Just keeping it for this lad.

He's 17 now. I hope we already have a deal in place for when he's gathered a few years experience at Ajax.
I think if he has inherited any talent, we have the right men in place to help him become a top notch keeper.

Anyone else think Real are not really that hot on him anymore? I doubt a firm bid has even been placed and that Kiko Casilla guy appears to be doing really well in the friendlies so far. I don't think Benitez really wants De Gea but even if that probably doesn't matter when it comes to Real's transfers, I wouldn't be surprised if their interest dies down and he signs a new deal somewhere into the season.

Got that vibe too. Especially since benitez cant lie for sh*t.

What's even funnier are the rumours coming out this morning (not new just gaining a head of steam) that LvG is seriously thinking of standing him down for Romero. If he loses the no.1 spot (and therefore regular competitive games), because his head is not in it, he'd have a hard time justifying being picked for the national team and then Real's interest in him could disappear completely before next season comes around.

Looks like Romero's in charge already:

He's certainly got a commanding presence, not to mention more than a bit of the Falcao about him too (post haircut Falcao btw)

I reaslise that some of you think DDG will be benched - but as LVG has repeatedly stated in his interviews: if a player is performing well, that player will play.
Simple as that.
We know for a fact that DDG is our best GK. He has been our best player for the last 2 years.
Unless LVG has gone completely mad (or there something going on behind the scenes), he won't drop him.

they prefer to put their efforts into the big money forwards, who sell shirts and posters. DDG prob isn't that much of a priority to splash the cash

De Gea will start on Saturday - probably his farewell OT appearance too.

Yeah...this as said in the game when he got injured and went off.
The same was said in every pre-season game.
Now, the same is being said about our first EPL game.

I think it really is 50-50, as to whether he will stay for this season...or not.

his missus has been mouthing off in the press again
It's such a shame that stuff like this is leaking before the Spurs game on Saturday. We have enough distractions off the pitch with Di Maria. I respect David De Gea as a professional and I won't say a bad word about him. He's probably the most talented keeper we have ever had. He has not made this saga in to a circus. He wants a move back to his home, where is family are from and his lady. He's not said anything publicly to the press or handed in a transfer request. He's been a pro and seems a good guy, it's very annoying of the timing of his cnut girlfriends comments. It only adds pressure to what the crowds reception to De Gea will be on Saturday. Man United are playing hardball with Madrid, De Gea is in the middle. This deal will be done sooner or later, it's annoying to put more pressure on Dave than needs to be. The fact is he's still a united player and we need a result on Saturday and need to get behind him. We need or best team on and everyone focused on getting the result. It's fair to say that I don't like his girlfriend, I doubt I'm the only one in here.

I think we should take a stand and not sell him this window, for any price. We should sit him down and explain that we will let him go for free at the end of the season, but have decided that due to Real's unwillingness to negotiate, that we have already included him in this seasons plans.

And before anyone starts with the "keeping unhappy players thing" at the club, this guys are professionals and will behave as such.Just a few examples of players that wanted to leave their clubs and were forced to stay

Luis Suarez: Denied a move to Arsenal, he turns around to have the greatest season arguably by any Liverpool player in EPL history.

Modric: After Spurs reject Chelsea's 40 mil bid and he being evidently unhappy, goes on to have a great season culminating in him getting a move to Real.

Scneiderlin : After Southhampton refused to sell him to Spurs, he goes on to have a great season there getting Southampton back into Europe.

I am sure they are many others. He's got Euro2016 next year, and will want to prove a point.

Fully agree. He'll have to wait now and we'd be beyond stupid selling him with the season days away from kicking off.

Likewise teams with keepers we've been linked with would surely feel the same about their #1's too.

Take the loss on the fee and get the scouts to do their job this season.

Can see a deadline day bonanza going on with De Gea and Ramos swapping round (with £££ going to madrid) and then Lloris coming to us for £20mill or so. Madrid will eventually cave in? Either that or Navas will be loaned to us for the season - not that id like it. Ideally i wanted Cech.

I think benching de gea for a couple of games would freak him out, i don't think he minds finishing his contract here, but the prospect of spending most of the year on the bench must be terrifying, which should force real to up their offer.

No, I'll judge him on what I've seen over the last two tournaments he played for Argentina and the fact he couldn't get a start for Monaco or Fiorentina over the last 2 seasons. Him suddenly wearing a United shirt doesn't change anything.
First of all its not Fiorentina its Sampdoria. Second, devilish explained 2 times at least why he didnt play at Sampdoria and then Monaco. Do some research before you post.

the press are going to tedious lengths now. the vague threats he'd "down tools", the girlfriend stories. all very tedious.

hopefully he keeps his performances high though. for all Ronaldo's sulks, he was still terrific in his last season

I don't care which club it was or the excuses, the fact is he wasn't good enough to get a game as starter for any of those teams because he's a mediocre keeper at best and should be nowhere near a United #1 spot.

Yea benching him for this mediocre garbage

I wonder if we are even looking for a new GK. If we are, i hope it is Leno. Young, talented and probably not too expensive

Personally wouldnt pick him if the lad is not commited to the cause, then why should he be first choice put somone in who wants to prove themself and wants to stay there.

No, that's not the fact. As I said do some research.

I don't need research other than watching him play to know he's mediocre on his best day, but please, explain the reason he was #2 at both those clubs, he wasn't injured for both seasons as he played the International tournaments.

Agree. GKs need to have absolute concentration, too important a position to play someone who is physically or mentally not up for it. That does not take away from the fact he is a brilliant GK and has done well for us.

Yet you only saw him few times for Argentina right?

as for those 2 clubs, do you own research before posting. For instance he was nr. 1 for Sampdoria (and it wasnt he wasnt good enough to be a starter as you say) and was dropped after cause he didnt want to take a pay cut and Sampdoria has some crazy owner.
He was in Monaco just one year and there was some problem with his salary.

15 times for Argentina, more than enough to know how good he is, and those are both excuses as I said, he was not injured, his excuse for not playing is that he's greedy? Or is everyone but him in the wrong in both situations where he seems to be holding up for money? Basically he's a bang average keeper that we got lumbered with because LvG hired one of his old players that no other top club would have even looked at, it's Kraft vs Neuer all over again.

Also as far as doing my research goes, you came at me acting like there was some big reason like injury or a family situation, I was expecting you to have something substantial that I wasn't aware of, not just that he's a mercenary which I already knew and said were crap excuses for being a perennial #2.

Hopefully he will break up with his girlfriend sometime this season so the lure of Madrid might be less strong (I would still expect him to go though).

Do we really think she is the reason? I'd say it's 1 because it's his home town and 2 because with Madrid they are a far better team and 3 his prospects with Spain are cemented if he does well for Madrid. As much as we blame his girlfriend it's really a no brainer for DDG and because we left his contract to late he's been in control and steered it to this conclusion.

I'd say she is part of it, but as you said she wouldn't be the main reason. I think he'd genuinely rather play for Madrid than us, regardless of his girlfriend.

FFS, the thought of losing one of the world's best players in their position, not even in their prime yet, for free, fecking irks me, no end

I'm not blaming anyone. It just fecking irks me.
