I know Evans was out a while, but he was bloody atrocious. Not the only one mind. Valencia, Blind and Jones (got lost at left back) were well below par, and Fellaini wasn't great either.

Falcao done alright with the ball when he got involved though.

We certainly limped over the line that's for sure but like a few have said already, take SEVEN starting players out of the Arsenal, Chelsea and City side and watch them take on a spirited Palace away from home. I bet they'll struggle just as much as we did today.

Credit to the team and to Louis van Gaal.

Excellent result. Just need Chelsea to not lose tomorrow and it's job done.

Truly pathetic imho. How a club with such massive commercial and financial power can field so many average players speaks volumes about our policies. For many years now, and this includes the end of the Fergie era, we have done very poorly at signing good, talented players. We need to take a long, hard look at our scouts and the worldwide system that should be in place with such a glut of resources at our disposal. We also need a manager who can actually form a team and not just some guys with big names on their backs. LVG has earned the right to stay another season with our most likely top 4 finish now, but if we spend again like we did last summer, which all the signs point to, then these sorts of displays should not be tolerated.

Little bit of over-reaction. I thought we just about done enough to win a grotty away game 3 games from the end of the season. Bit of luck with Palace's finishing having an off day.

3 valuable points.

Fergie is a living legend to me BUT he has to take a large part of the blame with spending little and buying average in his last few seasons.
We now have to spend hundreds of millions over what will be a few transfer windows, just to try and get back to the top.

Good start. Everything else was terrible. Couldn't care less at this stage. We just need top 4 and I'm sure we will kick on from there next season.

If we get a decent side to best...like Valencia, Napoli or Sevilla we may struggle.
Why? We play better against good teams and besides, we'll spend another 100m at least this summer so I wouldn't worry.
Put Carrick, a fully fit Rooney, Depay, Di Maria, Clyne, Hummels, Gundogan, Rojo and whoever else all as options to get in the team.. We're going to have a very strong team next season IMO, and right now the main thing holding us back is injuries to key players and not having the back up to replace them which is what we'll sign over the summer.

Decent result considering most of our good players were injured.

God, we needed a that win. That being said, it was a shit performance with a worrying lack of enthusiasm and intensity. We even let Palace have a proper go at an equalizer after scoring our second. It's so frustrating when the team doesn't show fighting spirit when we have to mop up as many points as possible to secure top 4.

Even if De Gea fecks off back to Madrid I'd be willing to give him a wristy as a parting gift. After games like these he feels like the difference between CL football and a relegation dogfight.

I think this is the first time my average rating has been below the caf's average rating. It's ridiculous how much lower the rating was for the West Brom game, when we clearly played better then than we did today. But apparently a win = higher ratings regardless of performance.

We are not fielding loads of average players, they are just not playing well, that is the difference. You cannot go from ripping the likes of spurs and city apart, and outplaying liverpool at anfield without having something about them, and this united squad can do it, the manager needs the weapons to really put on an assault next season. Adding the fact this squad keeps picking up injury's, that is really the pain of our season. If united can add 2 CB's, 1 RB, 2 CM players to go alongside the wide player we have signed, we can challenge for the title. But this season was all about finally getting past the final detoxing stages of the ugly back end of the declining Ferguson squad of 2009-13, which was dubbed value for money. And getting over the Moyes horror show, and finally getting back into that top 4, here the club finally starts the process of signing the top players we needed again. This was neglected allot of the time since CR7 was sold in 09, depay is a massive start. But many can see throughout the season, of all the good and bad of what has gone on since 09, and defiantly the bad of what we endured during the Moyes reign, and getting into that top 4 will give us the keys we need to see those must needed positions strengthened. If the club do that, and this club is a player again, its just all about buying the right players and we need 5

We played a very good first half, considering the injuries. Second half we shot ourselves in the foot, Palace changed to their game plan and we all know how dangerous they are versus any time when their crowd gets behind them. Some of the movement between Herrera and Mata once we had the game under control was beautiful. Young and Fellaini gave a lot of effort, especially after Fellaini's poor first half. Young is slowly becoming the winger we expected him to again. Overall very happy with the three points, the players looked over the moon as well during the celebration. Let's hope Liverpool feck up versus Chelsea and aim for third, you never know with Man City vs QPR, especially now that City have guaranteed top four. Same with Arsenal and Swansea, they are playing good football but Swansea isn't easy, if Arsenal drop points their I'm sure we will be well up for it versus them at OT.

Jones was very good today, Evans just doesn't seem to know what's happening around him. Felt bad for Shaw, but he needs to forget about this season, onwards and upwards. Gutted about Smalling also. Rooney was poor and should never have started the game. Falcao played better today, held the ball up and was in some good positions. Valencia was okay, but he can't stay first choice. DDG again saved us. The game needed a Gundogan type player with Herrera and it would have been a lot easier. But hey, 3 points!!

No we haven't ?

I think he's implying he thinks Chelsea won't lose tomorrow, which they shouldn't, but it sounds like Mourinho has given a few days off this week, hope they repay him with a performance.

That'll do. It's important to grind out results sometimes. Ash was excellent, Big Dave back to his dominant best and that was enough to secure a invaluable 3 points. Able to relax and enjoy the end of the season now.

Great post but I'd be surprised if we challenge seriously for the Title NEXT season.

More likely the year after is OUR YEAR, it'll be ON!! etc

Good teams have to win when they play badly that it was Chelsea do very well.Great result for us and champions league qualification almost secured.I'm much happier this week than I was last week when we played well and lost.

This team is going to be very very different next year.

Out of the team that finished the match I expect 2/3 to be in the starting 11 next year.

Its reality, we all know it deep down.
No we don't! Since when was Palace away deemed an easy should win game? Anyone with a bit of football sense knows it isn't and that you've done very well to come away with three points! Everyone is forgetting that Chelsea have stormed the league grinding out results like that.

That is the problem, you'd think it had never ever happened before.

There is no doubt Sir Alex is the best manager ever,i know we played certain way under SAF but we have some players with really low football IQ.Never seen in my life a team with high possession of the ball to look more tired then those chasing that same ball, thats amazing,Smalling for example sees space between lines then he make a sprint run with a ball for like X yards, then stops and pass ball back for same length...

Good post. This kind of result is the key to winning the league. Yes we want to be Barca re Bayern or even Manchester United v. Liverpool, but this is the meat and drink a hard worked win against tough opposition away, with the sun in your eyes

Do most of our guys look anything but average for you? Sure, our "average" is better than most clubs, and so we limped to 4th. However, we have recently spent more money than anyone and have the highest wage bill in the league. In that light, they look average to me. Also, you just said we only need 5 more players on top of Memphis...so 6. That is after bringing in 6 last season. It sounds strikingly like you agree that we need massive changes.

Maybe we wont challenge for the title, who knows, losing DDG will set us back a year. VG must sign a RB, 2 CB's, and 2 CM players, if we do not? not a chance we will challenge, and all we can hope is a top 4. VG has been given 3 years, he's in year 1, he cannot plan 3 4 5 years, so the acceleration process must be swift and fast. If he wants to challenge for the title, our weak positions must be strengthened this summer, herrera depay fantastic players we will have for next season, if we can add 2 CM players to go alongside those guys, damn we could excite a few

Normally I don't reply to posts like these, but just... please. Give it a rest.
