Welbeck

Thought he had great potential all along. He is proving me right. If he keeps up his development he can be at this club for many years to come. Just needs to show even more of that goal threat he has.

Doesn't have the pace of Walcott but more of a physical element to his game. He will end up, up front.

I wonder what some of the people who commented negatively on Welbeck are saying now.

Those of us who've been banging on about him for several years are feeling more smug than usual.

(Someone said he had a poor first touch the other day didn't they, Mcfeckwit?)

Still think he´s a striker, from what I´ve seen of him in the Academy and Reserves that´s his strongest position, but he did well on the right today and it´s good to see he can play there against good teams, it will help him get games.

I said he had poor touches but always left the field having done something very good in the final third, on that occasion his assist - which happened to be a first time pass.

He had more poor touches today by the way. Doesnt mean he didnt also have a very good game, almost in my top 3 for man of the match.

No more than anyone else, the pitch was lousy. I think you assume his way of controlling the ball is a sometimes a poor touch, his style is deceptive, he has legs of elastic. I am glad you like young Danny, he's going to be a huge asset to this grat club over the next fifteen years.

well I think playing on the right suited him as he found more space in the first half and his control was very good - which I think let him down in recent appearences

The mazy dribble - typical welbeck, is a shame his effort got blocked. He's still a kid and any similarities are premature. If he turns out half as good as henry was then great! but it's a looooooong road.

Sadly most of the team switched off second half so welbeck didn't produce much second half

No, I agree.

I just meant that a bunch of times in the previous match and once or twice again tonight the ball ran away from his control or today he tried to control the ball once and it went under his foot. Poor touches, but yes every footballer has them. Absolutely. I can remember when Beckham was being hyped as "world class" as a 24/25 year old and the ball ran under his foot and out for a throw in almost every other match.

As an 18 year old of course its common he has a few bad touches, so in no way was I attempting to slight him. It was just a note on his performance that night. But he has impressed me recently, including tonight where he had a few good runs and passes, and he also worked his socks off doing his defensive duties too.

But that's a stupid quote. Pretty much the only thing those players have in common with Welbeck is the position they play.
Indeed Pogue, I have been pointing out those who were too quick to dismiss the Barry Manilow UK Fan Club President and excellent prospect that is the recently turned 18, Danny Welbeck. "One L in Welbeck, there's only one L in Welbeck.."

Ekeke has unfortunately noticed Danny's worth so I needed a new target.

Just looking back at the game yesterday, and he was truely brilliant 1st half

He just kept plucking the ball out of the air with his lanky legs. Great control, fast and can take a man on.

Who thinks he'll 'make it' here?

to all those questioning his position, he's a striker.

could have a great partnership with Rooney. i can really see it working.

has always reminded me of Henry (even has the same 'started as a winger, got turned into a forward' in his back story) and sometimes reminds me of Saha in his decision making.

he's got a great temperment as well, a great kid to have in the squad.

Cracking goal. I've very excited about Welbeck's potential.

I reckon he'll make it.

Class act.

Fantastic finish today.

Very exciting player. I really hope he manages to live up to his potential.
