I don't agree.
If we switch to a 5-man midfield and lone striker system, which I think Ramos wants to do, and with 45m to spend (let's say) from selling Keane and Berbatov, Spurs could well end up with a stronger, more effective team. We might score a bit less, but concede far fewer and win a lot more games.
Let's say, for arguments sake, that Spurs use the 45m to sign Bentley, Veloso, plus another striker (Milito say) to provide competition/cover for Bent (and to also give us 4-4-2 options). 45m would cover the cost of 3 such players:
------- Huddlestone ---- Veloso
Bentley ---- Modric ------ Dos Santos
------------- Bent
That line up (or one of similar quality) looks pretty good to me - by no remote stretch could it be called 'completely fecked'. And Dos Santos, remember, can also operate as a 2nd striker.
The lone striker would receive plenty of service and support from all directions and angles in that midfield, all the more so with Hutton and Bale as the two wing-backs.
