Even in defeat, Moyesie still celebrates. 10/10 would def watch again.

Typical shite LC performance. Sluggish players returning from injury or out of form, with a couple of decent performances from Lingard and Pereira.

Exactly the sort of thing Fergie would serve up at this time of the year, only difference between then and now is the quality from the bench. Rooney should have been able to change the game, he should be the one to come on a drag us up a couple of levels. If anything we were worse with him on the pitch.

LvG pulled him from the CF position and hopefully now sees his time is up. It was obvious to everyone (even Rooney, looking at his face) that he would miss the pen.

The smoggies were as crap as us as well; that was no heroic victory for them. They were just slightly less shit.

And why do these English lads always step up to take penalties? The whole world knows they are fecking awful at it.

I'm already over it. Blessing in disguise. Potentially 3 games less for a small squad of players. We haven't got the squad to be fecking around in the carling cup.

It really was one of the genuinely funniest games I've ever seen. Blind og, their keeper with the chest tekkers, the step over tekkers, Romero nearly scoring on og, Romero with the diving header when he could have caught it, Rooney. May have been more, brilliant stuff.

Ah well..

Lingard and Pereira were good.. Seeing Rooney being dropped to midfield and sending Martial upfront gives me hope that maybe LVG might play him as a striker against Palace.. Mot getting my hopes up though,as the captain always plays..:boring:

our greatest chance of silverware was a shitty capital one cup that still has City in it who would probably spank us if we drew them away.

Doubtful. For reference see 3 days ago.

It's the League Cup FFS, we've had far more shit performances / results in it than good ones over the last 20 years. Glad we're out of it and hopefully LVG is a bit clearer about who is / isn't up for 1sr team duties. Unfortunately he keeps thinking Rooney is...

How shit is Depay, this guy wouldn't make it in the Torquay United women's team.

If LVG continues to play him and Rooney then he must have a screw loose!

Pretty baffling we don't change our approach against someone like Boro. Setting up solid and compact against a rival makes sense to me, but the players surely should be allowed to just have their heads in these kind of games. I refuse to believe we didn't have the quality on that pitch today to tear them apart.

Also Rooney really does look shot. He was a bit better in midfield but he offers little - looks like those saying he's finished are right
Mind-boggling that he was involved at all today. He looks hapless and spent, should have had a rest.

Really? We lost at MK Dons last year. How in the fecking hell did that help us for the rest of the season? It wont do shit because the players dont care. They get their money either way.

Vermijl, James, Anderson, Evans, Keane, Janko, Kagawa, Hernandez, Welbeck, Powell all started. Where are they now? It did help after all.

He could have brought two of them on instead of Rooney and Young. He chose to persist with Wayne. God help us.
Of course, no manager in their right fecking mind would end up with a midfield of Carrick, Fellaini and fecking Rooney, shambles.

Well that was tedious. Very few positives today. I thought Pereira looked promising, at least he looks like he cares and looks to take responsibility.
Mostly the players didn't look very bothered which is always disappointing.

Yeah memphis is gash, nearly kicked him self in the face with that epic airshot. Summed up the performance!

Rooney has to be dropped. Its as simple as that. I just dont get it. We are a better team without him. I would rather give Depay a chance since he is capable of doing something unlike this fat feck we have.
I get it your upset we all are with Rooney form but he isn't fat ffs...slower now yes prick sometimes but he isn't fat

Youngsters seemed to play with more passion, so that's good.

Other than that, a night to forget. The soon the better. Stuff like this just makes me lower my expectations and I do not enjoy that.

I'm sure there is a inside sabotage job going on from Giggs. Also try to defend Rooney for that rubbish Rio and Scholes.

Here we go.

What? He's not wrong though. For all the things people say about LVG, there's a strange feeling that he's far from being the best as a man who should motivate his players. Never underestimate motivation and man-management skills in a manager; otherwise, we would not have won as much if Fergie was not that damn good as a motivation expert.

Was Wilson really that bad? Why did we take him out? At least should have brought on Martial to replace him.

I don't think we were "awful" but what do I know? There's always a massive over reaction every single time we lose a game of football. It was an open game, end to end at times and in the final minutes, we did have 2 clear cut chances to win it, we had 2 clear penalties not given, about 5 weak shots straight at the keeper. We were not terrible at all, Boro were just very well drilled, determined & fought until the end, they deserve a lot of credit. It went to penalties & our senior players, like much of the game, failed woefully.

I thought Lingard & Perreira gave very good account of themselves, Fellaini played well. I fear for Memphis, he's struggling to do the basics, such as bringing the ball under control. He can't pass & doesn't take on his man, his crossing is poor, he's basically offering nothing, I know he needs time to settle, but he's not showing anything worthy of perseverance right now. And Rooney was just Rooney, past his sell by date, now that Young is back, maybe LVG can drop him. I thought it was an entertaining game, very open, but we didn't win, which means, we were "awful" & it's the fault of the manager. I don't understand this logic at all.

I've been giving him the benefit of the doubt for some time but not any longer. LVG has ruined our attacking game with his methods. Every flair player we had before he came along and every attacking player he has signed since has become less of a threat under his management apart from Martial. I fully expect him to coach everything exciting out of Martial before the end of the season :(

I was talking about the jelousy and clamouring for the liverpool manager. It's boring already. I can't see it happening, but God forbid if Klopp has any real success then I swear a huge chunk of our posters will be over at RAWK before you know it.

Funny thing is we can guarantee it'll be Rooney leading the line vs Palace.

Fecking joke.

from what I'm reading in this thread I'm glad I was stuck in a lecture during the match.

Youngsters let down by seniors. Cost them minutes / game time and a chance of a trophy.

Annoyed we are out, because it was a really good chance for a trophy, we saw what the 2006 league cup win did for us and our young players.

A shocking trend of a poor slow first half continues.

Forget his declining football ability, I need to know why Rooney is captain? What does he actually offer as a captain, I dont see him talking to our players, organising, being a leader. Its just a bicep prop for him.

Lee Mason is a human Homer Simpson. Except Homer turned out to be a good referee when he booked Lisa for diving.

The match day thread should go in classics. Hilarious fun.
