The MMA thread

I can see how people can stand up for Anderson Silva, but the fight itself was not reminiscent of the times when he cunted Rich Franklin. I want that guy back.

Liddell really is finished, I never really took to him either. "Oh wow he loves the sport, its great he's still fighting!", yeah well maybe fight for free next time. Still, Shogun needed to perform, and having a KO of Chuck Liddell is good for his CV.

When can we realistically expect GSP/Silva? GSP is fighting at UFC 100, maybe UFC 105? Can't wait for that. Chances are it will happen now.

i would expect silva to have another fight before... possibly the winner of bisping and henderson?? and possibly in the uk if its bisping (afterall silva pulled out before and they did promice a title fight on uk soil this year)... i could see that happening about ufc 105ish...

so possibly gsp to have a fight around ufc 105, silva to have a fight at the next ufc and then spend 4-6 months building up the gsp silva fight (and giving gsp time to step up to 185 as i cant see silva coming down any weight)... so possibly not even till ufc 110 ish... i could be wrong but just dont see it happening super quick...

and imo if it does happen silva would be too strong for gsp at 185...

at 185 im not sure he would...

at a catch weight id probably make gsp the favourite but look at the problems penn had trying to go up a division... i cant see silva fighting lower than at 185 because silva alredy fights at 205 sometimes and 170 to 205 is a huge difference... at 185 i just think that silva would be too good and he would carry the weight naturally better... could gsp put on an extra 15lbs muscle?... surely he would burst????

though in truth id like gsp to win and then stay at 185 because that would give dan a much better chance of ever winning the 170 title but id make silva the favourite

Can you post that mate the link didn't work from here @ work

Kyle Maynard, born with his arms at his elbows and his legs at his knees, is now less than a week from his mixed martial arts debut set for Saturday at "Auburn Fight Night" at the Auburn Covered Arena in Alabama.

The event is being promoted around his long-awaited debut and will be streamed online for $14.95 at www.kylemaynardfight.com.

His opponent for the amateur bout will be announced at the weigh-ins on Friday.

The 22-year-old Maynard graduated high school with a wrestling record of 35 wins and 16 losses. After competing in the 2004 Georgia High School Wrestling Championships, Maynard was honored with the 2004 ESPN ESPY award for Best Athlete With A Disability.

Two years ago he was denied a license to fight in Georgia by the Georgia Athletic & Entertainment Commission, but Maynard will be allowed to fight Saturday since there is no commission to regulate mixed martial arts in Alabama.

What is everyones opinion on the Machida Evans fight. I personally love watching machida fight its pure okinawan martial arts, never get hit, let your opponent put himself into your attacks, brilliant.

Should be a very tactical and technical fight.

As silva, leites wasnt even willing to fight, I dont see what the controversy is about

Again, on paper I don't think it looks a particularly good match up.

Both like to fight on the counter so it could be Silva/Leites all over again.

I hope I'm proved wrong.

its a real tough fight to call...

but i just think that rashad has the better hands and i think over 5 rounds he will catch macheda...

i wouldnt be shocked if it went the other way either but my gut says rashad...

and dana must be hoping that evans wins... machedas style has hardly endeered him to a lot of ufc fans...

That guy Rob Browning (Junie's brother), what a fecking arsehole he is. I'm talking about TUF by the way, hope he gets fecking punched around the house at some stage.

I think Machida is the better fighter. His punches are more technical and he lands a huge amount of them. He also is very elusive and hardly gets hit. Rashad is the better wrestler but I can't see him looking to get the Dragon to the ground too often as Machida is far better on the ground. I cannot see any other winner but Machida unless Rashad can catch him on the button with an overhand right or something similar. If it goes to points, I'd expect Machida to come up on top.

What did everyone think of Shogun? He clearly isn't back to his old best yet but nonetheless it was a fairly impressive win over Chuck. If he can get back to his best that he was a couple of years ago, he is a massive contender.

Tbh chuck looked finished, his style is too old to keep up with contemporary mma. Shogun looked wary but he had the upper hand throughout the fight I thought. On the road back to being devastating, not quite there yet though.

He's a wee shit.

