The MMA thread

Some great fights this weekend starting with Strikeforce tonight and WEC 41 tomorrow. Some real good fights on the Strikeforce card.

Arlovski v Rogers
Lawler v Shields
Diaz v Smith
Randleman v Whitehead
Riggs v Baroni

And the WEC has Faber v Brown II.

rodgers ko'd arolvski  i didnt expect that!

winner of bisping vs hendo is deffinatley getting a title shot at anderson silva later in the year...

dana also said the uk would get a title bout held here this year as well... so if bisbing wins then it must be on the cards that the fight would take place at the o2

Where did you hear that? I remember Bisping saying he was close to a fight with Silva, but is there any official sources?

on the wiki page for ufc 100... at the bottom (above the fight card)

http://www.ufcdump.com/articles/1259/Title-shot-for-Henderson-Bisping-winner.html

that also suggests ufc 105 in manchester (bisping vs silva... obviousley only if bisping wins)...

even mentioned in the sun http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/ufc/2460707/Bisping-v-Silva-touted-for-UFC-105.html

if he can win against henderson... and i think he has got a shot the fight against silva would make a lot of sence.

dana promices the uk fans a championship fight this year... silva pulled out of the last ufc in the uk... bisping is marketable in the states (especially after tuf) and certainly it would help push the ufc in the uk/europe... also he is likley to stay stood up against silva and trade some blows which was certainly missing from his last fight...

also for ufc 105 dan hardy should be ready for another fight, so should terry etim, paul kelly as well ( i suspect he could do ok at lightweight)... so plenty of uk fighters for the punters as well... all in all it seems to be a logical and marketable event (kamperman must be due a fight soon as well... if hardy wins against davis then possibly hardy kamperman would be billed as a uk undercard and get something like john jones and jardine to push in the states)...

could well happen... as ive said before its as much about the marketing of the fight as it is about the actual skills of the fighters as to who fights who and when... but a uk fight in november would seem to fit in well with a lot of the fighters schedules

Silva's fighting at 101, do you reckon he will find 4 months enough? fecking hope so, especially if United are playing at home that weekend. Would be a great trip, United and UFC :D

yeah... he has said he wants to fight more often... and if he is going to fight at 2 weights he will have to as they can hardly let him fight once a year at mw and still be champion

i went to the last ufc... tbh im not sure if ill go to the next one...

Not that interested in 99 to be honest. Only fight Im interested in is Hardy/Davis. Hope Davis knocks the shit out of the cocky fecking twat. Silva/Franklin will probably be a good fight but I'm not really that bothered who wins.

Top 10 Pound For Pound In Mma

was looking at sherdog today and discussing the top 10 with some friends...
http://www.sherdog.com/news/rankings/sherdogcoms-pound-for-pound-top-10-17684
have to say i disagree with some of the rankings but agree with a lot of the names... what about you lot?

Id say

1. Fedor (1 defeat in 30 fights and the other guy should have been disqualified... you can only beat whats in front of you and he always does)
2. Silva (last 2 fights have been a bit poor but thats because nobodys prepared to come and fight him... because hes that good!)
3. GSP (awsome athlete, good striker and a just great strength)
4. BJ Penn (undefeted at 155lbs since 2002! his only defetes are to hughes at ww twice to gsp at ww and that crazy fight he took against machieda in K1)
5. Torres (37-1 in a nine year career... at 135lbs hes tiny... but he can fight!)
6. Machjieda (undefeted in a tough weight class... impressive stuff)
7. Alaves (lost to fitch but has won 6 on the bounce including victories agains parysian hughes and kosacheck in hos last 3 fights)
8.Lesnar (he is a beast and his strength is amazing... he could put anybody in the division out with those big meet lumps... and technically hes a good wrestler as well)
9. mike brown (2 wins over faber... how long untill he steps up to 155?)
10. faber (bloody good fighter in his own right which makes browns wins even more impressive)

There's still a lot of good fights at 145 for Brown. Aldo and Fabiano just to name 2. He will probably be there for quite a while.

no honestly dan is a nice down to earth guy...

but he knows to get the fights he wants he needs to get more of a profile stateside and winding davies up is a way to do it... but hes quite humble actually and very complementary about some of the fighters in his division...

at the end of the day its about business... as ive said before on here its as much about showing the ufc they can make money out of a fighter as it is about their fighting skills for them to get good fights

Davis is an outstanding boxer. His ground game is underrated as well. Hardy is pretty talented too. It could go either way, but it certainly isn't going to a decision. If you had to pin me down, I would say Davis via 2nd Round TKO, but if Hardy can keep him at bay on the feet, he could squeak out a decision.

