Yeah I posted it earlier in the thread, not sure of the totals though. Should be able to get them from OPTA stats.
That is a very, very narrow formation and I really can't see Fergie suddenly changing a 20 year old philosphy of playing down the wings. Plus I can't see it working. We shou ldplay our strongest team, not our strongest players. There is no widthe there, Ronaldo cuts inside more often than he plays out wide, Scholes and Carrick certainly can't be expected to cover the wings and it will stifle both Rooney and Tevez as they will be expected to drop back in centre midfield and fill in out wide. In short, I don't see how that will work
Lets be honest, Rooney had a bit of a shite season last time around.
If he keeps the same form going this season, then Tevez should be ahead in the pecking order.
If Rooney becomes able to suddenly aim at, and hit a barn door soon, then Rooney should be preferred.
--------DEFENCE---------
Carrick/Hargo---Scholes/Ando
Ronaldo - Rooney - Tevez
----------Berba-------------
The Holy Trinitiy could and would be moving position all the time, and Giggs, Nani and Park would also feature

What I don't get is why do people just try and stick all the 'best' players on the pitch at once? Berba will surely be paired with either Rooney OR Tevez for the majority of the time in a fluid and interchangable 442. When all four are on at once I higly doubt they'd line up like that, as Smashed said too narrow really.
That's an oxymoron though. 442 is probably the least fluid and interchangeable formations we could use.
442 is dead. Long live 4231!

Honestly mate it's not. You just have players changing their positions within it, this maintains the width but keeps the defenders guessing as well.
Anyways formations are pretty much bollocks, the way that we play nowdays whether you call it 442 or 4231, when we're taking the piss out of teams you know as well as I do it might as well be called 424
Ah missed it. I'll have a look, I remember Berbs and Rooney being quite close, but it was early.

Rooney 41 goals. 28 assists.

Ronaldo 65 goals. 28 assists.

Berbatov 49 goals. 29 assists.
Sky must have only been doing Prem goals then
I still think it's a useful distinction. In your case 4231 suggests that the CMs will play deep (and Scholes won't get as many goals as he used to) and that the wingers will play narrow (and not go down the flank behind the fullback as often as they used to).Anyways formations are pretty much bollocks, the way that we play nowdays whether you call it 442 or 4231, when we're taking the piss out of teams you know as well as I do it might as well be called 424

For all those who have been doubting Berbatov's quality.
Or we might see Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez, swapping positions for fun, just behind Berbatov (my personal preference)
Mine also.
Trulystuff.

SAF has never got it wrong with the big signing though, and i unclude veron it that statement.
Got the amount of starts each made during those two years in the premiership? I'd imagine Rooney has started a fair few less games due to injury.

Its usually Ronaldo, Anderson and Nani swapping positions, just behind a blonde prostitute.
Rooney 58. Berbatov 63. Not a huge difference.
Not huge no, but enough to bring the stats into perspective when you consider a lot of people consider Rooney to have had a "bad" season last year. I personally dont and I consider Berbatov to have had a good year too.

Rooney 89. Berbatov 87. Starts in all competitions.
Compare it to the goals and assists. May bring it a little more into perspective.
Apparently we've made a £25 mil offer, but i like to talk out of my arse, the sound of it is quite harmonising.
Is it? Well, make a youtube video and let us caftards judge.![]()

So both have had 2 good years. As I said.
The second paragraph is daft, Rooney can move to the flanks playing behind the lead striker in a 442, or he could drop into central midfield, or push right up and try and run onto flick ons, the position gives him more options then any in a 451Like I said, I'm not sure. We might see Rooney playing on either side of Berbs, as part of a front three. Or we might see Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez, swapping positions for fun, just behind Berbatov (my personal preference)
Rooney is clearly being developed into a total footballer, equally at home in any of the positions in the final third and, interestingly enough, some of his best work last season came from out wide (the cross to Wes Brown, which kick-started our annihilation of Liverpool being a good example of this) As you well know (having argued about this a lot last season) I firmly believe that the whole "Rooney should play behind a lead striker, in a 442" theory is a good few years out of date.
