Manchester United vs Real Madrid

You will probably win the game because if the first leg was anything to go by, you were the superior team.

Dropping Rooney is a really bizarre move though - if you win, it's not going to be some tactical masterstroke, but just an indication that you don't him to beat what's in front of you.

There is also an argument being bandied about that Rooney is consistently poor in big games, and Ferguson has got tired of it, but it's not necessarily one I share.

Sorry but for the work Rooney puts into the team, especially for big games like this, i really can't understand why he's been left out. Instead we'll watch Nani be a lazy feck and try and be a hero about 100 times.

Does it even matter if he ends up being the hero 1 of those times? Or do you want him sent packing?

Wow all optimism in this thread has been drained, nerves destroying people here.

I am not worried about Rooney not in, RVP and Welbeck can score goals, but Nani, not so sure how much of tracking back he will do.

Yep. Whereas I thought the selection at the Bernebeu was bold and made sense, this one is weak and baffling.

It's hardly weak. It's one player off(Giggs for Rooney) what alot of people would have had as our strongest eleven. I don't agree with it as I think we are marginally weaker than Madrid player for player anyway but Fergie will have his reasons and home advantage is a huge help.

Not sure if Fergie simply thinks this is the best team to get the job done tonight or if he is trying to light a flame up Rooney's arse at a crucial point at the season.

Either way I still have faith in the XI we have out.

There's a lot of negativity on here now but imagine if Giggs actually scores... Old Trafford would go mental. What an iconic football moment that would be. One can only dream.

Hopefully Rooney comes on with a point to prove when he gets subbed on and is at his best. Just don't understand the point in not starting him.

good luck for the games guys (obviously I mean it in a sporting kind of way ...)..hope the game turns out to be as good as we all expect.

Ronaldo is going to feck this line up to bits. You heard it first here, no hope.

All this talk of Giggs, it's Nani who's the one I'm worried about tonight, unless he's on the left. Even then he's come back after a long injury and looked promising but back to being good enough to start this kind of match?

I would have prefered Rooney starting but some of the comments on here are baffling, you bunch of fannys.

Rooney record in big games is very good. I have not heard anyone put forward he is weak in big games. Aside from the City performance last year and the entire team was poor then I can't think of many big games when I have thought he was well below par.

feck Superman, Sir Alex is the man of steel.

How the feck is Van Persie, Welbeck, Nani and Giggs playing DEFENSIVE? Are you on crack?

Some of you are fecking embarrassing.

Who says Giggsy playing ahead of him? Maybe Welbeck is central, and on the evidence of the Bernabeu he has every right to. We'll have to wait and see, Rooney still has a massive part to play in this game.

Whether it be central or on the left drifting in, Rooney should start ahead of giggsy.

I do wonder if its Fergie being canny. They're aware of the threat Rooney poses and they'll have spent hours and hours looking at how to stop him. Now we've got different attacking options in Van Persie, Nani, Giggs and Welbeck and they don't know how we will shape up and who we will look to channel through.

He's a hell of an option to come off the bench.

The fact you are all biting on what I am saying makes me so happy

How is it none of you lot understand me by now:lol::confused:

He's the best right winger at the club, and probably the most in form winger also.

I don't mind Giggs starting to be honest, I'd rather have Rooney in for Welbeck and move Giggs to the wing. Welbeck was decent in the first leg, and got the goal of course but I feel we should have gone for Rooney behind RVP.

Nervous as feck right now.

One of our two world class players in on the bench.

The more I think about it, the more bizarre it gets.

LOL fergie is a feckin legend,

all mouinho's planning just turned to suit. Rooney on after 60 mins, we're gonna shaft these fascist counts!!!

Yep, should have started hernandez over RVP too. Mourinho would have torn his hair out.

Nani--------------Welbeck
---------Giggs----------
----------RVP-----------

Giggs is there to thread the throughballs which might just decide the tie.

Betwetters of the world unite.

People seem to think we will be fine for 60 minutes though. Who's to say when Rooney does come on in the second half that we aren't already 3 goals down? You start with your best players, even more so when there in form. fecking bizarre move this.
