Rio Ferdinand

I'd also argue that Rio is a bit of a wanker - sarcastic referee clapping, needless off the ball niggles, thinking the "choc ice" tweet was hilarious, steward kicking, hawking shit ill-fitting baseball caps with his shirt number on etc..

That aside, he had a good game today.

Not exactly out of character for him, is it?

He seems to largely fly under the radar for all the cnutish things he has got up to in his career.

With all due respect, it's not really any of your business what a United footballer has or hasn't done throughout his career.

Bit of a bizarre statement that in fairness. He's entitled to talk about whoever he wants regardless of who he supports. By that logic then I assume if you're down the pub and it's United vs Madrid you flat out refuse to talk about anything other than Man Utd? Look at the front page of this forum, there's topics about Suarez, Benitez, Liverpool, AVB and Gareth Bale, none have any connection to Man Utd really and yet we will talk about the topics, that's the whole point of football.

I equally think TheRisingSun has a point to be honest, Rio does a lot of good but he seems a bit of a tit at the same time, this was just pathetic and needless and could actually result in a ban (it was a shit kick but a kick all the same.) Imagine he does this, Evans picks up an injury and then we're struggling in defence against because of a moment of stupidity.

It is a response to TRS saying that Chelsea's business is nothing to do with United in a previous thread.

3 of those incidents have been against Chelsea.

At least he goes after cnuts that deserve it

He's a bit immature Rio but I don't think he's a nasty type. Strange that he did that yesterday as he's so calm and relaxed in his football. I'll forgive him for most stuff he's done because he's the best defender I've seen at the club.

I agree that he's not a nasty type but he has a very petulant and immature side.

Out of interest, would you say that John Terry is a "nasty type" as a footballer? The reason being is I thought that similar Sanchez red card last season was actually quite out of character for John Terry - I can't think of any other times he's been red carded for violent conduct in his career.

I couldn't agree more.

What it definitely is is a clear red for any opposition player doing it against us in the eyes of all the red tinted fans trying to dismiss it as nothing.

However much you think it may be handbags, we'd all be arguing malicious intent till the cows come home if Terry or Suarez or someone had done that to Rio.

It was an incredibly stupid thing to do.

Indeed it was stupid, but I just can't see how he's gonna get banned. It's not vicious or with that much force, and it's not to the head.

As weird as this probably sounds, he would have been more likely to get a red if the ref had seen it during the game than he is to get one retrospectively. I say more likely but knowing the ref that Webb is he wouldn't send someone off for that incident, it'd be a talking to to both players and a yellow to the pusher.

On the pitch, no. Not physically anyway. I can't recall too many incidents where it looks like he's trying to hurt someone or anything. He's always very focused on the job at hand, which is probably why he doesn't seem to get phased by his off-field nonsense. Odd bloke.

I'd say it's more stupid than cnutish Rising Sun

The cnutish part for me was hauling him up and snarling in his face as if he had gone to ground easily when it was a deliberate and cowardly trip (pressure on the limbs and from the top) from behind.

Torres goes down too easily, Rio doesn't like that and has no issues telling him so as he has done many times before on the pitch. Does no one remember #stayonyourfeet? Well that was aimed at Torres.

I found the whole thing pretty amusing to be honest. Torres elbowed him in the head leading up to it which is what pissed Rio off. Certainly more fun than watching Lehman and Drogba throw each other to the ground with thin air and magic that's for sure.

I have to agree that the incident with Torres yesterday should be qualified as cnutish, it's something I'd expect from players I don't respect such as Terry or Suarez to be honest, and I'm not going to make excuses cos it's Rio. It was cnutish (prompted by another cnutish thing for sure, but that doesn't excuse it), and if he gets a ban for it, I think it'd be a bit hypocritical for us to say much about it.

But for other incidents referenced above, I don't think you could really use that word to describe his actions. He seems to me more immature and a bit... simple, in that some of his actions off the pitch don't seem fit for a mature grown man (not that I really care by the way), and therefore, I think yesterday's incident was quite out of character from him, I wouldn't rank it alongside other little events.

As mentioned above, that is not Terry's style on the pitch normally which is why the Sanchez thing was very out of character for him.

That is out of Suarez's playbook all day, although he would've been more vicious and more subtle.

No further action as Webb has reviewed the footage and deemed it not to be a red card offence.

No idea how he came up with that to be honest, Rio's lucky to get away with it for me.

oooff!

No ban for me, honestly. Football is becoming way too precious if that would warrant a ban.

It's so obviously a booking rather than a red card.

Haha. Decided to finally look at the video of the incident. I can't believe this is even discussed. Torres nudges Rio going for the ball, Rio pushed him a little, Torres went down really easily, Rio told him to get up. What's the big deal?

This. Sense.

I haven't seen the incident, don't intend on seeing it, but I will say this:

Torres can suck a dick. Good on Rio.

Rio in the last week has acted like a complete pr*ck. Sarcastically clapping in the referee's face - and then shoving someone in the back like that - dirty and so lacking respect.

If Joey Barton had done that he would have got a 10 game ban probably. Totally classless.

Excuse me? What?

Righto. I'm not condoning what Rio's done this past week but that's pretty funny.

I agree that shoving Torres was a bit prickish.

I don't care about him clapping in cnuty Cakir's face. That's fine.

The funny thing is what Rio does is a pretty standard Sunday League move, remind him you're there and all that. Rio didn't really need to do it because well Torres is shit. If he was going to do it I don't get why he picked him up after. It really is nothing though, silly but it's actually a sad indictment on modern football if people think he should be banned for that. If the ref sees that he's just going to tell them to stop being dicks and play on.

At best it was a yellow card, really.

I'd still say a good referee would give him a warning, tell him to cut-out the handbags and get on with the game. I wouldn't complain if he would have booked him though.

It's not a red in a million years however.

Angle wasn't conclusive enough to warrant a charge apparently. Not a red for me personally but knowing the way the FA operate he's a bit lucky

What do you smoke mate ?

I'm amazed that people even thought it could warrant a red card. There is literally Jamie, nothing about the incident that would make it a red card.

Anwyay, glad the nonsense is over.

A one-match ban would have suited all parties. He'll be rested anyway and now Webb and ourselves will have to make do with yet more conspiracy theorists crying.

Wouldn't have happened if the ref gave a foul to Rio with Torres jumping into the back of him.

Also, how do people complain about not being banned when that is clearly a yellow card offence at most? It was hardly violent conduct.

Was Terry's knee in the back violent conduct? There was no need for Sanchez to go down there either - both stupid off the ball nothing incidents as far as "Sunday league" goes, but the consensus seemed to be that Terry should've been red carded at the Nou Camp. If that's the case, then Rio's was also a red card.

Amazing. Should have been a ban, clearly. If another player had done that to a United player, you'd all be shitting yourself screaming about a ban.
