Brilliant result. Was always going to be a tough one with the run we were on and our lack of goal threat, but in the end we pulled through. Just about.

To those complaining - it could have been worse as in 0 points as opposed to 3. I'm well happy with that. Sometimes you just have to grind these things out and considering injuries, virus etc to various players - we've done well to get those 3 points. A loss or a draw tomorrow for Pool should see 4th secure.

Also, having lost 3 games in a row, the pressure to win this game means you're bound to get a scrappy performance. So well happy here.

We need a backup for Carrick, Blind is hopeless as a DM. Very poor performance and that Fellaini goal Must be the most important goal his ever scored!

Who gives a flying fudge about the performance. We won. We know we will strengthen the squad over the summer. All that matters now is getting top 4 which I think we now have.

The big deal was that we fought through the game after conceding the equaliser and the spell of pressure from Palace.

After Rooney got injured and Palace scored their equaliser, our shoulders really seemed to drop. It looked like there would be no one to push us on from there and I feared the worst. But credit to the team, they held it together and fought on after that. It was great to see, and was a big take away.

Put Carrick, a fully fit Rooney, Depay, Di Maria, Clyne, Hummels, Gundogan, Rojo and whoever else all as options to get in the team.. We're going to have a very strong team next season IMO,

We already have the most expensive (and highest paid) team in the history of EPL - and your solution is to spend even more money? In other words, you want us to do the same thing we did last year, which didnt work?

At the start of the season, when we had Di Maria, Falcao, Rooney, RVP, Mata as our attacking front me, people were saying exactly what you were saying. Some suggested that this might be the best attack ever assembled in the EPL. They refered to us as "top heavy". People expected us to concede many goals, but score a lot. This has not happened.

I'd much rather we sign non-galactico players (or use youth players) and form a genius tactic which plays to their strengths. LVG did this at Ajaz, AZ and also Bayern. Even Barca.
I also what us to stop fielding players out of position - this is nullifying the skills of some of our players.

We're obviously going to spend money this summer. We've already wrapped up some cracking business in the form of Depay. The first team still needs serious work and the fact we will be spending heavily again has been the club's party line all season. It's justified, too. We want to win titles and at the moment we don't have the squad to achieve that.

I'm pleased with the three points, anyway. That's a really tough Palace team we beat today. It was probably our weakest performance in months, too, which shows how well we did to get over the line.

Something I like about this side is that every time it has come under some pressure to get a result, it does. Our team spirit is great to see.

The last few games have brought home to me how important the SAF 'gene' in the team still is. Carrick at the base of the midfield and WR up top. Wayne giving his team speeches. The two lads are the leaders now. Let's hope Carrick has another great season at least in him, and that Wayne is OK and holds on to his mojo. Still celebrating a great result today.

Close your eyes and imagine the ball skidded off the turf and DDG didn't manage that save. 2 - 1. We lose. Feel the pain?

really reminded me of the game away at Southampton - Palace deserved to win the game but ridiculous defending cost them the game........

really hope we can bring in a few players with leadership ability and able to fight hard in situations like this....

and God Bless David De Gea

Missed the game due to other obligations.

Sounds like it was the same old shite from the past few weeks, only difference being that we scored more than the other team - yes?

A minor thing but who got the armband after Smalling went off?

I was screaming like we had actually won a champions league final.

Me too

Getting straight back into the CL is so fecking important you won't believe it! Missing out again could have killed us for the next couple of years.

Sounds like I was lucky to be at work during this match. Went mental when I saw we won though as I was leaving!

Absolutely huge win. I'll be on for Chelsea tomorrow like they're United!

United fans after the final whistle.

Did anyone watch the Madrid vs Valencia - a very open game - how would this United side have got on out there, against either of them? We need one heck of a summer transfer window.

Really relieved to get the 3 points as there's a serious lack of bastards in that team. We used to be able to mix it up at places like Selhurst Park, Fergie would either glean more from the lesser lights or the characters (Bruce, Keane, Scholes, Robson etc) would stand up for themselves.

The likes of Valencia, Blind, Evans and Falcao just don't seem to have the balls to be 'proper' United players. The character of the incoming players should be of similar importance to their ability.

Been drinking jeres and Wine most of the Day; but i'm Prius of the Boys, haven't watched the match, but it's a good start to the way of the tops. mata and Fellaini with goals brilliant, good luck!

The quality isn't where it needs to be, but van Gaal has done an excellent job restoring the right mentality to the squad. Thankfully, last year looks like an aberration instead of a new normal. We would have rolled over and lost this one last year.

Im more disapointed that we once again got out of jail with a hoof ball to Fellaini, its just abit embarrasing. We were awful i thought in that second half and palace deserved more.

But at least we won.

Crosses are hoof balls now?

Or is any pass above knee height to Fellaini a hoof ball?

Job nearly done. Bring on August. Time for some trophies next season.

That's my view as well. We would be slapped by some of the better sides. Far too many average in this team.

Shit performance. But again the pressure was clearly on, and we managed to get the important result.

Regardless of the actual performance, I'm very happy to see that the old united 'spirit' of pulling a victory out of the jaws of defeat has returned this season. Many here have very very short memories of the dog shit served up under SAF in his final seasons. We often had performances of this level IMO.

Surprised nobody has linked this virus apparently kicking about with the laboured performance. LVG said pre match a lot of the players had been suffering some effects including him and his staff. I thought they did extremely well to go out and get the 3 points in the circumstances.

The pitch was a joke but is something we will no doubt have to get used to team doing against us. Very hard to play nice football on a terrible pitch which is why I am glad we have a team who can dig in when they have too.

Big win.

I am in really good humour this evening, so I am going to stay with this one. This football thing is a team sport, something built from a squad. The Premiership is a hugely difficult challenge, in a year when the team has a new manager and many new signings. Its a juggle, like rehearsing and performing in public simultaneously. Fourth - plus major team-building - would be a great achievement. As @Oneunited26 writes, there have been a lot of injuries. The 'average' thing sounds like a very glib judgement to me. Who are you talking about? Different players will always bring different qualities to the team. A lot depends, as we see in the case of Young, on how they are deployed. Not everyone can be a Fellaini, or a De Gea, or indeed a Leo Messi. Some people are remarkably good at various facets of the game. Manchester United are Manchester United. This club is not a cause. Some people will leave this summer. Some new people will come in. A lot of young lads are being let go by clubs as we speak, their dreams shattered, or at least badly dented after apprenticeships to the game. I don't particularly like talk of 'average' players. Such a thing as an 'average player' does not exist. I am a supporter of Manchester United. I am probably a fairly average example, actually. It's my job to get excited, to be inspired, to be disappointed. I generally don't speak in the same breath of 'big money' and 'average players'. It's not my money and its not my average.

Since you slandered me and called me glib, I, too, will bite. Who is average? Well, from our players that got time today I would say Valencia, Shaw, Evans, Blind, Fellaini, Rooney and Falcao. I think Mata and Herrera have ability, but look to play safe more than anything so don't always contribute more than to possession percentage. Young has moments but overall is not good enough. DDG has saved us yet again. If we are playing Barca and it is Messi clean through on goal, he scores every time. As a team, and as individuals, we are simply not good enough. Tactically, we look lost and naive. And to think I answered you without a personal slander.

Am I the only one who saw some potential in Falcao today? Was starting to look dangerous.

Should've been greedy. In one attack he had a chance to shoot but laid it off for Herrera. It wasn't a bad option to take but him shooting the ball was just as good an option. A striker should always be shooting the ball in a situation like that. Other than that he looked decent.
