Angel Di Maria | Performances | Wife: "He only joined United for money. The food was disgusting. The women look like porcelain"

I've said it all along. LvG messed him around, which ruined his confidence and form.

Di Maria has always being an inconsistent player. Surround him with world class (at least 3 or 4) players that carry the weight of the team, and he will shine. But if you play him with average players, he is not a game changer nor a match winner on his own.

He was bought for 60M to be our main man... he was always going to fail. He doesn't have the mentality to be the main man, never did. Not Van Gaal fault in my opinion. His fault was going for him instead of Alexis, but that's another story.

Not saying he made a bad decision. What im saying is, a different player might see that he needs to prove his worth to English/Man Utd fans.Bastian left a team where he can almost guarantee a trophy each season to come to us.

Different players, different mentalities.

Schweinsteiger came to United to play football. He wouldn't have started for Bayern.

Di Maria would start for United and PSG. So the situation is quite different.

Schweinsteiger for sure would have started for Bayern. Like Rooney does for United... He had the status at Bayern that he usually would not be benched.

But not enough of a status to keep him from being sold?

We need right winger. Di Maria is playing in that position for PSG and now he has more goals than our strikers this season. Also, I think he's the second best with assistance in Europe behind Ozil.

We are playing Mata and Lindgard in that position. When PSG has Lucas Moura to cover Di Maria in the wing.

I hope we sign a world class players like Griezmann as an attacking midfielder/winger.

He asked to be sold. Nobody at Bayern pushed him out of the club.

More than that, they publicly stated they wanted him to stay.

Di Maria can do what he wants in the French league, it doesn't mean we made a mistake selling him or we didn't use him properly. He didn't cut it in England for whatever reason and he wasn't indispensable in Spain either.

Mhmm. Because clubs always tell the truth in public.

It was pretty well documented for a long time that Bayern were not going to offer Schweinsteiger another contract beyond the one he had which expired at the end of this season. At that point, they were hoping he'd make a big money move to another poor (a la MLS or Middle East) league and have the send off appropriate for a club legend. When Bastian said in the media he wants to play at a high level for another 3 years, Bayern knew they didn't want to offer him such a contract and let him leave because they owed that much to him.

If you believe anything other than the above, then you are wrong. Because Schweinsteiger's case has been fairly well documented.

I won't claim to know more about happened behind the scenes than I do. But I do get the slightest feeling that ADM is the kind of chap that needs a manager unlike LVG when he's moved to a country/league which he's struggling to adapt to. I mean, just imagine if we could have made it work. He's a fantastic football and exactly what we needed. Maybe that's why I get that feeling - because the thought of it working was great.

Scored a cracker tonight.

Looks to be doing alright, could've been a great player for us if only we had a better manager for him when he came.

If its so well documented you'll have no problem posting reliable sources then? At least equal to the club Chairman (who said he wanted him to stay)

He wasn't that good today apart from the goal but that was a great goal, his 5th in 5 games.

It seems a lot of people are giving ADM a hard time for wanting to go to a team which he perceived to be better.
By the same token, we should've put Ronaldo into the reserves or sold him the moment he wanted to go to Madrid. What happened was Fergie said that he wanted Ronaldo to give us 1 more year, before he left for Madird, which he did and Fergie made good on his promise.
Same with DDG. This guy fought tooth and nail to go to Madrid a few months back. But for a cock-up with his paperwork, the guy stayed at MUFC. He still wants to jump ship and may do so in a few months. Maybe we should throw him into the reserves and say he is weak, poor (or any other derogatory term)?
Di Maria, asked for the same thing that DDG asked for and he got it.

My opinion is that we should be doing everything possible to keep the best players at the club. And to do this, requires great man-management - a skill which LVG scores low in.
Anyway, I'm happy for him that he is enjoying his football in Paris. Conversely, I am disappointed that we are struggling to score goals - something which ADM could've helped us out with.

Just saw a stat about Ligue 1 this year: PSG have 16 more points at this stage than they did last year, and 9 more than in 13/14 (which was already an excellent season for them). It's ridiculous.

They have Ibrahimovic, Di Maria, Cavani, Moura - they are basically France's version of Madrid (ie. packed with expensive Galacticos).
It looks like they are genuine contenders in the CL.

He was our most productive attacker last season (assists+goals), even though he played far fewer minutes than our other attackers.
On what basis are you saying he didn't cut in England? Genuine question.

If anyone 'didn't cut it' in that matter, it was Man Utd. Man Utd didn't cut it with Di Maria, not the other way round.

I didn't like him and thought he was a pussy. But I also think he could have been one of our greatest players

A monumental cock up by all involved and depresses me whenever I see his name

Looks like there's a slight deflection.

He's been fantastic for you, at the end of the day all he needed was a bit of freedom and trust to run the show and take risks. Under our rigid structure and system (especially after the 5-3 Leicester loss) he was never going to get that.

Great buy for a world class player at a cut price.

I watched him...

Actually i thought he was much better than a lot give him credit for, but you cant possibly say he did well in England. What hes doing in a second rate league now is irrelevant.

You only need to watch his last season in madrid and his first few games with us to see this is completely untrue

So true. Now the next step is the CL playoffs.

I hope he can take his match winning form to the biggest games.

Weird choice of players to name in Cavani and Moura. Verratti, Matuidi, Motta and Aurier are much more relevant for them.

LOL

But 7 out of 10 are going to be a good shot, so I'd let him take the risk

Riquelme: "Barcelona is the Club who made it possible for me to get to Europe. Speaking about that experience, I always try to take the best from it. I had to have Van Gaal as the Manager, who is one of the few people who is going tell you the things in your face. When I arrived he told me that I was there because of the President and not because of him, that he didn't ask for me. So since then I realised I wasn't going to play. I prefer it that way, he was honest. And he wanted me to play in the left side. I said there was no problem but I couldn't take it. On the third match, I went into the middle. We beat Racing Santander 2-1, I gave the two assists to Kluivert. The day after that, I was in every newspaper, they said I played really well giving my two assists. I got to the training session and he was really angry with me, saying all was wrong, that I had to play in the left side and that I desobeyed him"

Here's Van Gaal taking Riquelme out, and the Nou Camp goes mad

I actually think van Gaal ruined Riquelme's European career. He was great at Villarreal for 4 years and basically engineered their whole game but he never played for one of the best clubs in Europe.

Van Gaal being mad at player for playing well because of the fact that he's not playing well thanks to van Gaal genius is something I can somehow imagine.
