Cavani's missed chances vs Metz & let's talk about di maria too

As everyone has pointed out - he makes great runs and gets into great positions, but from there he doesn't seem to be able to keep his composure.

You would've thought the goal after 45 secs would have brought a bit of confidence back even after his Metz showing in the OP - Two matches on the trot with so many misses - he's got to be rested & sent to the under 21s for a month or two :D
Its obvious the bloke tries but it's like the Falcao fiasco here although Falcao seemed a more likeable character

Ospina misses the ball by a mile and slams into Cavani. As clear a pen as it gets.
No he doesn't, but I'll put that down to you being misled by the replay in the post you quoted. You can see the ball moving direction in the normal angle anyway...

I watched the game live and Ospina gets the all of the ball, not even close to being a penalty.

There's no point in having great movement if you just squander the chances. A good striker for PSG tonight would have got a hat-trick.

I think that's pretty harsh. He did score. His finishing isn't good enough for an elite team but his movement is far from shite and right up there as one of the best.

This. What has happened to him? Did Zlatan actually ruined him like everyone keeps saying?

I remember when Falcao was here and people would keep saying his movement was great so it's only a matter of time he'll hit form - when actually he rarely got a sniff at goal due to his complete lack of mobility.

Cavani is an example of someone with great movement hence he gets many chances. Has little composure though.

It's unfair to compare Cavani with Falcao.
Falcao is a League 1 level striker (so, we have EPL, Championship, League 1).
He can't stay on his feet for long enough to score a goal. Absolutely woeful. I can't explain just how bad Falcao was/is.
It took LVG about half a season to work out that Falcao was terrible. It took Jose 1 pre-season to work the same thing out. If I were his employer, I'd take him to court to refund a percentage of his wages...he's that bad.
He is masquerading as a pro footballer. And lets not forget that he is the most blatant mercenary I have ever seen in all my years watching football. He will literally play for any team in any country, which pay the highest wage.
He has no loyalty to any club. Just pay him a big wage and he will join you....and score zero or few goals.
If I had to bet money on who would score more goals: a 16 year old boy or Falcao, I'd bet on the 16 year old.
Rant over....

With Cavani, he is clearly strong and powerful. But his composure in front of goal is repeatedly letting him down. Will he get better? Not sure. Ibra is now gone and perhaps the pressure now on Cavani is too much for him to handle. Only time will tell.

Yes, post-injury Falcao was a joke. And Mou had the benefit of seeing him for that shambolic season with United but still chose to sign hum btw. But your post is like he didn't exist before that...

Agree with others. His movement is superb.

He's definitely hit a mental block or something.

Like Forlan at Utd. Great movement, worked hard and got chances but didn't score or convert enough of them. Then it clicked and he was absolutely lethal for 4-5 years straight in Spain.

A bit like Torres at Chelsea and how he's discovered his 'knack' again at Atletico.

Footballer in mercenary shock, who'd have thought it.

You seem to forget he was one of the world's best 9's prior to the dreadful injury though.

Not as if he asked for his career to be ruined, also when he went to Monaco they had Moutinho /James and him so there was a "live" project on the table coupled with a beautiful place to live.

And still people will praise him and some here would pay 60m for him. He is one of those players like Kane who will be judged their whole live based one or two good seasons and their fans will ignore how shit they played most of the time. He is shit. I would take Ighalo, Troy deeney, and Vardy over Cavani anyday.

On Di maria. Not everthing is LVG's fault. Some of you will eventually blame LVG for his house being broken into.Yeah, even Martial's problems with his wife, it was LVG. Felaini and Jones dying their hair, that was LVG. The bird shitting on young, LVG. I even saw someone blame our loss to city on LVG!!! apparently the players have not gotten over LVG's football !Really? C'mon stop it now. Di maria was always inconsistent and he didint like being here.

Well if he gets a lot chances because his movement is good and he is smart, then there is the answer for all the misses then.

Of course, his finishing is not the best so he will be missing half of chances he gets and since he gets a lot of chances for himself, we would see a lot of his misses too. Basically, it evens out and statically he is still a good goal scorer.

Forlan was scoring consistently for Utd for a brief period in which Van Nistelrooy was absent (he was injured I think). Him going back to the bench killed his flow.

LvG played some boring football so he is a cnut, idiot, dumb, stupid, fat, ugly, and in general the devil and should feck off and never show his face again according to this forum.

You are probably the only person who would but good luck to you. Troy Deeney over Cavani? Ooooooooooook.

He has this problem that he thinks he is waaay better than he actually is. He is a decent striker if he could live with that, but whenever I watch him he looks like he is trying to show everyone how passionate he is about his game that makes him embarass himself every time he is in front of goal, if he could just stay more calm and act like a normal person I am sure he would score more goals, but no, he has to try something ridiculous like that failed overhead kick last night instead of trying to control the ball properly like majority of players would do.

I agree with everything you said, but let's not forget that Falcao pre-injury at Monaco was a force of nature. Best striker in the world, easily, so it's somewhat understandable that a couple of managers were willing to give him a chance or two too many.

Cavani has never been at that level. All that's missing from both the Metz and Arsenal highlights is the Benny Hill theme!

Take a poll. I am sure coaches like pep will take deeney over cavani

I would doubt that quite a lot. If that was the case then why is Deeney not playing for one of the premier european clubs and how is Cavani? Also, take a look at their goal scoring records.

Are you talking about the chance where he tried to chest the ball ? Cause that is what he attempted, he just failed controlling the ball

The thing is, he gets into goal scoring positions regularly and has a really creative team behind him. He'll have a purple patch soon enough and end the season with around 30 goals.

Now he is because of his injuries. In his prime he was one of the very best strikers in world football.

Laughable how people are judging a player like Cavani after watching one game where he scored but missed several chances. Then you get people here claiming Troy Deeney is a better player on the back of it. Quite crazy.

I think most people are judging him on more than just one game - his inability to finish and his wastefulness are becoming quite common for PSG over the past couple of years actually. Do you watch him often?

Am I reading this correctly, somebody actually suggested that Troy Deeney is better than Cavani? It's true the man needs 72 chances to score but at least he is able to consistently get into those positions. Deeney would be circling the pitch like a campfire if it was him playing last night.

Ive seen enough of him to know that he is a higher quality player than Troy Deeney (plus his record proves it). He is a good striker but yes he can be wasteful and is not in the top tier bracket of strikers, still good enough for the likes of PSG though.

A club with CL Aspirations?

No, he's not.

That's a bit disrespectful to moneybags PSG. No matter how they got their wealth.

They've consistently been one of the top 5-6 clubs in Europe for a good few years now. And just had a striker, the calibre of Zlatan, leading their line.

If you meant he'll be good enough for them to win Ligue 1, then yeah, sure. They have enough quality elsewhere to compensate. But with their recent UCL record, I'd think PSG's aspirations would be to try and win the UCL. And for that, they'd need better than him upfront.
