OK, i guess i'm the only one here who saw a very happy man who was celebrating the double (and looking forward to play in the CL final in a week's time) and probably had drunk a couple of beers before picking up the microphone in that video.
I also have to say i'm surprised by the number of physiognomists here, so many people who can spot an authoritarian personality just by watching 2-3 videos, reading 4-5 articles and interviews of some of his former players. Next time we want an opinion on SAF i suggest we ask Keane, Stam and Rooney what they think of him. Or if Pep becomes available we should also over analyze the issue and find him not good enough because of his "megalomania" which was 100% proven when he told Messi and co. that he believes he's as great as Gandhi..... Like we know anything about man management. Journalists will do anything to find a good story, and now that their favorite topic of the season (poor StevieG) has bottled things up, the next United manager is going to monopolize the news.
Back to the football, i couldn't find Rio's whole interview on the net. From what i've heard he wants to stay at the club for at least one more year. If that's true, he should realize that with van Gaal is more likely to get that chance. I don't know any other (available) managers who rate the CBs' ability to create attacking movements from behind as highly as LvG. I believe Rio is clever and understands football better than that.
There are also concerns about Rooney (again), that LvG will make van Persie United's main man and that Rooney will find it difficult to cope with the new status quo within the club. I can't predict the future, but i do know that Rooney has played wherever SAF has told him to play and he is one of the most talented and intelligent players in our squad. I remember him chasing the opposition LB down the corner flag playing as a winger, i also remember him tackling and closing down opponents as a CM and i've seen how much he worked and changed his style and movement to play behind the forward. Plus he's got the new contract he wanted.
If van Gaal decides he wants someone else as captain, then we'll see what happens. But i think he'll have other priorities when he gets here, Young's first touch for example. Which brings me to the matter of assessing the squad. This is one of the main reasons i want LvG to be our next manager. I think he already has a pretty good idea about where the squad needs to be strengthened and which players fit into his plans. And he has a history of not keeping in the squad players when he doesn't have faith in them. We could use this lack of sentimentality right now.
The man has created one of the best football teams ever, he has put AZ on the Dutch football map and he was good enough to become the manager of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and the Netherlands. Are there any other candidates with that CV?
