Palace played well, I think they were buoyed by Rooney not coming back on but as far as a dreadful performance by us...i don't think so. Sure we had a few fortunate moments and last gasp saves but we weren't awful, palace really stepped their game up and we did well to contain them.

Normally I don't reply to posts like these, but just... please. Give it a rest.

Only want to read posts that resonate with your thoughts? Why be on these forums at all? My opinion is that we have been very poor for most of this season. I am very happy that top 4 SHOULD be wrapped up now, and it will help us attract more players to the cause. Still, the reality is that we are a good way off from competing for the PL title, and many levels below the likes of Barca, Real Madrid and Bayern. We need to be honest about our squad and expect more.

That pitch must have been one of the worst I've seen in the Premier League in recent times.

The ball was bobbling all over the bloody place.

Crap pitch, crap ref, crap Utd, great result!!! CL here we come...wahhhaaayyyyy!!!

It was torrid, but I don't care. I just want top 4 to be secured so we can move the feck on from this season. I'm confident next season will be much better.

Do most of our guys look anything but average for you? Sure, our "average" is better than most clubs, and so we limped to 4th. However, we have recently spent more money than anyone and have the highest wage bill in the league. In that light, they look average to me. Also, you just said we only need 5 more players on top of Memphis...so 6. That is after bringing in 6 last season. It sounds strikingly like you agree that we need massive changes.

You are forgetting the teams injury list is insane, you expecting top class performances when the squad has been hit with loads of injury's since the chelsea game, look at what this squad done when they stayed fit for 5 weeks, we run riot over city and spurs, and put on a fantastic performance at anfield, many thought we could beat chelsea at stamford bridge that is how far the team had got, so this team has something about them, they just need players who can play every week. If we replace carrick, get in a few defenders who can lead and stay fit, with 2 CM players to play alongside herrera, this team will get stronger. We already possibly solved our wingplay problem, and we still have di maria, so already our options outwide will be much stronger next season

I look at the bulk of the squad, we have a very good squad, the squad needs more meat on the bones to add to what we have got. The club has only started to spend big since January 2015, and we limped over the line to get fellaini in the summer 2014, who has become crucial getting that top 4. Before that we were spending peanuts, and it bit us on the backside pretty hard in 2013/14. We have added some top players, shaw, blind, herrera, di maria, mata, fellaini is very effective, especially in a squad rotating game same with mata. Our best CM is ageing in carrick, so that never helps. We not long lost ferdinand vidic and evra, so the club still needs to replace some of these guys and carrick. I do not think the club is that far off, it just needs to add more. The chess pieces are still moving into play, new manager and players last summer, now expect more rebuilding, its getting there especially we are close to sealing the top 4.

We were shit but it's 3 crucial points in the bag. A giant step towards securing a top 4 place. Lots of work to be done over the summer though.

It was dreadful. The ball couldn't even be trusted to bounce right.

I thought Paddy did well. Took the simple option when he had to and didn't fanny about with any needless clever stuff.
Just had a moment where Murray left him dead and nearly cost us a goal.

Could not understand Jones, Smalling and Evans running forward into the other half and then stopping and passing backwards. Pretty damn clueless. I am pretty sure they do not practice that in training.

As I've said before, I don't want to be overly critical of Paddy, as he's young and has barely any experience at centre back at any level, never mind the Premier League, but I'm fairly sure I could have done everything he did today. The one occasion he had to actually defend, he got turned by Murray. It wasn't a bad performance as such, but certainly not one deserving of any real praise.

Great result for us, but it wasn't a great perfomance. It is a bit sad that Young crossing for Fellaini at the far post is our main attatcking threat. Young was great today by the way. We can now build and plan for CL football next season.

Especially when our midfielders were losing the ball or giving it away.

I assume they let the grass grow to try and put off our passing. Their tactic was basically launch the ball long to Murray.

I actually don't think the pitch helped them much either. They're far better for me when they get the ball wide to their wingers but it couldn't have been easy for them playing on that.

I missed the moment Smalling got subbed. Did he get an injury?