"His website looks like st patriks day exploded..."

well obviousley I think Dan is going to win... but admittedley im a bit biased...

but in truth id say dans ground game is the one that is the most underatted... although he is only a blue belt under eddie bravo dont be fooled into thinking hes not dangerous

this is a fight that dans wanted for a long time and if he can deal with the southpaw angle (im a south paw and he has NO trouble with me!)

Gwan Dan

I agree completely.

UFC 99 card:

What are your predictions? It looks like a great card.

Rich Franklin Vs. Wanderlei Silva
I'm going for Franklin on points. I don't think Wanderlei will knock him out.

Cheick Kongo Vs. Cain Velasquez
This one is interesting. Velasquez is obviously seen as been a potential superstar. I think it is too early in his career to be facing Kongo. Kongo will be too strong. Ground and pound victory I think.

Mirko Cro Cop Vs. Mostapha Al Turk
A half fit Cro Cop will demolish Al-Turk. It depends if Mirko has gotten over his injury problems and that his left foot is back to it's best. Cro Cop by knockout.

Mike Swick Vs. Ben Saunders
I'm going for Swick as I don't know too much about Saunders. I've seen Swick a few times and he is a good fighter without being outstanding. Swick by submission.

Spencer Fisher Vs. Caol Uno
Two very experienced guys, I think Fisher is better though. I think he'll win but I wouldn't predict how.

Marcus Davis Vs. Dan Hardy
Davis by knock out in the second round. He is a good boxer and I think he will eventually catch Hardy and knock him out.

It's quite an impressive card to be honest. I was half considering going to Germany for it, quite gutted I didn't now, because I had the money at the time when I was going to book it. Ah well.

UFC at 8, then Cotto vs Clottey later on. Gonna be a good night.

Ah bollocks, spoiled the result of the Etim/Buccholz fight by watching the betting exchange patterns. Forgot that there will be some fights start before 8.

woo yay
good win for dan

he has one fight left on his 4 fight deal and i think its likley he will get a shot at a good fighter this time... im hoping kos... i think he can win that...

I thought Wanderlei deserved that decision quite clearly, as did the lads I was watching it with, but from the way the commentators were drooling over Franklin's "dominance" even when he was doing next to nothing it was obvious what way the decision was going to go.

top ten ufc welterweights...

my guestimate of the ufc rankings after last night

1 gsp
2 alaves
3 fitch
4 kamperman
5 tiaggo
6 kosacheck
7 condit
8 Hughes
9 Swick
10 Hardy

would anybody agree that dan hardy is looking like a top 10 fighter now?

with serra loosing to hughes, parysian being banned...

what with huhes saying he has probably 1 fight left as well if dan could get a fight against kos (could be a good 2nd headline fight for the next ufc in the uk) then he would be looking close to the top 5 (i think kos is a fight he could do very well in)...

am i being a bit biased or can other people start to see dans potential in this division

He has potential but to be fair I don't think he is in that kind of level that you have him there. He had a very close split decision win last night over Marcus Davis who would not belong at that level either.

He'll need a few more fights with better fighters first. He does have the potential anyway.

dunno... sherdog had davies ranked at 11...

dan was disqualified from a fight but has not actually lost a fight since june 2006... so i think he deserves a shot against a well known fighter...

he has a bit of a profile in the states now so as i say i think he is hopefully in line for a good fight at the ufc in the uk...

its his 4th fight of a 4 fight deal so it makes sence for the ufc to test him out against a bigger named opponent...

perhaps its me being a bit biased but surely he has moved ahead of serra, davies, saunders... if you dont put him in that level and he needs a few more fights to get n the top ten then presumably you must think there are 7 or 8 fighters between him and the top ten... erm who are these guys? (bearing in mind shields is not in the ufc and parysian is banned for a year)

I too was thinking that.

But I was supporting Rich, and wanted him to win :D

Well that's the thing. Dan has got a very good winning streak. But he has not really beaten a top fighter. I think to be rated within the top ten, he will have to win his next fight which will be against the likes of maybe Koscheck. But then again I am sure you would know much more about his ability than I would.

ability wise Ithink he can do it and hes just starting to get enough of a profile stateside to warrent a decent fight...

i personally think gsp is a step ahed of everybody in the division... then there is fitch kamperman and alaves... then after that i think dans up there with the likes of thiago & kosacheck...

I agree he has not really been in the cage with a recognised top class fighter but hopefully that will happen next time and give himself the oppertunity to establish himself...

i just hope he does not get kampmann though... hes big for a 170 fighter

All the brits won apart from Al-Turk. I really hope Terry Etim gets a relatively big name soon, I really wanna see how he copes
I didn't watch that one, but didn't he get gouged in the eye or something?
