Luka Modric / Signs for Real Madrid

Nah, not really, I've nothing against you, I'm just waiting for the day you find anything remotely negative about your club and become objective when discussing them. No matter what THFC do, it's dandy, Arry is a genius, sun shines out of Levy's arse, got the bestest players at the bestest club in London etc, try giving it a rest before you bitch about people having an agenda against your agenda(again highlighted by your bumping of this thread because you feel the need to tell everyone you are right about yet another THFC issue). If you wanted to just pass on news of Sandro's deal, bump the thread about that player not a thread dedicated to Modric just so's you can tell us all "told you so" about Spurs being able/unable to retain or attract the top players.

Palacios was a squad player towards the end of his time at Spurs, Parker has been brought in as much more than that and you know it. What with Sandro being injured, Parker being the marquee signing of your summer, and Modric being as good as you say he is, I'll bet that Sandro is the biggest loser in the whole sorry saga of holding onto the unhappy Modric and buying a 31 year old, overrated, flavour of the month player.

Dress it up all you like, Friedel, Parker, and gobshite aren't going to get you to where you aspire to be or where Harry says you should be(challenging for the title apparently:lol:), nor is Walker who although has potential, probably won't even be 1st choice RB. You may see Walker and some of the young players that you've signed bear fruit in the future but they won't deliver CL this season nor will they in future unless you have better summers than this one which despite your protests to the contrary, has been a poor one for Spurs, especially in the context of what the other club's around you have done.
I have never claimed that Spurs "have the bestest players" except to say that in some positions we have players who are up there alongside the best in Prem. Nor have I ever claimed that Spurs are the "bestest club in London".

I have also criticised Harry and the club in several respects. For example, Harry for being a motor-mouth to often damaging effect and for bringing Keane back from Liverpool. I have also, for further example, said that signing Bentley was a costly mistake (and expressed my doubts about signing him at the time) and that Jol was badly treated.

But you don't wish to register any of this, preferring instead it seems to try and put your words in my mouth.

Beyond all this I make no bones about supporting Spurs, who IMO have done pretty well (since Levy took the helm) in at least staying in touching distance of a top 4 place (despite there being two sugar daddy clubs and three other clubs whose income greatly exceeds that of Spurs) ... and showing that we are capable of doing well in the CL.

As for Parker, yes he is much less of a squad player than Palacios, but this doesn't mean that Sandro is going to be frozen out. For a start he's just been offered (and accepted) a new 5 year contract, and secondly there may well be many games in which both Parker and Sandro will play together in a 3-man CM, alongside Modric for example.

You say that Parker is just a "flavour of the month player". Well, actually he was voted player of the season, which covers a number of months I believe ... and that was despite playing for a team that got relegated.

You also say this summer has been poor for Spurs "especially in the context of what the other club's around you have done". I say: Arsenal have lost their two best players (and several others besides), Chelsea have failed to get Modric and ended up instead with a "Plan C or D" player and Liverpool have spent a fortune to hit-and-miss effect.

You just don't sell your two best players at the same time. It sends the wrong message and no matter of the circumstances it's badwil and bad business.

It will take Arsenal many many years to become a force again.

They werent a force before either. Feel free to disagree if you want to but I think they'll do fine with the players they got in and although as before, wont trouble Chelsea, United or City, they'll be right up there after that.

I feel sorry for spurs. They have suffered due to shitty's takeover, if that hadn't happened then they would probably have been in the top 4 above Liverpool and made it consistent

I believe that objective observers would disagree. Arsenal have emerged as worthy and likely competitors in terms of competition for the PL- title in recent years IMO. A slightly thinner squad, a not-so-good manager, margins and a not fully well-developed winning culture appears to be the difference.

I agree that Arsenal no longer stands out as a winning candidate. This, as Fabregas and Nasri have been pillars of their game. Unless Wenger change his practice and violates his principles; It will probably take some time before we see Arsenal back on the same level.

I prefer to beat Arsenal at their full strength so I wish them luck!

On topic:
I hope Villas-Boas fail his attempt to sign Modric. Modric is made for Manchester United IMO

This is not too bad! And I would argue that Arsenal have played a good and entertaining game during these years. We might disagree. But, I believe that most people will share my view that Arsenal have emerged as a worthy and likely competitor in terms of competition for the PL- title in recent years.

Gladstone's unique. All of the Spurs fans I know are the polar opposite. They could beat Chelsea 5-0 at the Bridge and it'd be "wont last though will it, you watch we'll go and lose 1-0 to Wolves next weekend".

And to be fair...

Glaston's not that unique. There are plenty of united supporting posters here who post with a huge united bias whose every word has a huge lack objectivity. While its fine to adore the club and be thankful for everything about it, its a tad annoying when people are more concern about how they're viewed as fans rather than speaking their mind honestly.

You sir, hit the nail on the head. well said

Just noticed the change in the thread title...leaves the way open for us and I don't suppose we'll need to pay him £250K per week either.

Spuds will inflate his price to us, but that's a given...

ohh yeah, I realize now that bloody might be pushing the profanity limits a bit.

