Douglas Costa

What I've been most impressed with apart from his stellar play is his attitude. When he played against us, he seemed like a proper bastard trying to have a "who's the bigger cnut" contest with Ribery. There's just absolutely nothing of the sort now. He seems to be super professional, doesn't dive, doesn't get into arguments and just goes on with his job.

That's one contest he is never going to win.

Just how many players from Shakhtar have moved in to a bigger club and succeeded? There's Costa, Willian (visited Anzhi), Fernandinho, Mkhitaryan. Should we learn our lesson and take a punt for Alex Teixeira or what?

Fecking hell, I wish I could play with worldclass players for one time just to experience their talent in real life with my own eyes. I catch myself thinking while watching a game on TV that with a lot of training I could pull off what they do but it's nonsense anyway. Once you see it in real life you realise that they are a 100 times more talented than you are.

Same, pal. Same.
I'd pay good money to join in (and make a fool of myself :D)

Thiago is just

So, Douglas Costa is the least talented out of them in terms of technique/touch?

I am slightly surprised by Lewandowski from the clip there. Insane.

You can actually tell Lewa has incredible technique when you see him in a game, the guy is just pure class

Are there ever similarly laid-back training sessions released for our lot?

I can't imagine a lot of our players actually being able to do that sort of stuff, to be honest.

True enough, but it would be nice to see a little something between Mata, Herrera and Pereira some time.

For some reason I have seen many players doing amazing stuffs on training, whereas most of them can't do the same on the football field under pressure situation. If you look around the internet, you will find many other similar stuffs, and yet in real match they just can't pull it off.

Not just pressure, high risk too. Sometimes you dont have to do something fancy and more difficult to pull off when an easy dribble or one-two is enough.

I'm pretty sure I saw a clip of Sakho doing around the worlds and showing a nifty feet on the ball.

It makes me wonder how 'good' someone like Phil Neville was and was he just a great athlete with great mentality but ultimately was extremely lucky with club and manager.

Scrap that, I know he was lucky. Not underplaying everything he had, achieved or worked towards, just you know.

Well, of course. That's why you almost never see streetball style trickery in professional games. Risk and reward are in no correlation. Still, you always have to keep in mind that even the most wooden CB in a professional league is a highly talented football player that could dribble the socks off most amateurs and run rings past them. Just goes to show how high the level of professionals is.

Yeah I think people often greatly underestimate the skill of professional footballers.

Yeah it's amazing. I actually once played against one of the players from my home town club when they were still like in the 4th highest league and this guy wasn't even a starter for them than, he still was by far the best player on the pitch and that while usually being a defensive midfielder for his club. That pretty much put it into a totally new perspective for me how good you would have to be to play in the highest league or let alone in a top team like Bayern. It's also not only that they are physically ahead of you but, like you said, even the most wooden CB is far better on a technical level than your average pub-team footballer.

I still cannot fathom why he stayed at Shakhtar for so long.

4 goals and 14 assists I read within half a year, outrageous.

More like a quarter.

It really is funny how we tried for more than a decade to sign the next big thing out of South America (Santa Cruz, dos Santos, Breno, Guerrero) and failed more or less miserably.
Now we have got ourselves a 24 year old, medium priced Brazilian winger out of the Ukraine and he really looks like the shit. Amazing

Shakhtar's scouting in Brazil is fantastic, they have a few more excellent Brazilians in their squad, that could possibly play at a same level as Costa if given the chance.

Until now I think that clubs were not particularly interested in the Shakhtar players because they are expensive and they have only proven themselves in Ukraine, but now with Costa doing great, I expect a lot more offers in the winter and summer. For example, Alex Teixeira has like 20 goals in 15 games for them this season and he's not even a striker.

Fernandinho and Willian are doing well in the PL. Mkhitaryan has been great for Dortmund this season after a slow start to his Dortmund-career.

How is that surprising? Bayern have always done exceptionally well buying South Americans from within Europe (Jorginho, Sergio, Elber, Ze Roberto, Lucio, Pizarro, Dante, Gustavo, Rafinha, Vidal, Costa).

It´s only when they try direct imports that they fail miserably. The best one probably being Demichelis. Eventually they just gave up and hired the Leverkusen head scout.

All of the aforementioned were well established players in Germany, none of them became world stars (=/= world class) for Bayern. Costa could archieve that.

The problems with the South American players is often that they might have flair - but they do have problems to adapt to weather, language and discipline. Because of that it is easier to adapt to countries like Spain or Italy. Lucescu, the coach of Shaktar, is somebody who rates especially discipline very high. A player that performs well at Shaktar and does not leave early again for South America proved that he can handle the conditions that are asked for in teams like e.g. in a country like Germany.

It looks like he finally found his best form for Brazil last night:

Scored the 1-0:

His freekick hit the post:

Amazing assist for the 2-0:

His shot kinda assisted the 3-0:

From what I've read he was amazing throughout and did even more brilliant things, anyone watched the game? I've only seen highlights this morning. I'm so so happy that he's playing for us :D.

Great talent. Fantastic 1 on 1 player and he plays like a main man. Demands the ball and wants to make things happen even a Bayern in a team full of top players. Would have been a great signing.
