Bayern München v Manchester United

I'm disappointed Fellaini is out. I probably wouldn't have started him anyway, but he is a weapon off the bench if we need a goal or to hold the ball up front if we do get in front and have to hold onto a lead. Really hope we can nick a goal just to really shock them. Have this bad feeling that they will be switched on though :(. Particularly Robben who was poor by his standards in the first leg. Getting up at 4:30 AM to watch so please make it be worthwhile!

We need to avoid conceding an early goal, but that's just what I think Bayern will go for, knowing that a second on top will mean we need 2. Whilst we obviously need to score at least 1, if we need to score 2 I can see them carving us open as we push forward looking for goals. What I'd like to see though is us scoring 1 early and putting some pressure on them, then picking them off on the counter as they come forward having to score to stay in the tie. I am not sure it's going to be the cagey affair some seem to think it'll be -. I think it will be quite open.
But all we need after they score is still just to sneak in 1 goal? Obviously it's never good to concede the first goal, but I won't become instantly pessimistic if we do.

If they get one, they'll gain in confidence. If they get a second, we are really up against it. We really need to score first.

It isnt imperative, no because of the 1st leg result but an early goal for either side will considerably change the game I feel because of the psychological impact of it.

I wont be pessimistic either but it would definitely calm their nerves. The longer its at 0-0, the nervier they'l become and the more we should fancy our chances.

So long as we are creating chances and looking solid at the back, I'd be happy with that scenario too.

Is it safe to say those who weren't bothered 8 days ago have got that feeling in their bellies today?

De Gea

Smalling-Rio-Vida-Evra
Jones-Carrick
Valencia-Kagawa/Welbeck
Rooney

Kagawa and Welbeck to interchange.

0-1 with Danny to score the goal.

I was excited that day and am bloody excited today. How can one not be for a CL QF match, that too vs Bayern.

This will be the team tonight I would say. Depending on Giggs' fitness, he may come in for Kagawa. Although Kagawa impressed when he came on as a sub for Giggs last week.

No matter what, a game of this magnitude is always exciting. Also, might be the last time we see United in the CL for awhile so best to enjoy it now. (I said this before the Olympiakos second leg, lets hope it works again).

Last week I was thinking that we were going to get spanked at OT and it would just be down right miserable. Now, I've got a sneaky feeling we'll do it. Either way, I'm buzzing for the game later.

You're preaching to the choir, mate. But the strange truth is that a lot of posters, by their own admission, were numb rather than excited last Tuesday. My bet is they're every bit as excited as you and me today, as if United is some switch they can turn on and off at will, and it almost pisses me off.

We will go through today. I can just feel it!

the question is did we play good or bayern played shit

De Gea

Jones --- Ferdinand --- Vidic --- Buttner

Giggs --- Carrick --- Kagawa

Valencia ------ Rooney ------ Welbeck
Doesn't look like Felaini will be playing so bring Kagawa into the midfield to add a bit more pace. We still have Giggs/Carrick to help slow the play down if need be. I wouldn't complain if Evra starts but I feel Buttner did a good job against Robben last week so give the guy another shot.

Yes. I wasn't bothered last week as I was sure we'd be annihilated at OT. Now it's got me believing again that we can do the unthinkable. Moyes

De Gea
Jones Smalling Vidic Evra
Carrick Cleverley
Kagawa
Valencia Rooney Welbeck

I sense doubt in the Munich camp, I have no idea why, just a feeling that they are more nervous than they should be.

The record v English teams and the fact they are down to a third tier midfield (still brilliant though), they expected to beat us at home, were messing about with Rooneys fitness. Theres a feeling that we could sneak it.

However I think Pep is a lot smarter than we give him credit for. Hell definitely have a master plan to beatr us.

Neither PSG nor Madrid managed an away goal yesterday. We are going to score one or two with our 20 pct possession against the best team in Europe tonight.

NAH.

I'm slightly confident that if we turn up and play with 100% commitment we might be able to scrape it.

I thought pressing them high up the pitch in the second half was quite effective - wonder how much of that we can see today.

They bottled it against chelsea, the home crowd will put a lot of pressure on them. They will have learnt a lot about throwing that final, but there's still going to be a level of expectation on them.

If we ride out the fist 20mins defending like daemons, get the crowd on their backs, instil the doubt, we're in with a chance. We just got to keep it tight and tidy at the back and hope Rio doesn't wander off.

Unlike when he's on the pitch, not much gets past Boateng when he's off it

I'd rather have Fletcher in the middle to allow for Jones playing right back. He really did a good job in the 1st leg. I'd also take Buttner ahead of Evra, not because he's a better player, he isn't. But he maybe more careful in his positioning given he wasn't reckless in the last match. Evra will certainly need to be told to defend his space, but our team has a tendency to give him the ball and wait for something to happen.

I actually think it's a shame Fellaini misses out as they've lost two of their tall boys for this tie. Saying that, both him and Rafael would worry me in terms of getting sent off

Since last week I've felt this will end 2-2. I think if we score first tonight Bayern are in huge trouble. I'd be half inclined to go at them from the off, which will probably shock them given they have apparently prepared for our retreat. If we do score first though, I could see us winning the game.

Hernandez off the bench will be key I think.

With Evra available, but a concern at the back, it might be worth considering him for left side of midfield. He still has defensive capability, but his tracking back after runs would be less of a concern. I think his pace and technique on the counter would help us, more so than a Young for example.

Also think 4-4-2 is the right shape. I want to see us pressing Bayern early, and two attackers, Rooney and Welbeck can do that all night, plus it keeps them honest and gives us two players to hit on the out ball.

Carrick and Jones in the centre of midfield, Valencia left side, Smalling as right back.

Discipline and concentration will be the keys. Its 90 mins 11 v 11, and a 1-1 draw, the most frequent score in a football match, puts us through.

One final thought. These games are often decided by goalkeepers making saves they have no earthly right make. They have Neuer, made in Germany, we have De Gea, made in Heaven.

1-1 takes it to extra time and pens. Evra on LW is interesting but sounds a bit too risky when we would have to sacrifice a breakout player and we need to score at least a goal.

1-0 to us, sends us through. I cant see us stopping them from scoring.

As much as I feel this weird feeling well go through I can also feel a crushing disappointment when they score from a Robben in swinger :( I remember that night years ago when he scored one sending us out.

They are targeting our slow defenders, so how about we throw a spanner in the works and start Smalling and Vidic as our CBs, or even Smalling and Jones!

They don't really have pace centrally. Our fullbacks can keep their pacey players (Ribery and Robben) in check.

Off our set-pieces we will be vulnerable, this is how I see them scoring.

I pretty much see a repeat of this match happening just with less pace from us going forwards.
