Juventus haven't given up on Manchester United's Paul Pogba - Sport Witness

We thought it was over, that the Pogba circus had been packed up and the player could now concentrate on his football. He played for the first team at the weekend in the victory against West Brom and then turned out for the reserves against Blackburn Rovers last night - a game in which he impressed.

Surely the rumours would now stop? Well, no. On our daily trawl through the Italian press we've found two stories which suggest Juventus haven't given up on signing the player. Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio told Italy's Sky Sports "Juventus is always first in line for Pogba" and on reports that he'd signed a new Manchester United contract "It's always rumours."

Another journalist, Cristina Guerri has today said on Calciomercato that the English press are premature to say Pogba is staying in England and there is a still a strong possibility of him joining Juventus in June. Their scenario is that Manchester United have offered a new contract but that Pogba will still turn it down and go to Turin, saying negotiations are at an advanced stage.

It's almost turning into a custody battle between the Italian and English press. Those who have been following Paul Pogba and are frustrated by the lazy references to him as 'the next Patrick Vieira' will chuckle when they hear the Italian press do it too!

As ever, if and when anything else happens we'll let you know

Giggs can be a class act.

Carrick is a good player on form.

Giggs is a class act but when we are talking about central midfield, which we were, he's not a "Class Act" in comparison with european CM's and Carrick is a much much better CM.

Whether Scholes re-retires you and I don't know.

Anderson is a very talented player. He needs to fullfil it and stay fit. Whether he gets the chance to do that at United, I don't know. I expect him still to be at OT next season though.

In my opinion, we need no more than 4 midfielders, in addition to Jones and hopefully Pogba.

We know Carrick, Cleverley and Giggs will be here next season. No indications that Anderson are going anywhere. And hopefully at least one from Fletcher and Scholes will be available.

I'd personally scratch Jones off the list of midfielders and Scholes is a big unknown but it still doesn't mean the midfield cannot get strengthened.
You advocate the signing of a winger (Bale) which would be more of a luxury than a real need in central midfield.

Fergie said somewhere we are about 2 players away from where Barcelona are.

I am thinking he is talking about midfielders.

I doubt Barca are better than us in defence with the options we have there. Same with forwards.

It's as much about cohesiveness as quality. They play almost one single unit with different parts whereas pretty much every other team is a collection of individuals trying to play in unison. In fact, that's what struck me big time about our early season form. We were incredibly cohesive. The players looked liket they magically all landed up on the same wavelength at the same time. That, for me, is our best bet to match them. Of course you need the players to do it as well but I don't think we're all that far off in that respect.

Defense, with Vidic back I think we tip it but we win it massively in potential.

Midfield they win hands down.

Forwards is close but the fact they have Messi means they win it for me.

Rooney, Welbeck, Hernandez, Berbatov, Valencia, Nani and Young

vs

Messi, Villa, Pedro, Sanchez, Afellay, Tello

It's actually hard to seperate and in depth we might win it but as I said, any frontline that has Messi at it's disposal has to be regarded as better than anything else, surely?!

I realise I'm probably missing someone in attack and some people might count Iniesta but I've counted him in midfield.

We match or beat most of the big teams with our attackers but Barca? Ludicrous. Messi IS a forward after all

How likely are we to see another Best? My guess is we wont again. Thats the case with Messi. He is a one off.

But we definitely can match them in midfield with a couple of players..that what I believe Fergie was saying.

Little bit of an exaggeration, surely?

maybe a little, I meant more the technique and accuracy of the vollied pass. It was fantastic technique.

Im sure I heard Blackburn are yet to win a home game this season in the reserves. Hardly a fair comparison is it?

Why does the quality of the opposition diminish the quality of his technique in the pass? Blackburn were dogged and defended with numbers, could just as easily say United were down to ten and chasing the game so they gave Silva a ton of space but you dont because it was great skill anyway.

I agree with you but at the same you cannot separate Messi from the forwards. He's part of their team

True. But he is dependent on the players around him.

Barcelona are not unplayable with Messi. If so they and Argentina would win every match he is in.

As it was with Best, Pele and Maradona.

Their strength is when not just Messi but the other players. At least two other players are pretty darn close to the player with the ball. To play like that you need players who can get and hold the ball.

They attack and defend as a unit...and they can do that without any noticable lack of cohession.

We saw some of that type of play from us early in the season. That 'ideal' is not impossible even if we dont have a Messi.

Their fullbacks are better than ours, so is their keeper, their midfield and their forwards. Our central defence shits on theirs though.

Well having watched the full match last night and having watched lots of Pogba since he arrived Ive seen him perform a lot better than that last night.....I didnt quite get the Silva reference....although It is nice to see people getting behind the lad after the last few weeks....

124 pages on a youngster who hasn't even made 10 appearances in the first team. The cnut better be worth it with all this fuss 3 or 4 years down the road

5 games....all as sub. This thread is beyond stupid.

I am sure he will be a cracking player but if he was extra special he would be in the side by now

Yeah because 19 year olds usually play regularly at english clubs fighting for the title

Posts like this aren't exactly making the thread shorter, you know. I'd guess there's at least two pages of posts from people moaning about the length of this thread. There's also quite a few pages containing the "weak or not" midfield discussion, a few pages discussion agents in football and a few pages of posts simply saying "Raiola is a cnut". In short, there's shit loads of pages which has nothing to do with Pogba, but is here anyway for one reason or another. It's also basically a transfer thread anyway, and you know how it goes - the same rumour is usually discussed ten times and such.

Stop acting all innocent you've bee involved as much as anyone else.

Happy Birthday Paul :)

I really like the maturity in his play for a youngster in the 1st team.
I mean some other young players want too much in the first games with spectacular passes or shots.

Btw i hate that new Premier League badge on the TV!!!

This is my 3rd post in the Pogba thread. I win

yep agree that the whole situation is crazy and a sad sign of how things have changed.

He can go be fecked if he is demanding 40K. And how this thread has generated 81 pages is nuts too.
You were involved.

More likely than not to get some minutes tomorrow, probably will come on if we can't turn it around. Hopefully being involved with the first team squad at such a crucial stage of the season will convince him to stay. Also his brother playing at Wrexham and his family likely settled here has to help us somewhat, hope he sees sense and signs the contract before ditching Raiola.

He has signed the deal i really have no doubts anymore.

Its all too coincidental that rumours saying he had signed for us sprung, then quickly got quietened down.

Then all of a sudden hes back on the first team bench and then coming on as soon as we hit the 2-0 mark.

The italian press are clutching to straws but i reallly see no worry here.

If pogba had said he is leaving and signing for juve, do you REALLY think we would be including him in first team games and european games? feck no.

Im sure behind the curtains he has signed or agreed to sign, and they just are not letting on to the press yet.

Why would they do that? He was initially booed by some at the weekend and if the club came out and confirmed the deal they could let Pogba get on with developing. There is no reason why the club needs to withhold that information, I don't think anything's signed at the moment.

Yeah. There´s no deal. No reason to keep quiet if there was. At the very least his agent would be shouting about the amazing contract with United his brilliant negotiating had earned.

It's a hard situation to understand from the outside.

We completely dropped him for a couple of weeks and he wasn't involved at any level, but now he's involved a lot and training again. Was he injured for the two weeks? Who knows. Perhaps we dropped him to see if that worked and now we are giving him loads of game time to try a different approach.