A tough game to come into as a sub with Palace in the ascendency. Moreover, our defence had been shuffled around because of Shaw's injury. He didn't set the place alight but he played as well as the rest of them. Not the finished article by a long chalk but a very good prospect for us.

They probably had their first team, the reserves, and the bloody tea lady taking a dump on it to fertilize the grass. Then Pardew had it sprayed with sun tan lotion.

We was awful but that doesn't matter, winning is what counts and we didn't look like we would for most of the match. This passing game we're trying to play just dull to watch because we're not really causing much threat to the oppositions defenders. There's no tempo to our game neither.

Im more disapointed that we once again got out of jail with a hoof ball to Fellaini, its just abit embarrasing. We were awful i thought in that second half and palace deserved more.

But at least we won.
Really there was no hoof ball today. We have played like that since Swansea (about 12 games ago). Unless you're calling Young's dangerous cross to Fellaini a hoof ball?

With the injuries we've picked up today we desperately need Chelsea to get a result tomorrow. Can't see us doing much in our last two games with Smalling and Rooney out.

We need two points if Liverpool win their next three games. Hull are now in a relegation dogfight, and Arsenal will hardly be a walkover. So ....

If Jose does the business tomorrow, I'll never say another bad word about him.

I am in really good humour this evening, so I am going to stay with this one. This football thing is a team sport, something built from a squad. The Premiership is a hugely difficult challenge, in a year when the team has a new manager and many new signings. Its a juggle, like rehearsing and performing in public simultaneously. Fourth - plus major team-building - would be a great achievement. As @Oneunited26 writes, there have been a lot of injuries. The 'average' thing sounds like a very glib judgement to me. Who are you talking about? Different players will always bring different qualities to the team. A lot depends, as we see in the case of Young, on how they are deployed. Not everyone can be a Fellaini, or a De Gea, or indeed a Leo Messi. Some people are remarkably good at various facets of the game. Manchester United are Manchester United. This club is not a cause. Some people will leave this summer. Some new people will come in. A lot of young lads are being let go by clubs as we speak, their dreams shattered, or at least badly dented after apprenticeships to the game. I don't particularly like talk of 'average' players. Such a thing as an 'average player' does not exist. I am a supporter of Manchester United. I am probably a fairly average example, actually. It's my job to get excited, to be inspired, to be disappointed. I generally don't speak in the same breath of 'big money' and 'average players'. It's not my money and its not my average.

Just got home without knowing the score. Went to the caf, saw the threads at the top and was gutted as I thought we'd lost. Gather we weren't great but before the match today I didn't care as long as we won.

Poor performance but all I care about right now are the 3 points. I thought it was a bit difficult with the injuries too. Good resilience.

I agree. That is all I care about. I'm delighted. With the injuries and all it looked like a make-shift team. Delighted with the 3 points.

We have signed a winger that we probably needed badly to play that 433. Like I say this team can be very dangerous when the right players are fit, we cant be that bad if we can rip teams like city apart, and real Madrid bench warmer Steve mcmanaman thought Liverpool would beat us 3-0. Losing 3 games in a row after beating city 4 2 is some achievement, but its not that bad, our problems are the cogs in our machine keep breaking down because of injurys and age, like Michael Carrick for example. Imagine having a settled defense, and a midfield that is balanced and younger, like carricks replacement and another to play alongside herrera, with depay rooney and another leading the attack things will look allot better when that is starting to work

Exactly, the fact we lost Carrick, ADM and RvP before the game, then 3 more during it. It was a fighting performance and that was all that matters at this stage.

My thoughts exactly. We can worry about performances over the summer, for now getting that win was all I wanted.

Thank feck the injuries weren't serious. Rooney had a dead leg, Smalling had a cramp and LVG says Shaw's injury wasn't bad.

Imagine what the team will look like next season in midfield and attack
??
herrera ??
depay rooney ??

Get those positions filled, looks pretty water tight next season to me, get that 4th position secured, we going to look in better shape next season

Call me masochistic, but that was a very entertaining game. We didn't play well, of course, rode our luck at times and relied on de Gea. Young MOTM. Injuries, though.

Murray totally bought the freekick for their goal by holding Smalling's arm across him.
That's what I thought too
