West Bromwich Albion vs. Manchester United

Rooney has been terrible IMO. Put Kagawa on in his place and keep going for the second goal. Don't understand why we sat back after taking the lead, West Brom are utterly dogshite. The ref... well, the less said the better.

That still wouldn't make it deliberate though if he couldn't get his arm out of the way. Until I see it again though I don't know whether I think it was deliberate or not.
It doesn't need to be deliberate if it denies a clear goal scoring opportunity.

He isn't a great passer, no, but every time he gets it he looks to pass it forward. It's a nice change to what we see from some of the others.

Aye. Always positive which is good to see.

Rafael been our best player IMO. Evra been very good too. Smalling and jones being decent but anichebe is bullying them a bit. Rvp and Rooney a bit ineffective, things aren't coming off for januzaj really but he's had a few good moments. Basically everyone has just been a bit meh, average all around apart from the fullbacks.

A few are a bit blinded by a need to defend Fellaini as a warped defence of Moyes so not surprising. He is just too clumsy for a central midfielder.

Agreed.

It's a noble sentiment to rush to the defense of a maligned footballer, but the fact remains undisputed that Fellaini is not a Man United quality midfielder. Unless, of course, we're okay with being a seventh place club.

Wouldn't say Rooney has played poorly. Quiet, definitely. But when on the ball, he hasn't really done much wrong. He's opened up the play well, but apart from that he has been a bit invisible.

Mata  Smalling looks sorted in defence. We've missed Rafael's attacking input at right back clearly.

Could plausibly be a score draw at the moment even before the Foster incident.

Our attacking play is...well it's slow and not as diverse as it should be. You also worry that if West Brom can create this many opportunities what may City or Liverpool do. The front six players have yet to turn up at this party in a meaningful way [Get Danny and Shinji on standby].

Not a brilliant game but we're in front. *shrugs*

I thought it's been a decent half so far but we do look a bit open, I'm not sure we really need to push Fellaini up as high as we do, would much rather have him covering and give more freedom to mata/januzaj. Someone needs to slap phil jones as well, good goal but he's having a mare defensively.

I think though we're still seeing what is probably the biggest stumbling block in getting that front four to click which is Rooneys lack of comfort in picking the ball up facing his own goal and being able to turn away from his man. He's just so much more comfortable getting it and giving it back or knocking it wide which isn't ideal when you have januzaj/mata as you want them linking up inside. Its just not his strength there and something he'll need to get more comfortable with.

I think the full backs have been pushing up well, just need that final ball to be good enough, but main issue is getting those front four linking up a lot more than they are.

Ok half. Not been great and could go either way if it continues like this. We need to speed up our play. Its just all so static. Goal came from a great set piece but apart from that, there was nothing except Raf's chance.

I think people overstate everything he does. I saw a lot of needless clumsy fouls and misplaced passes inviting pressure on United today. Yes I did seee him getting it forward, but for me the others mentioned have been less of a liability.

For the amount Rooney is getting paid, I expect far more. His touch, control and creativity for a #10 is just not great.

Most over-rated footballer on the planet. Never seen a so called top player with such a disgusting bottom level.

So you agree with him that he's been our worst player this half ?
I don't know if he's been the word performing player, but he's clearly out of place ability wise compared to the rest of the team. In that respect, he's our worst player, performance wise he's been pretty much like everyone else, just decent.

Sorry to break the news, but it was not deliberate. No handball.

How many times is a handball actually ever deliberate though?
Yet decisions are given.

You can't handball it outside the box and not give a free kick.
Maybe not a red card under the circumstances, but definitely a free kick.

But it has denied a goal scoring opportunity either way

It's like saying if you accidentally foul someone it's not a foul. Mad

That is for another debate (and I agree that he isn't good enough to start - or probably be even in the bench of a top team). The point is that today he wasn't bad and there have been a few players worse than him in our team today which makes the critics a bit biased and unfair.

I just went to the toilet in the pub I'm in, there was this guy diligently washing his hands, really making sure they were properly washed. Despite there being 2 hand dryers of the high speed quick dry variety, he wiped his hands on the back of his trousers. :wenger:

Albion haven't shown much invention going forward. Just the usual blunt instruments applied against Jones and Smalling. We look a lot better balanced with Rafael in the side. Should step up a gear in the second half and win this comfortably.

No excuses when we have the ball wide and there is a huge space centrally on the edge of the box but Carrick decides to ignore it and sit back forcing us to cross the ball. We'd be a very dangerous side if our players would stop refusing to find this space and receive the pass. Our play lacks balls.

I don't know why, but there was something quite satsifying about seeing Moyes go ape-shit on the touchline a couple of times in that half.

Surely it does because if it isn't deliberate it isn't a foul.

What happens if the defender is so shit, he slips while attempting a clearance and ends up wacking the ball away with his arm as he falls down? Surely he should be punished for his shitness; even if not intentional?

Fellaini has given the ball away the second least in the team.

Not sure what the composure stuff is about, he can look clumsy but he played some clever passes forward throughout that half.
It's like they're watching another game, I just can't think of another explanation. Fellaini hasn't given the ball away that often at all and he's given the right pass more often than not. A lot of forward moves actually started with him playing a good first ball forward. It's never spectacular but almost always useful. Many just aren't giving him a chance.

At least it wasn't the back of YOUR trousers. :D
