World Cup 2018 & 2022 bids

How much is it going to cost you to host it if you win? Not including any incoming monies from tourism etc.

Not to sure on the actual cost but it would be less than it would cost the other 3 bids. Should England win only 4 new stadiums will need to be built (Bristol City/Liverpool/Tottenham/Forest). Other Stadiums like MK Dons/Plymouth/Sheff Wed/Leeds will be upgraded. When you look at how many Stadiums Russia need to build, it will cost them a fortune compared to England.

Aye. Just curious what the figure is, not criticising the spending of it.

Nothing.

The Irish will pay for it through interest charged on their loan.

Only if we pay. I reckon we've seen something in the small print that we can take advantage of.

Considering whom the Irish just gave there loan money to, I reckon they may renege on the deal, and it will time for the baliffs.

Plus we'll have the new Olympic stadium, which will be good for both WC and Olympic funding to be used for both and prevent it becoming another white elephant....for about 3 months at least.

£700 million I think was the amount in the bid. Again due to us already having the Fifa required infrastructure.

Hmmm. I was assuming it would be a couple of times higher than that. That seems very reasonable given the scale of the tournament.

Saying everyone in Russia is racist is a bit racist. Spain still has problems wih Racism, as does Italy, especially in Football. We do to in England, just a hell of a lot less. You have to give countries the chance to host things and prove as they always do, that they are just like the rest of us.

I'm not saying everyone is racist. I'm saying they are institutionally racist. Hence there lack of offical action despite frequent and obvious displays of racism from fans and players alike.

I don't see why they should be given the world cup to prove they can do it when the prospect of being given the world cup doesn't seem to have engendered any improvement.

I can't be sure but I think thats what was stated in the bid report.

The Bidder has submitted an expenditure budget of USD 722.9 million (current) for a FIFA Confederations Cup and FIFA World Cup™ in 2017 and 2018. The budget has been submitted in the format required with supporting information. A projection of approximately 3,397,000 sellable tickets has been made.

Guess what, the Chinese are institutionally racist as well, just not in the same way we in the west are, they're also commies, we shouldn't give them the chance to host any major tournaments either. I'm of the belief that every country is institutionally racist. All we've done in the UK and other similar countries is learn that it's naughty, so we don't say it in public anymore, yet still think or say it in private. The actual removal of racism is going to take a lot more than than just a couple of campaigns but an evolution of the way we think that can only happen over a period of Generations. Russia is a country that was practically reborn just over 20 years ago. Give them a chance to catch up.

Have just got round to watching the England bid, not bad.. not bad at all.. the snippets I've seen of Arshavin were class lol

China is a fair observation but to generalise about everyone being insitutionally racist is just complete bollocks. Even most Russians I know admit it is a problem.

Yes give them a chance to catch up but it needs to start with at least some centralised programme and if the prospect of WC isn't enough then I think it's not unreasonable to say it devalues their 'We haven't had it yet' spiel.

Did i hear wrong or did one of the guys from England's bid said that the best players in the world play in England?

The bid proposes 12 candidate Host Cities and 17 stadiums, thus exceeding FIFA’s minimum requirement. Five of the 17 stadiums already exist and would be renovated, five are to be built or are already under construction, and seven are built with no further renovation indicated. A stadium construction and renovation budget of USD 2.54 billion has been projected.

How will that be funded?

Which if they get it and they realise they are going to be playing hosts to every creed and race in the world I'm certain they will start to address in some measure. Just as everyother country has done. Guess what the UK was horrendously racist as little as 30 years, the vast majority of the people who were doing it then are still around today, it was even worse as you go back each decade, same can be said for every developed country. Anyway lets just agree to disagree on this subject.

From BBC Brazil's Anelise Infante in Madrid: "The Spanish media believe that the Iberian bid would get at least nine votes from: Cameroon, Qatar, Ivory Cost, Egypt, Turkey, Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Spain. The president of the Spanish Football Federation, Angel Maria Villar, has tried to woo the representative of Guatemala, as well."

Wow...9 votes in the 1st round from 22.

Only 13 votes between England and Russia...is there a chance of England getting knocked out in the 1st round of voting?

Why didn't the English offer deals to Cameroon and Egypt?

*Note it says...it 'believes'

From the BBC

1346: We haven't had much in the way of info from Zurich since the presentations ended - blame Fifa's secret ballot for that. But, with just over an hour to go until the winners are announced, here's some breaking news - and it is quite encouraging too. BBC Sport's editor David Bond says a Fifa executive committee member has told him that England's presentation has made a "big difference". How big? We will have to wait and see...

If it happens Beck's grandad should get a posthumous knighthood.

Sure let's agree to disagree. But, out of interest, what requirements do you have of a bid then? Beyond let's give people a chance?

Finally got a chance to watch the full England presentation.

 It's powerful, it's impressive. They have done us proud and it's over to FIFA now. We can use the strength and popularity of English football to leave a lasting legacy worldwide. Please let this be our time.

It's been targeted quite well to appeal to true football fans. Those videos in particular were enough to whet the appetite with anticipation.

Same as everyone else. The only time I would dam a bid is when that bid would actually harm the population of the country. Don't get me wrong, I hope those racist commies don't get the world cup either. I want the pure and gentle people of the green and pleasant pastures of England to host our game (which is ours no matter what Fifa or prince william says).

I've just watched our presentation.

Aside from resurrecting Admiral Lord Nelson I doubt we could have had a better English Contingent. Plus, it's always risky resurrecting ancient military generals, no doubt he'd have sank the Spanish presentation and probably had a quick pop at Russia too. Well.

We obviously deserve it most, if Russia win Putin has obviously threatened to wrestle Blatter.

If it ends in a tie between Russia and any of the other bids you best believe that Blatter will vote for the russians.

And what is more our clubs are by and large in a position where they can fund upgrades and newly built stadiums themselves and won't have to rely on public funds.

Around here the so called experts on tv say its between Spain/Portugal and Russia with Russia being the favorites.

Do you remember that old Tango advert where the guy in the office marched to a boxing ring in the middle of the countryside, removing his suit and appearing in boxing shorts along the way, shouting angrily at someone?

That post just gave me the image of Putin doing that.

I've only watched the England and United States presentations and our's was miles in front of their's.

I really hope we don´t get it.

Considering the big economic story at the moment in Europe is questioning whether or not the Portuguese Government will need a multi billion bailout or not it would be questionable to say the least.

I just watched the bid presentation. It kept getting stronger and stronger The whole United thing is a masterstroke and imo will be the difference.

On a lighter note having to see gerrard say united was priceless!
