Fabinho

It's all a bit vague but it's a start, Fabinho would be the 2nd best option around for the holding midfield role.

Meh. We've played half the season without a 'holder' and have been fine. True midfield balance like that is only really necessary at the very highest level, and we're not quite competing there yet.

We aren't but we should be preparing for it and not spending huge sums on players that would then need changing once we got into the CL mix, the best European sides use a dedicated holding midfield player and Fabinho is exactly that, he rarely leaves his post in front of the back 4.

Fabinho, Herrera and Pogba would be an ideal midfield, make it happen!

Fabinho would be a great signing, finally some proper defensive nous in midfield, without the need to throw headbutts.

He could also play next to Pogba and Herrera in a midfield two and more importantly can cover for Valencia at right-back.

Mbappe - Martial
???? - Pogba - Fabinho - Mkhitaryan

Mata on the right and Mkhitaryan on the left, and in tougher games, Herrera joining Pogba and Fabinho, Martial on the left and Mkhitaryan on the right. Simple enough. Maybe Rashford beats out Martial.

So keep paddling in 5th? Midfield balance or lack of is exactly why we are in this mess!

I hope that was sarcasm otherwise this is the most baffling post I've read in awhile

Mourinho said months ago that the Pogba record would be broken this summer. It must have been a hint that he is going to sign Mbappe for £100m+...it makes sense...follow the money
It makes no sense as mbappe wasn't worth anything like that until his champions league exploits.
Smells of griezmen for me

Since when has central midfield been an issue this season? Last I checked our main gripe was scoring goals and finishing chances.
Who are the midfielders who are atleast above average? Pog Ander Carrick, all 3 play together so some back up and rotation would be good.
Next season it'll just be Pog and Ander unless someone is brought in, would you really want to start a season with just 2 capable CMs?

Great news. Fabinho would definitely be quality in the DM role for us, a modern day Gilberto Silva.

Easily a must buy. I just checked and he is only 23 years old. 23! Get. It. Done.

I would take Fabinho over Nainggolan in a second. Young and very versatile, he'd be brilliant in the mid 3 as the most defensive yet very creative player. Although our defensive side wasn't that bad lately, he'd add a lot to that.

He would be the missing part of the midfield in my opinion. Fabinho adding the defensive stability, Herrera rampaging around the pitch contributing in attack and defense, freeing up Pogba to be more involved in attack, both creating from deep and having more freedom to join in further forward without having to worry about the team being vulnerable.

FourFourTwo meets Monaco's main men: "My objective is to get to a club like Man United - but I don't know if it will happen"

Fabinho signed a new contract recently, running until 2021, but he’s keen to play in the Premier League one day.

“My objective is to get to a club with the dimension of Manchester United – I have no clue if one day I’ll be a United player, but I’ll keep on working so it stops being a rumour and becomes reality,” he explains.

“I’ve spoken to David Luiz and Filipe Luis about their experience in the Premier League. Filipe told me that it’s a high intensity league, in every match. Maybe in other leagues you can rest in some weeks, but not in England. That’s a league where I want to play. Every match is sold out. Football in England is physical, but here in France it’s the same so I wouldn’t have problems adapting.”

Fabinho/Pogba/Herrera would be fantastic in a midfield 3.

Sign Fabinho and Nainggolan, gives us more chance of Mourinho letting go of Fellaini and Carrick moving on. Nainggolan especially would really help the energy levels in midfield, but with Mourinho's misuse of Schneiderlin and our middling play this season I don't have the confidence that the midfield would suddenly be sorted.

Saying that I'd be absolutely delighted with Fabinho, even if it was our only midfield signing. The main problems are clearly up front and there's only so much a midfield can do to win matches, especially against weaker teams that we are so shite at breaking down this season.

Didn't we try to sign this guy as a RB a couple of years back?

Is he doing great in midfield? I thought Bakayoko is Monaco's stand out midfielder?

He's been immense in midfield and no, Fabinho is their standout midfielder. Bakayoko is still very good though.

TBF a lot of defensive minded midfielders can do a job in defence.
Yeah, they can but not many can make the transition with the same success as Kompany. He actually went from being a decent DM to a world class CB. Fabinho, from the little I've seen seems like he could do the same. I don't know exactly why I think that, it's just a hunch, tbh.

Finally the type we need. Proper holding midfielder who is good on the ball and intelligent. Hopefully it happens. Then get someone who is quality playing on the right (bernardo silva), a striker (belotti), fix up the defence (random left back, varane for cb) and we would be set.

Fabinho has been rumoured for months and months now. It's one of those signings that you just expect to be announced because of the coverage.

Hopefully it ends up like Pogba and not Vidal.

Silly season in full swing. He can play right back too I believe? Two birds one stone.

He's like a mobile Carrick with a cracking shot. We have to sign this guy.

To be fair to Carrick, he displayed more of that 'mobility' at West Ham and Spurs. His role at United was never as..err...dynamic?

Also, his stature and gait actually made me think more of Vieira than Carrick. I wonder how much of that is due to the Red/White colors of Monaco.

Something about the way Fabinho plays makes me think he'll end up as a CB, the way Kompany did for city.

I think he 'could' play there in the same way it was said about Pogba. But he is looking too exquisite in the middle.

Oh finally:drool: We HAVE TO buy a holding midfielder and Fabinho is a great one. Of course the dream signing is Verratti but that won`t happen.
