Players from Racing Santander refused to play in Thursday evening’s Copa Del Rey clash with Real Sociedad after failing to be paid for a number of months.
Earlier in the day the playing staff released a statement insisting they would boycott the match unless president Angel Lavin (pictured above) and his board stepped down immediately.
“If at 2100 (CET) the Racing board is the same as now, they will not play,” said Association of Spanish Footballers (AFE) chief Luis Rubiales.
“The squad decided something last Monday which they made public, and they continue thinking exactly the same, that if the current board has not resigned by the time of the game they are not going to play. They have the complete backing of the AFE, as always.”
After completing the warm-up the players – along with the club’s coaching staff – stood arm in arm and refused to get involved as Lavin and his board had not stepped down.
Sociedad passed the ball amongst themselves before kicking it out for a throw-in. At that point the referee suspended the game.
Racing Santander have suffered two consecutive relegations and are current languishing in the third tier of Spanish football.

But.. Barca never get... penalties.2-2 Messi penalty for a handball that looked more like it hit the shoulder.
I didn't see the Barca-Valencia game just the highlights show last night. That was a big win for Valencia, it could boost their confidence a lot. However they're 14 points behind Athletic who play tonight so 4th is probably already out of reach. I think they'll be relieved to get a Europa place now.
It's Barca's first defeat in La Liga at home in nearly 2 years, the last one was against Real Madrid. So how did it happen, it looked as if they had the game under control in the first half and were coasting to another win. Then came that 44th minute equaliser from Valencia and it all went downhill. 2-1 down and the ref gave them a (wrongly awarded) penalty, because all refs are Madrid fans.
3-2 down and the crowd grew restless and Barca looked steadily more hesitant. They still had chances to save it, most obviously with Messi late on, but the second half really belonged to Valencia. Dani Alves complained about the crowd after the match and made a comment about how Barca could have scored more - maybe his comments about the defenders were edited out.
Traditionally when the leading team lose points one day, the following teams do the same the next day. Atletico have been grinding out results this season, an amazing thing to say about a team that's been bizarrely inconsistent for a couple of decades, so maybe they can break that tradition too, though Real Sociedad aren't a bad team either. Real Madrid have a tough away at Athletic, normally you'd say a draw there for them would be a good result, but not this year.
Should be an interesting day in La Liga. Therefore both games will probably be crap![]()
I love you jojo.
Griezman will score the winner for Sociedad tonight and then a brace from Ron and one from Bale will secure us top of the table in a 0-3 away win, watch this space.
Oh, I knew that offcourse.Could be tricky to get that one from Bale, he's injured and didn't travel to Bilbao.

See you're sticking to the facts, as you see them of course. Well played.
Jesus, and they say us Real fans are spoiled? You lost 2 games in 22, hardly a disastrous season so far...See you're sticking to the facts, as you see them of course. Well played.
Not a shocking defeat, you could see there have been cracks in the way the team has been playing for some time, especially since the winter break. However, it was definitely one of the worst performances I've seen from the team in several years...at home, no less. Credit to Los Che, they never gave up and continued to wait for their chances and took them well enough. Feghouli was MOTM, for me, but strong performances across the squad.
Don't think I've seen more misplaced passes, turnovers and lack of precision/intensity in one match in a lonnng time - even Leo looked to be going through the motions for long stretches of the match. Something is not quite right in the squad, Tata has big issues to resolve

At least we don't sound like we're going to have a panic attack at the first glimpse of losing that first spot, right? No, RM fans can't possibly be spoiled with the most expensive squads ever put together. Not prone to exaggerations either equating 'big issues to resolve' to disastrous.
He does like to shoot from miles away.Could be tricky to get that one from Bale, he's injured and didn't travel to Bilbao.

You're usually posting on here with your pants around your ankles when talking about "Leo" and co but all of a sudden your team is having major issues? Give me a break.
Do I need to remind you that you are still leaders? If you have issues I don't want to think what the rest of the league has.
Christ, I thought this place was bad in terms of complaining.
One freak loss, one - and it's massive issues in the squad? Give me a fecking break!