Can you fecking imagine how many times him and his brother had scraps with each other growing up?

Yea, Shogun still looks very sluggish. If he can get back to his old self, he is one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world. I'd expect him to win the UFC title if he reaches what he once was. He is still only young as well.

That will give Forrest a good chance.

if silva wins do you think he could get a shot at the light heavyweight title?

rampang is due to fight the winner of evans vs macheda... but after that fight if silva won against forrest surely he would be in the mix?

I don't know. It depends on whether Silva has the motivation. Hasn't he said before that he only has a few fights left in him?

I think he could be given a shot at the title alright. A Silva v Machida match would be great.

What do you think?

if he wins against forest then i think its pretty certain he would get a shot at the title after jackson...

if he would also be fighting at 185 as well i dont know... but if it is true that he is going to retire when his contract expires that leaves him with 4 more fights...

so one against forest
maybee a title defence at 185 (if he fights at 2 weights)
then possibly a crack at the light heavyweight title against jackson/evans/macheda
then possibly a "superfight" against GSP at 185...

and if he did retire as a 2 weight champion with a win over gsp then that would be quite something!

but i think he will probably only fight at 205... which would leave the 185 division looking a bit empty...

UFC 98... predictions

well besides the top fight this is not the best card but the top fight makes it worth a watch...

evans Vs Machida... Im going with evans... but its a tough call
hughes Vs Serra... hughes but again its pretty close to call
McFedries Vs. Foupa-Pokam
Dan Miller Vs. Chael Sonnen
Sherk Vs Edgar

Silva is WAY bigger than GSP. This is a ridiculous fight.

Silva is actually only slightly smaller than Fedor. Silva walks around at something like 220 pounds, he then diets hard to get down to ~200, and then cuts 15 or so pounds before the fight.

GSP walks around at like 190, 195.

Give me Fedor Silva before GSP Silva.

well yes... but getting fedor to the ufc is proving hard enough... and if they did i fancy lesnar might be his opponent after he has gone all donkey kong on mir...

as for a gsp vs silva fight...it has been mentioned a few times by dana so it could happen?... and well the reason i would make gsp a favourite at a catch weight is that its too far for silva to drop... catch weight would presumably be at 177.5 and thats a huge drop from the 205 he is going to be fighting at...

i actually think if silva wins against forest he wont fight at 185 again... there is no challenge for him left at 185 but perhaps he could fight the winner of evans / macheda / jackson?

The only fight I'd be really interested in is the main event. I think Machida will win. I think the only way Rashad will win is with a one punch knockout.

Machida v Evans will be the only thing to watch for next weekend. It will be an interesting match up for sure. I hope Hughes and Serra simultaneously knock each other out and retire.

one of the closest match ups i can think of for a while...

its quite a stacked division isnt it... evans, machida, jackson, rua, forrest and now anderson silva as well...

throw in wandaleri silva and cane and go back to the days of ufc 1...

make them have 3 fights in a night to become champion...

Id pay a LOT to see that...

the heavyweight division is missing some big names... fedor, arlovski, silva, Barnett

shaping up to be some good fights this year though... the 205lb division is looking to have some great fights to come this year (especially if A silva steps up)...

etim, hardy and bisping all doing well at the moment... who knows a couple of good fights and one could even get a title shot?

I try not to watch the Ultimate Fighter anymore because the more and more I watch it, the more I seem to detest Michael Bisping. He comes across as a total prick. Does anyone else have this problem?

Just finished watching it. Left the house expecting darkness. Didn't realise it was half 5. Woops

Delighted Machida got the win. Rashad got around max 4/5 hits.

That smug cnut Serra lost, and proceeded to save face with his tail between his legs.

Machida was brilliant. He has the ability to go on and become as good or actually surpass Anderson Silva's level of ability. He totally took Rashad apart and Rashad was the top man in the division. He is so hard to hit. He could go on to become a great.

I'm so happy Machida won. I really don't like Rashad Evans, and I really like Lyoto Machida :D

Him and Demian Maia are my two favorites at the moment, I'd have to say.

I've always wondered why people hate Rashad? What do you dislike him so much? He seems like a decent bloke compared to some of the idiots in the UFC.
