Berbatov

What happened to that United.no article? I can't see it on the front page, and the link earlier in this thread isn't working. Were they asked to remove, or am I being stupid?

They removed it

And I'm sure he'd happily sign for Barcelona. Why wouldnt he?

It says on United.no that they chose to remove the article when the english media started to contact them about it. The editor writes that he don't want Ferguson's quotes to be presented wrongly in the media.

That story from marca or goal.com is most likely a bullshit story that they have dreamed up.

Anyway its stupid how tottenham could consider themselves rivals with us and if they have come out with this statement it's probably ramos's way of stating the clubs future ambitions. I suspect however it is bullshit from the top drawer.

spurs would not lose out on 6-8 million selling him to another club rather than us, they are far to financially astute for that. Couldn't the just put in a clause saying he can't play againstt spurs next season???? doubt SAF would allow it though.

This is the most pathetic thing i have seen lately.

How old are you mate?

The editor of the Norwegian website could have speculated the name of the player so now they've removed the online article.

If Barcelona actually are interested I could see that happening, negotiations would be easier between those teams thats for sure. Plus Spurs dont want to be improving their "Rivals" for the title now do they!!!

They have confirmed they are moving on from Eto'o Formula. Bojan and Henry were on the outside of their three man attack when Eto'o was avalable last year.

Eto'o is leaving, Henry hasnt been played as a CF and with the interest in Adebayor, it's obvious they want a striker - to replace Eto'o. Why wouldnt they be interested in Berbatov?

Chelsea?

I doubt Milan have much wedge left.

There's gonna be an almighty centre-forward merry-go-round at some point in the next month, isn't there? It's just waiting for one massive signing to start the funds-a-flowing.

I guess.

Chelsea really should be pulling out all the stops to sign him, considering his comments about signing for whoever will pay him most. Maybe they are waiting to see what happens with Drogba first, as they want to keep him and apparently he'll sign a new 2 year deal if nothing happens in the next 10 days.

Problem is Pogue it does not look like Drogba is going anywhere now, there has even been talk from his agent of signing a new deal. If he went the merry go round would definitely start up.

No, that would be highly illegal under Premier League Rules.

Where's he going then?

Kuruvchi.

Spurs are completely fecked if they get shut of Berbatov AND Keane. Surely they wouldn't be stupid enough to sell their two best players...? Oh wait, it's Spurs isn't it....

I think theyll sell berbatov but keep keane. keane loves spurs and is just as good for them as berbatov. as you say cant see them selling both.

I'd say an Arshavin-Garcia partnership would do well. It would have all of the ingredients necessary in a successful partnership. Adding Modric and Dos Santos to the team will give them creativity from midfield, which they haven't had for a few years, and their defence looks very strong. Ramos will definitely be able to keep them in 5th spot even if they lose Berbatov, and possibly even further.

It's obviously that if Spurs sell one of Berbatov or Keane the other remains.

Having seen the Spurs squad lately they consider Dos Santos as a striker with Bent so they will only need one more striker if anyone leaves.

I don't agree.

If we switch to a 5-man midfield and lone striker system, which I think Ramos wants to do, and with 45m to spend (let's say) from selling Keane and Berbatov, Spurs could well end up with a stronger, more effective team. We might score a bit less, but concede far fewer and win a lot more games.

Let's say, for arguments sake, that Spurs use the 45m to sign Bentley, Veloso, plus another striker (Milito say) to provide competition/cover for Bent (and to also give us 4-4-2 options). 45m would cover the cost of 3 such players:

------- Huddlestone ---- Veloso
Bentley ---- Modric ------ Dos Santos
------------- Bent

That line up (or one of similar quality) looks pretty good to me - by no remote stretch could it be called 'completely fecked'. And Dos Santos, remember, can also operate as a 2nd striker.

The lone striker would receive plenty of service and support from all directions and angles in that midfield, all the more so with Hutton and Bale as the two wing-backs.

Come on now Glaston... losing both Berbatov and Keane would be seriously damaging.
Would it? Berbatov is not motivated to play for us anymore - better to have someone who is. And if Keane loses his main strike partner and we switch to a 4-2-3-1 system, then I don't really see Keane fitting into that very well.

Besides, £45m would go a long way.

Do you think the 'front 6' line-up I posted above looks weak? If so, why?

Dont know why you think Bentley is the next big thing. Surely a good player but not the next Ronaldo or Messi. Bentley is not better than Lennon IMO. I think if you lose Berbatov or Keane then should keep the other one and bring just a quality striker. That 5 men midfield can work in some games but for the majority of the games you need two strikers.

Another thing is you have too many midfielders in your squad. Dont you wanna get rid of some of them?

Ramos Quote

“At Tottenham, we have had a clear philosophy regarding buying and selling for years. The idea is signing young players, promising and talented ones, and if important offers for older players are made, studying it to see what is the best for the club.”

This sounds like 1 or 2 are on the way out.

agreed but i dont know why you keep thinking bent will be your main man all of a sudden. you seen something that suggests ramos likes him??

Dont buy into the arguement that if one of keane or berba goes the other will stay, in fact the other way round. if one goes im pretty sure the other goes...and i know 1 is going because berbatov left last season

... Bentley .. Surely a good player but not the next Ronaldo or Messi. ...
I'm not claiming that he is, but that's hardly a criticism of Bentley is it?

Bentley is not better than Lennon IMO.
I'm not saying he's necessarily better - that remains to be seen. But he's a very different type of player from Lennon (who I see staying with Spurs in any case) and so provides us with an additional set of options.

... That 5 men midfield can work in some games but for the majority of the games you need two strikers.
I don't really agree with that. Besides, Dos Santos can operate as a 2nd striker so the example line-up I gave would be flexible. In any case I'd anticipate us signing at least one new striker if both Keane and Berbatov leave.

Another thing is you have too many midfielders in your squad. Dont you wanna get rid of some of them?
I agree we now have too many midfielders, although playing with a 5-man midfield means that you need more midfielders than otherwise

But we are likely to ship out some of the fringe midfielders: Ghaly and Tainio for example.

Do you think the 'front 6' line-up I posted above looks weak? If so, why?

Turnover of players especially two of your best ones is always going to be damaging even if it is just an adjustment period, that six also depends on future transfers. Tactically of course if Ramos gets it right you should concede less and it wont be the case of you score five we will score six. However, do you really see Bent, Dos Santos and the new forwards being mentioned having the quality to win tight tactical games for you on their own. Berbatov and Keane are capable of that.

This isn't such a far fetched idea. Further more if Bent stays he might finally show the form he had at Charlton. Which with the better service at Spurs would make him quite an asset to have.

If Keane and Berbatov both leave then I'm sure we'll sign a new striker - and depending on who that is then maybe the new player (and not Bent) would be the main man in a lone striker system.

I'm only saying that Bent is used to the lone striker system and suits it well. His league goals record at Charlton was excellent, so I see no reason why he couldn't duplicate that at Spurs given a regular run of games - especially with a strong attacking midfield in support, far better than he ever had at Charlton.

I agree with those who say this isn't a bad idea. Spurs' style of play would have to change but to be honest, losing two influential players like Berbatov and Keane, it would be expected a change could be made in the style of play.

With Bent up front, the signing of Bentley would be key as Bent thrives from crosses and Bentley provides an excellent service.

So after his comments today about us having put in a bid for someone, are we all thinking it is Berbatov? Or is it somebody else?

It would be damaging though, losing both your top players.

After all one is tried and tested, working brilliantly, whilst the other is a whole new tactic and players.

On paper it could be feasible but not everything on paper works.

PS. Maybe you should have kept Defoe.
