Wait for what exactly ? He is qualified for the role, available and willing to come unlike other big name managers we all wanted and seeing as we want to hit the ground running in the window and next season prolonging the uncertainty will do more harm than good .
I think he will dispatch Kluivert to come in at Carrington and lay the ground work at least until he can come in .
Kluivert is the dutch assistant so he wont be leaving the world cup before VG

...interestingly it's also said that part of the demands that Van Gaal has made is that Van Gaal has full control over United's youth set-up.

Spurs want him and I'd imagine Van Gaal wants it sorted well before the World Cup.
He'll probably want guarantees if there are other clubs that are interested in him. If Ancelotti was sacked and you decided to pursue him and Spurs already had Pochettino because they thought their chance of getting Van Gaal was finished, then he'd be shafted. Just an example.

Makes sense, I personally would have gone after Ancelotti and tried to prise him away, so perhaps I am biased

We still had till 7 May i.e. two weeks time for LVG per reports

As above, I was hoping the club would pursue some other alternatives for say a week and then go for LVG around the beginning of May if it did not work

Any ground work cannot really start till the end of the season as there is an interim team in place already

Dutch press reporting that a deal was agreed last night with Van Gaal. Woodward, one of the Glazer brothers and United's lawyer were at Van Gaal's home last night in the in the Algarve to thrash out the deal:
http://www.telegraaf.nl/telesport/v...&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=twitterfeed

It's also said that Giggs, Scholes, PNev and Butt will be on Van Gaal's back-room staff, Giggs most likely to be assistant manager with an eye on following Van Gaal up in a couple of seasons.

Where is this mentioned?

...Van Gaal has EUR100mln transfer funds available and Van Gaal has already identified his targets to strengthen the squad.

LvG should have preference on who he wants on his coaching team, having Nicky Butt and P.Neville around doesn't sound great for me even if they were part of class 92 it's a certainty to say LvG has better coaches around him at Holland.

Last view years Van Gaal has mostly picked new staff from ex-pro's new in coaching.

I don't get this.. Is this actually happening? Have any of English Telegraph, bbc, times, guardian or anybody reliable reported this?

De Telegraaf sport journo's has very reliable sources. With so much detail reported I would be very surprised they've got in wrong.

The club would deny this till he is free from the dutch nt job, won't they?
Not necessarily, as long as they have had permission from Dutch fa (no reason why they wouldn't) they can announce whenever.

Like man utd, the dutch fa may prefer this to be sorted asap so it doesn't interfere with final preparations for world cup

No. They'll announce it long before that; they'll want it known for transfers, stock market, etc. If it has happened, they're just waiting to make an official announcement rather than respond to reports.

You're right, and I recall reading that the Dutch fa have given any club that wants to sign him, a window till May 10 to sign him. After that he's got a world cup camp to concentrate on

...conflicting reports about the backroom staff, although Van Dijk & Reckers are likely.

Where you listening to this? You got Dutch radio?

I hope you are right. But this is not being reported even on the SkySports website, which picks up so many substantial rumours quickly. This frankly is a very easy story to cook.

Yeah, you could be right. That is possible. He is still not on the NT job. He is on holidays. If the Dutch FA has given permission, Van Gaal might do the tasks of giving transfer targets, etc. That is also considering the fact that we have ruled out or have been ruled out by Ancelloti, Klopp right in the middle of the season. Klopp said that we didn't contact him yet. So I don't think we would just go with Van Gaal without being explicitly rejected by these managers. I doubt it.

AMSTERDAM -
Louis van Gaal will go to Manchester United. The coach of the Dutch team did last night reached an agreement with the English club. Van Gaal (62) negotiated the last few days in the Portuguese Algarve, where he has a nice villa with Ed Woodward, one of the Glazer brothers and a lawyer on a multi-million contract.

It's nice they're housemates already

Another problem may arise...

Rooney may be expecting to be captain next season.
Van persie is current netherlands captain, presumably picked by VG.
Will proper piss off rooney if he chooses RVP over rooney.

I think the denied by club part should be removed from the thread title. It doesn't really reflect the situation because that was before Moyes was sacked.

Captains are chosen on certain traits the manager looks for, it's his choice. If Rooney is pissed, he will have to learn how to go on without creating a fuss if he wants to stay in the team with Van Gaal. Rooney won't get away with the stuff he did to get better contracts.

Who cares if it will piss off Rooney? He needs a good punch to get off his high horse again and get real.

How is this a problem? How important is a captain in any case? If it were me, I'd make De Gea the captain to show the others that only performance counts.

Well, thats all very well and good, and i don't disagree with the sentiment but is not a good way to start as far as team cohesion goes. Whenever rooney is unhappy it distracts this club for way longer than it ever should do.

So Rooney should be left to walk all over the club just to remain happy? He should be treated like every other player, he's not special.

Great. So we've sacked Moyes to give us time to look for a new boss...then just gone and immediately hired some make do bloke on no other basis than because he was the easiest available person to get?

Good to know the club is being run like a circus now.

Its not the captain that's important (although I think it is) that's the point, its the pissing off of a massive ego in the dressing room. As I say, whenever rooney gets pissed off it distracts the club massively as the press love a good unhappy rooney at utd, especially with a new manager.

I'm not saying we shouldnt piss off rooney or that he should be kept as captain, just saying its going to be a (possible) annoying problem

I thought we would take a week more at least

Appointing before the close season gives no obvious benefit

If this is because LVG wanted assurance that he was not being played by us, well I do not know how it could have been managed better but I would have preferred to try and get a few more options sounded out (perhaps the club did that already?)

Bit baffling

More like the only available one to get.

I don't see how this ends well. Van Gall isn't a good fit for United at all and it's blatantly clear that zero thought or planning has been put into choosing him.

It's embarassing.

Clearly I didnt say that.

Read my last post
I didn't say you said that. :) It's more of a question targeted towards Rooney's character because I'm sure he will react very badly if he was promised being captain under Moyes and it's taken away from him by Van Gaal. I just think that as a club we need to establish a line and when he crosses it, that's it with him. Used to happen quite often at Manchester United when Sir Alex was much younger. A player crosses that line and he's packing before he even knows it.
