Shinji Kagawa

If Kagawa is isolated, it won't be the system. It'll be the fact we're playing Bayern fecking Munich.

Having Buttner behind will give him plenty of support on paper, but I doubt we'll be spending much time in Bayern's half regardless.

If he's played in the middle, he won't be isolated. If he gets played on the wings, he'll get isolated not just because of our tactics but because of Bayern's play too.

he might not be isolated, but he might simply be pushed off the ball in the middle like vs spurs around christmas... and if that happens the reason he played badly will be moyes system.

dont know why people can't accept that kagawa is a very talented player who simply doesn't play well all the time

there are no kagawa haters, only people that say he played poorly for us for a year and a half, but hope he stops playing poorly.

most fans hope that he can eventually fit in week in week out. but the times he was given opportunities to be our main playmaker he let us down earlier in the season. Last 4 games he's showed a lot more desire to be responsible and positive imo. taking people on and not just playing safe 3 yard balls, moving better to get away from phsical players

He hasn't played "poorly" over the past 18 months. It's exaggerated stuff like that which destroys any objective discussion regarding Kagawa. He's ranged from good to underwhelming, for reasons which have been debated in tedium.

As for your second point, Kagawa had a few good games when played behind the forward in the Champions League earlier in the season. When exactly did he let anybody down? There was that odd game when he was swapped with Welbeck after 10 minutes against Spurs but aside from that, I don't buy your argument.

There are no "Kagawa haters," but there is certainly a faction of supporters that tend to ignore the positives during Kagawa's time here, of which there has been several good games, particularly nearing the conclusion of last season.

Welbeck has to play and Rooney has to be central. So then the question becomes "should Kagawa go left with Welbeck up top, or does Welbeck go left with Kagawa in the hole and Rooney up top?".

If you look at the heatmaps of Kagawa when he has nominally been on the left, it's pretty clear he has a free role and drifts centrally the whole game anyway. To me, the answer to the question is easy to come by: you go with Welbeck leading the line and Kagawa "out wide" because it gives the most to the team overall.

Well, if he plays well he won't be pushed off the ball. I don't know why you expect to Kagawa to play badly against Munich (or should I say all the time?)

Agreed Dante, As long as Kagawa has been given the license to roam freely, we can't blame the system. I don't know how we'll be set up against Bayern though.

'The system' is much more than one players position and freedom though. It's about the other players too; their roles and movement.

If he gets the ball in central areas but has limited options and little movement ahead of him then you can't expect him to make something out of nothing.

He plays well with Mata because they make use of space and create it for others. They both have the ability to link together quickly with one touch passing.

Play the same system, but put a less technical player in Matas role in the same 'system' and there it's unlikely they could replicate play of the same quality.

His stats from last year don't matchup with your statement.

That is true, but in the end he's playing with international players. We can't have a blanket excuse for Kagawa that none of what happens on the field is his fault, in my opinion that is.

Mindblowing that Kagawa is behind Welbeck, Valencia and Giggs in the pecking order for this game. He's been better than all these players in the CL this season, and he's also done well in the league lately. Not to mention he has valuable experience against Bayern.

Is Moyes actually mental? It's like he doesn't want us to score in this game. The only way his decision makes sense, is if he's going for 0-0 in both games.

Best player in the last game arguably, gets benched for this game  You'd think that with Mata unavailable he'd definitely play, but no. Not to mention that he's the only one who has recently beaten and put in MotM performances against Bayern. If he was british he'd be hailed as the next Messi and would never be dropped.

As expected...was very good against Villa so naturally let's drop him.

I hope there comes a day that Moyes is sacked and by some freak of nature his team is playing the team Shinji is with (he's off in the summer)...and I hope Shinji destroys Moyes' XI so bad that even the tribes in the Amazon, who don't even know what football is, laugh at Moyes' team.

I like Moyes' tactics: go out and say that Nani is a player who needs game time to become the player he can be, after a good showing, and then bench him for the next match.

Have Kagawa be motm and say he will be important in the next few matches, then bench him for the upcoming match.

Feck me hard and sideways into the shite that came out of a horse.

Man that is disappointing, I was convinced he was going to start tonight.

If Moyes needed somebody to translate some Japanese, and the only person with him was Kagawa, he'd still get his phone and dial one of the feckwit coaches he's brought here from Everton for help

Getting sold. Definitely.

Dropped again and Valencia starts. Sums up Moyes, really.

It's not difficult to understand why he want's to play Valencia but I certainly don't agree with it.

Moyes gone or Kagawa gone definitely...

Sadly Moyes will stay and half of our squad, mostly the better half e.g. Kagawa, Nani, Hernandez will go.

Don't worry though Young and Valencia will be around...

This is not even funny anymore. It seems that regardless of his performances, he won't start the next game. Is Moyes trying to be idiot on purpose?

Thought his experience against this side, ability to hold the ball and composure would be useful.

Then again, might also make sense to play the 'energy' folk early (Welbz, Valencia) and bring on Shinji later in the game, when it's a bit more stretched.

Let's let Moyes rebuild though and get HIS team in, cause you know that will be better then Sir Alex's United  fecking ridiculous, god I hate that guy.

Why was Kagawa subbed off in our last match, where he was our best player, if it wasn't so he would be rested for this match? It makes absolutely no sense.

If we wanted energy why do we have a spine of Ferdinand, Vidic, Carrick, Fellaini and Giggs?

The whole of this season doesn't make sense for Kagawa. When he plays, he looks like one of our most skilled players consistently, and then he doesn't play again for a few weeks.

I hate David Moyes. Seriously hate him.

He just sucks any joy or flair out of football.

Where would you play him? Giggs deserves to start after his performance the last time he played and Welbeck is needed to protect Buttner on the left.

Bet anything Moyes thought taking Kagawa off early would stir up a bit of 'uncertainty' in terms of the lineup for this game.

Gettin' dizzy there, eh, Pep!

Either in place of Valencia or Fellaini. Both of them serve no purpose on this game (or ever).

That makes no sense since he isn't competing with either of them for a starting spot. I'd love for Fletcher or Nani to start ahead of those two though. Kagawa has much more competent competition for a starting spot in the form of Giggs and Welbeck.