Do as I say not as I do :nervous:

Spurs aren't in a poor position to be fairly strong over the season. But, this Modric saga and all the late sales and buys have certainly not done them any favors. You simply can't deny the importance of having a settled team that's had a good pre-season for starting your campaign.

Spurs have good players but, because they've already shot themselves in the foot by starting the season slow - they handicap themselves to getting into CL places. Then once again next summer their best players will want to go elsewhere if they don't make it and once again they'll fail to entice top talent because of lack of CL football.

This buying/selling late seems to be the norm for them and who is to blame for that? Levy. He's given Spurs a chance to eventually be competitive with the best of them but, he's done them no favors by letting them start the season with so many unknowns.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has revealed he had no idea chairman Daniel Levy had offered a new contract to Sandro.

The Brazil midfielder was rewarded for his first full season at the club by penning a new five-year deal on Thursday.

The first thing Redknapp knew about it, the 64-year-old revealed on Friday, was when he saw it announced on television.

"I was pleased to see that on Sky Sports News last night. It was good," Redknapp said.

"I never had a clue. I was pleased to see it but I didn't know anything about it."

Redknapp insists he is happy to see the 22-year-old commit his future after Barcelona and Roma were linked with the player this summer.

He is also happy to let Levy take charge of negotiations and admitted he has little involvement in talks over new deals.

"I don't get involved in that really," he said. "The chairman deals with that.

"Managers don't get involved any more in negotiations. It's been like that for years and years, which is fine.

"I have enough on my plate worrying about picking teams and working with the players. Daniel loves doing that so he gets on with that."

Obviously Redknapp wanted to keep Sandro so that one turned out alright. But what would have happened if when Redknapp was trying to offload Crouch one evening, and then wakes up the following morning to find he's signed a new five year deal?

I think it's cute that Levy is now deciding who is performing on the pitch and who is likely to continue doing so in future. He may as well start picking the team.

Redknapp is leaving to take the England job in the summer. Levy is looking after his cub by keeping Sandro. I think Moyes will be given the job and Everton will start to slide from next season.

Yep, I've said before Moyes will surely put his hat in the ring when the Spurs position becomes available. It's the best spot he can realistically hope for.

Competitors would have won or looked like winning the title. Arsenal have bottled it every time and its been very predictable that they wont be winning the league, for a long long time.

They'll continue in the same vein with their new side. Just like before Nasri and Fabregas left, Arsenal are a good 2 or 3 top players from challenging

Redknapp will be gone within 10 months imo. In jail, in the England job or been moved on by Levy.

I'm glad Levy still looks after the finances, he's proved excellent at it in the past and if it was down to Redknapp, he'd have sold Modric for 20 million at the beginning of the window and brought in 3/4 'triffic players'.

The man doesn't understand when to shut up in the media. Its embarrassing.

I dunno, I get the impression that Harry is increasingly pointing the finger at Levy in media interviews, perhaps in order to appear blameless if Spurs have a bad season.

I really don't see this happening. Certainly not for anywhere near that much money.

He's just not worth it. The figures that get thrown around these days are stupid.

Next season they could easily lose Bale, Modric, VDV, Adebayor AND Redknapp though. I'd be worried about not getting top 4 if I was a Spurs fan.

yeh right, Carrick for Modric + £10M....:wenger:

http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/footba...urs-carrick-and-cash-for-modric-transfer-talk

Tottenham may have an interesting transfer offer to consider if talk swirling round Upton Park yesterday is accurate.

The rumour mill suggests Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is trailing Croatia star Luka Modric and is prepared to send Michael Carrick back to White Hart Lane plus £10million to land the Spurs playmaker.
Modric has been a key component in Tottenham's flying start to the new campaign and although he is a quality player, Carrick is hardly a like-for-like replacement.
Redknapp certainly has the resources in his squad to replace Modric but it would not be up the same standard and it is unlikely he would accept the offer and it hard to believe this transfer has a chance of going through.

So why bother reporting it then?

Nothing to see here folks..

From what he has said he would rather join Chelsea

Chelsea that won't even be in Champions League? Things have changed since last Summer, Chelsea can't even be considered as better than Tottenham anymore and they used to be thought of as a different level.

We wont spend 40mil on any one player i feel. To add to that, levy being levy might not even sell him for that much.

here we go again.....

why people even bother reading this media garbage is beyond me, if United sign a player we will know about it when the club tells us.

I would go up to £40m for him, but that would be it. Very few players as capable as Modric in the CM role in a 4-4-2, and who aren't specialised AMs or DMs. Furthermore he could provide the cover we need on the wings and in the hole. One player who fixes several problems in the team, allowing us to cut the deadwood and trim the squad a bit.

He probably is worth it. And Exactly what we need.. Would still need to buy a creative spark however.

I think this will all come down to whether spurs qualify for CL & if harry takes up the england job. Then there will be a good chance of him leaving. £40m is too much for a player who does not score enough goals.

He's a good player, but 40m? I don't think so. I bet we could get a couple of decent midfielders for that much. Let the scouts do their jobs.

One thing I'm not sure about is whether he's got the temperament to do it during the crunch time of the season. It might be a collective Spurs thing, but I haven't seen Modric exerting much influence over their last couple months of form. Is he a fair-weather sort of player or am I being harsh?

You are being harsh.
