I want to say this is all Woody's doing. Maybe after failing to include Benzema in the deal, he said "Ramos then". Madrid replied with no. Ramos thinks "Ah new deal time". Doesn't get it. Talks with Madrid about it. Bad blood. Suddenly Ramos to United is on.

This is all Woody.

Or, they're going to take arguably the best keeper in the world for a fraction of his true value and then offset his already low price by selling us a 29 year old centre half for over £40m, in the face of him wanting a massive new contract and they'll replace him with a player who's younger, costs less and wants less in wages.
There's no way Madrid envisioned any of this involving Ramos. He's been angling for an improved contract since 2013 and has been rebuffed time and time again. Back before he just turned 29 and months away from qualifying for a free bus pass and heating allowance.
They thought with him being Spanish and heir to Casillas captaincy for club and country that they could take him for granted and it's come back and bit them where it hurts.
Madrid could have sold Ramos without all this if they wanted to. Wrap up Otamendi before selling Ramos and move on, but they didn't. Now they're losing their best central defender and having to play catch up with the English sides who are in advanced talks with the Valencia man.
Against English sides who can offer him more wages thanks to the strength of the Euro and the new Spanish 50% tax. Coupled with dealing with a fellow La Liga side who would rather sell abroad than to the Madrid giants.

Of all the players i'd have guessed would become this summers saga, Ramos was not he. Ol' Woody is nothing if not original.

What's this then? What did it used to be? Isn't it 50% here too for high earners?

What do our scouts be getting up to anyway? Because this is another opportunist signing that I'm guessing we weren't prepared for, not that I'm complaining.

I'm pretty sure van Gaal is still a fan of Spanish football, he made comments about the classico's quite often. I don't think he needs to know much more about Ramos than what he's already seen, Ramos fits the profile of a van Gaal centreback nearly perfectly.

It was 26% or something for foreign players playing in Spain. The Beckham law.
That's been repealed and now stands at 52%.

Of course not much needs to be known about Ramos, he's a proven quality centre-back. I'm just saying a lot of our recent transfers have been opportunist signings that I'm guessing players haven't been extensively watched or bids prepared, so I'm wondering who we are scouting.

I think Hummels was our plan "A" while Otamendi was our plan "B".
Ramos became available and he became our plan "A".

If we manage to keep DDG (which by this stage I doubt) it would be amazing.... well a RB would be amazing too, but I am sure LVG doesn't plan to go into next season with Valencia as his starting RB.

Yeah I would guess we were watching Hummels and Ottamendi too, funny how quickly things can change as soon as another player maybe becomes available.

Someone needs to photoshop Woodward dangling de Gea on a fishing rod over Real Madrid as Ramos lurks with dollar symbols for eyes.

It's an old change, iirc.
I know, don't know why I typed new lol.
It really takes effect around now though, all those contract renewals in a squad made up of 80% foreigners will take it's effect.

Don't give Marca ideas.

I reckon Woody is the sort of guy who makes enquiries on entire squads on FM to unsettle them just for the feck of it.

Type to kill relationships between two clubs to.

"Hey, the City chairman called you a cnut and a thief"

Nonsense, Marca are extremely biased imo.

I wasn't stating whether it was true or false, I was backing up that the line has a proper source rather than being made up.

Anyway, the rejected bid is true. See the Tweets thread.

Probably been answered somewhere in the thread but I will ask again. What is his contract situation with Real? Anyone know when his current deal expires?

2017 I think. We cannot wait until the end of his deal and snap him up because he'll be 31.

Something like this?

I was wondering if we could get him a bit cheaper if his deal expired in 12 months or so, but yeah if it is 2017 then we will have to pay the full worth.

A defence of....

rojo-Ramos-otemendi-Dani alves

would've been LVG's wet dream with all them tattoos, we all know he has a tattoo fetish now.

It's funny how certain some posters are about Ramos' situation at Madrid like they are one of his best pals.

I know this is a forum where opinions are welcomed but it irritates me when posters say 'he's using us for a bigger contract' or 'he's wanted a bigger contract since 2013 and Perez doesn't want to give it him'. It's all opinion and speculation which is good until it's spouted as gospel truth. Maybe Ramos isn't happy with the new manager, the board, Perez, or wants a new challenge. Who knows.

I don't understand the new Independent article, it says at the start that Ramos is keen to get things sorted in the new two weeks so he doesn't have to go on the tour, yet later on it says there will now be a two week cooling off period.

If we're 'cooling off' for two weeks then that says to me that nothing will happen in that time frame, or am I been stupid?
