hasn’t been backed enough by his chairman in terms of funds and getting players he is asking for?

No idea? Do you? We don't have the revenue to fight it out with yourselves, City, Liverpool etc for players, he knew that when he arrived. He talked openly about doing things in a different way etc, he was backed this summer with what I would say were his choices. Our bad run of form this season has very little to do with backing its more to do with a shit style of play, throwing away leads, strange starting line ups and strange substitutions. I mean look at yourselves, spent massive amounts and are in the same boat as we are.

Meh I'm not a massive fan of him TBH. I prefer Davies, but its the best of a bad bunch, I think the fact it was Watford that were in for him says it all.

No I know but the fact he's your first choice and was seemingly being offered away (and how you've had to backtrack and keep him, let alone make him a key player again) is obviously not great.

I mean throughout you can see why things aren't right behind the scenes. It all looks a bit rotten.

I hope you are right but I just can't see it.

The whole thing is, but trying to make the best of it

Well I'm also trying to be optimistic and I love Poch but we have to acknowledge the club looks in a bad way at the moment and it's clear the players are no longer willing to run through walls for him. There is only one thing that will fix it and unfortunately it will be a new manager. I'd rather they just do it as soon as possible rather than have to suffer this for the rest of the season.

That’s fair enough mate. I don’t watch Spurs as often as you so you would know much more what’s happening over there. Those strange lineups and substitutions you are talking about sound like what Jose did in his final weeks at United - sabotage. I hope it’s not true though, Poch is better than that

Depends who? We have no obvious caretaker, no one is free only who Allegri who has any real pedigree behind him but is he a good fit and would he even be interested? Who else are we looking at, Howe? Santo? Jose? Christian Gross is available, I cant see any manager with a job leaving them so soon in a season.

strange goings on over there. He done so well when not given any funds in transfer market, then when he has been, he looks poor. I think he has eyes on that Real job. Funny thing is he could go to Real and do shite, get sacked after 1 season and come back to PL and top teams would still be lining up for him. I don't think he sees this season out with Spurs.

Well perhaps that would change if they knew the Spurs job was available - it's a pretty attractive job and one of the best in Europe.

It is hard to maintain the motivation and focus of your players year after year when you are a club in Spurs' position.

At a midtable club, nobody has any illusions about winning the league or doing exceptional things. Its just about getting the players to be professionals, have some pride, and also to play hard for their own career reasons.

At a club that is truly in contention for the title or has been recently, you can get the best effort out of players by appealing to their competitive instincts. Winning big trophies is what they've dreamed of all their lives. Now go get it!

But at a club like Spurs, it is hard. You can achieve very impressive things by convincing your players that they have a shot to be a title contender and realize their dreams as long as they commit themselves to the cause. And this is what Poch managed to do for a few years: I think he had his players truly believing that they could win the league and beat anyone if they played their kind of football. But when evidence starts to pile up that its just not going to happen, and when some of the leading players make it obvious to everybody else in the dressing room that they don't believe in this dream anymore and are looking to leave, its really hard to keep everybody giving 100% every match and maintaining focus. This is a problem that Arsenal fans obviously know well. How do you keep top players that want to be the best and win everything truly committed and focused when everybody knows they're not really title contenders and that its very very likely that the "top four trophy" is all they'll end up with at the end of the year?

I was reading this thread and wondering what has actually gone wrong at Spurs. Your post is a good explanation as to why Spurs have dropped off.

On another note, i think hes off come summer tbh. Utd or Madrid will have him.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: Colchester.

The absolute hilarity

It's weird how a fan of Chelsea, who are below us in the league and off to a worse start in the CL (Valencia at home ) are giving it large.

We've been a disgrace this season and we're still doing better than you, because at least our cup disaster came in the league cup. Lampard's probably going out in the groups and finishing 7th, but you lot will still applaud because it's Franky.

Ah its ok mate, he will be off abusing some poor fellow, who isn't white, on a train somewhere right about now.

Imagine getting Pochetino as coach and acquiring the following four players Tonali (DM), Sancho (RW), Maddison (AM) and Werner (CF). What a team we could put up then...

Would you want him as Utd manager?

Why not ?

There are so many examples of managers being plucked from obscurity abroad (Poch being one) who manage to overcome the language barrier and becomes successes. Was Poch really performing any better than Howe is now when Southampton got him ? Why not go for someone accustomed to the PL, speaks the lingo. He’s ready made.

I'm at the stage now that what I feel we need is a proven winner as manager - we need somebody with experience who can bring this team on and get us winning things. Howe is not that person.

Klopp has his heart set on Bayern. My bet is, he'll be at Bayern within the next 3 seasons.

Evidence of this? Don't get me excited for nothing else "I WILL FIND YOU AND I WILL..." :D

Santo has been found out & is just a negative coach who puts everyone behind the ball, then breaking on the counter. Clubs are wise to this, & unless the top ones, sit back themselves, & Wolves are clueless in breaking them down. Can imagine Eddie Howe though, as he is in the attacking mold type of manager Spurs like.

Probably the best manager we can appoint going by the age of our players and Poch's quality.
