I want to say this is all Woody's doing. Maybe after failing to include Benzema in the deal, he said "Ramos then". Madrid replied with no. Ramos thinks "Ah new deal time". Doesn't get it. Talks with Madrid about it. Bad blood. Suddenly Ramos to United is on.
This is all Woody.
There's no way Madrid envisioned any of this involving Ramos. He's been angling for an improved contract since 2013 and has been rebuffed time and time again. Back before he just turned 29 and months away from qualifying for a free bus pass and heating allowance.Or, they're going to take arguably the best keeper in the world for a fraction of his true value and then offset his already low price by selling us a 29 year old centre half for over £40m, in the face of him wanting a massive new contract and they'll replace him with a player who's younger, costs less and wants less in wages.
They thought with him being Spanish and heir to Casillas captaincy for club and country that they could take him for granted and it's come back and bit them where it hurts.
Madrid could have sold Ramos without all this if they wanted to. Wrap up Otamendi before selling Ramos and move on, but they didn't. Now they're losing their best central defender and having to play catch up with the English sides who are in advanced talks with the Valencia man.
Against English sides who can offer him more wages thanks to the strength of the Euro and the new Spanish 50% tax. Coupled with dealing with a fellow La Liga side who would rather sell abroad than to the Madrid giants.
